3 To all my sons and daughters in Christ, Praise the good God for all the wonderful things that have been going on with the Gather in Unity building project. This past week the pews arrived, the entrance plaza pavers were laid and the altar and pulpit were assembled. I also hope that you find the landscaping beautiful. Our new church is going to be such a welcoming and prayerful place in this community. In order to make this parish a welcoming place we need the help of many. Sacrament of Matrimony Arrangements must be made with the Parish Priest six (6) months prior to anticipated date of wedding. Care of the Sick Communion will be brought to the homebound and the sick who are confined to their homes each week. 6 MISSION POSSIBLE?? THE LORD BE WITH YOU Many Catholics are so familiar with this line from the Mass that they may not appreciate the full force of what these words really mean. This not just a pious greeting or a religious way of saying, Welcome! This is not simply a cue for the laity to respond, And also with you. From a biblical perspective, these words represent a divine summons, an invitation to a daunting undertaking. If we were ancient Jews who understood what the words, The Lord be with you, really meant, we probably would be trembling in fear and awe every time we heard these words spoken at Mass. Throughout the Scriptures, when God calls someone to an important role in His plan of salvation, He gives assurance that He will be with that person. For example, when Moses was called to confront the Pharaoh and lead the people out of slavery in Egypt, he was afraid, felt unsure of his own ability, and tried to persuade God to choose someone else for the job. However, God insisted on Moses mission and told him, I will be with you (Ex. 3:12). Similarly, when God commissioned Joshua to lead the people into the Promised Land, He said to him, As I was with Moses, so I will be with you (Josh 1:5). When God called Gideon to defend the Israelites from their powerful foreign enemies, the angel told him, The LORD is with you (Judg. 6:12). When God called the young Virgin Mary to serve in the extraordinary role of being the mother of Israel s messiah, Gabriel said to her, The Lord is with you (Lk. 1:28). When Jesus commissioned the apostles to evangelize the whole world, he said, I am with you always, to the close of age (Mat. 28:20). Throughout salvation history, these sacred words, the Lord is with you, are spoken when God calls people to difficult missions which stretch them beyond their comfort zones. They are pushed to the point that they can no longer rely on their own talents, strengths and abilities, and as a result, they begin to realize, at a more profound level, how much they really need God. It is then that the Lord says He will give them the one thing they will need the most: His presence with them through their many trials and sacrifices. These same biblical words are repeated to us throughout the Mass. Whenever we hear, The Lord be with you, we should be reminded that we, too, are called to an important mission. Like Moses, Mary and the apostles, we as Christians are called to serve in God s plan of salvation, bringing the Gospel to the world around us. Such a task will not be easy. Whether as citizens trying to transform our country for Christ, lay people desiring to bring Christian values into the workplace, parents trying to raise Godly children, or married people striving to love their spouses with patient, forgiving, selfless love, we at times may feel inadequate, overwhelmed, or not gifted enough to carry out our vocation as well as we would like. Throughout Mass, however, we are reminded that we do not face the challenges of our mission alone. We are repeatedly reminded of the one thing that will help us fulfill our vocation the most, the Lord is with us. PAINTERS NEEDED!! We are in the process of painting the classrooms. Some of these rooms have not been painted in over 17 years. We supply the paint, brushes and whatever else is needed. We just need painters!
