January Supply Clergy Chosen The Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner has disclosed the following schedule of preachers and celebrants for the coming month. January 3 - The Vy. Rev. John Payne, preacher and celebrant January 10 - The Rev.

Sam Hulsey will preach and celebrate on either January 17 or January 31, and the Rev. John Payne will fill in the Sunday that Bishop Hulsey doesn t serve. The Vy. Rev. John Payne was rector at All Saints for 34+ years and served as supply priest for St.

The honor was part of the 60 th anniversary of the founding of All Saints parish. Upon his retirement from All Saints, the vestry accorded him the rector emeritus title. The Rev.

In 2011 he was designated as dean emeritus of the Northern Deanery of the Diocese of Fort Worth. The honor was part of the 60 th anniversary of the founding of All Saints parish. Upon his retirement from All Saints, the vestry accorded him the rector emeritus title. The Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner in 2014 was named Canon to the Ordinary for the Diocese of Fort Worth. She is a priest from the Diocese of Oregon and received her MDiv from Yale Divinity School. She will moderate the yearly review of agreement between St. Stephen s and All Saints on two Sundays in January. The Rt. Rev. Sam Hulsey, retired bishop of the Diocese of Northwest Texas, has been a frequent Circuit Rider supply priest for All Saints during the long years of painful exile and litigation. He became in the long wait, the encouraging father figure and beloved mentor. 2

3 Second Sunday after Christmas Day Year C Revised Common Lectionary Jan. 3, st Lesson- Old Testament Psalm 2nd Lesson Gospel Jeremiah 31: 7-14 Psalm 84 Ephesians 1:3-6, 15-19a Matthew 2:13-15, Gospel Reflection In his book The Birth of the Messiah, Raymond brown holds that the story of the Magi is a mixture of legend, history, and symbolism fused into one of the Bible s most beloved tales. This lovely story has the capability of stirring up the imagination and increasing our capacity for joy. However, let us not forget that no sooner had the Magi left their gifts in the straw than an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to flee to Egypt with his family. Herod was about to start killing the boy babies of Bethlehem and Jesus must not be one of them. Here is a lesson about how quickly things can change in life, even for the holiest of families. The holy family became refugees. Suddenly the Christmas lights dim and danger lurks in the shadows. The journey of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus from Bethlehem to Egypt and then to Nazareth in Galilee reminds us that the journey of faith is always moving to an uncertain future confident that the final word will be one of light shining in the darkness. Jesus escaped Herod s madness and lived, while the boy babies of Bethlehem were killed in his place. However, as a grown man, Jesus returned the favor of the Holy Innocents by allowing his own innocent blood to be spilled so that others might be saved not just Jews or Christians but all human kind until the end of time. Tony Hiatt Little white church on Church Street Our very first Christmas Eve service was a huge success ending with everyone holding lit candles and singing "Silent Night." We had 28 people celebrate the Messiah's birthday with us and our voices must have been heard in Heaven! Fr. Tony's sermon placed each of us in a different character's perspective which ended at the glorious night in Bethlehem...from Mary's visitation by Gabriel, to the shepherds' amazement of the light, to the inn keeper's point of view, and being with Mary and Joseph as they traveled to the stable where Mary gave birth. How through it all, the angels made certain that there was nothing to fear and that the Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace was coming. This past year--actually really since March--we have diligently followed the light as Christ has led the way to where we are now. 5

We continue to reach out to the community with our Mission of the Month. The Mission for December was for school supplies for Boyd Elementary School and was led by Lydia Hiatt.

Lanny Maeyers of Decatur has been fixed by a gentleman from Wichita Falls and sounded beautiful as Sarah Walker played for our Christmas Eve service.

We do have some exciting news: the organ which was donated by Ms. Lanny Maeyers of Decatur has been fixed by a gentleman from Wichita Falls and sounded beautiful as Sarah Walker played for our Christmas Eve service. One of our parishioners was kind enough to cover the cost of the repair; we are truly grateful and give much thanks!
