3 To all my sons and daughters in Christ! Let s get ready for LENT! Does it seem too early? By no means! Indeed, for many centuries, this Sunday was called Septuagesima Sunday and it began a sort of pre-lent when Christians would start to think and pray about how to keep a good Lent. So, I will encourage you. The observance of Lent is the very badge of Christian warfare. By it we prove ourselves to be lovers of the Cross of Christ. By it we avert the scourges of Divine Justice. By it we gain strength against the princes of darkness, for it shields us with heavenly help. Should mankind grow remiss in their observance of Lent, it would be a detriment to God s glory, a disgrace to the Catholic religion and a danger to Christian souls. Neither can it be doubted that such negligence would become the source of misery to the world, of public calamity, and of private woe. SECOND COLLECTION FOR OUR SISTER PARISH HAITI THIS WEEKEND For the 20,000 plus people who reside in our sister parish area, their plight is through no fault of their own, but merely a result of where they were born. From their place of need, their humble souls are gracious and kind. Possibly God uses these beautiful souls in Haiti to show the rest of the world where love and grace really begins, in our hearts. Let us always remember the people of sister parish in our prayers and continue to bless them with our gifts as we are able. In the Gospel today, we read that because Jesus spoke with authority his reputation spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee. As his disciples, we can also speak with authority when we put our faith into actions by helping the poor and suffering. As Vincentians, we put our faith into action by helping the poor and the suffering. Face to face, in the home visit, Vincentians learn reverence for the poor. Indeed, the poor of God have a mysterious effect upon us. We invite you to share in the spirituality of service to the poor. A class may be required prior to baptism. Sacrament of Matrimony - Arrangements must be made with the Parish Priest six (6) months prior to anticipated date of wedding. Care of the Sick - Communion will be brought to the homebound and the sick who are confined to their homes each week. For new additions to the Communion List, please call the Parish Office by Wednesday noon. Sacrament of the Sick - Will be administered to all of those seriously ill, those about to have major surgery, and any of the elderly of the Parish requesting it. Call the Parish Office to arrange. Parish Registration - New parishioners are welcome and are asked to register at the Parish Office, or download the form on our website to complete. Reconciliation - Confessions are heard every Saturday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., thirty minutes prior to each Mass on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and Sunday.

The week of June 11-15, a group of high school missionaries from our own Diocese are coming to Saint Cecilia to serve our community. We are looking for neighbors who might need help around the house (anyone can be served, not just from our parish).
