3 Dearest Friends of Saint Cecilia s Parish, Oh, what a summer it has been! Where has the summer gone it seemed like only yesterday I received news that I would enjoy a third summer in a row with all of you. Full of gratitude for the opportunity to spend the past two summers with you and share in the joy of the completion of the new church, my cup runneth over in thanksgiving to share my first summer of priesthood with the parish family that has watched and accompanied me in my vocational journey. Thank you so very much again for all your prayers as ordination approached and a special thanks to those that made the trip to Madison for my big weekend this summer. I was overwhelmed to see so many of you in attendance and even more so to make the trip 36 hours later for my First Mass of Thanksgiving. Thank you so much for your love and support and I will never forget your generosity. As I mentioned, this summer has been full of many experiences and what a blessing the Lord has bestowed that I would spend my first summer saying Mass in the beautiful new church. It has been a great blessing to reconcile many with the Father through the mercy poured out in Confession, and the privilege of offering Holy Mass that all might be transformed by receiving Our Lord s Body and Blood. I have found consolation in spending time with a number of individuals that have come by this summer to talk about God and know how they can learn more about Him and love Him more. Most of my summer consisted of simply learning how to be a priest, live the daily rule of priesthood, and learn as much as I can about administering the sacraments and being Christ for those whom I encounter. For all of this, I extend my deepest thanks to Fr. Eric for all he has done for me the past three summers. This isn t mere lip-service, but honest and sincere gratitude for the opportunity to learn from one of the best pastors I know; my priesthood has benefited immensely from my time spent with Fr. Eric. Saint Cecilia s is truly blessed to have such a man that desires for all to come to a deeper knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. To all the staff and committees at Saint Cecilia s, thank you all for your generous friendship and the many joyful times we shared. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you over the past three years and thank you for inviting me into your lives. I have enjoyed walking with you and it is my hope that I have done my best to aid the pastor and all of you to grow closer to Jesus Christ and His beautiful bride, the Church. Some of my greatest joys of this summer have been hearing the reactions to many regarding the new church. I have had numerous individuals approach me with tears in their eyes as they try to describe with words how the beauty has moved them (more men than women even!). Such beauty moves souls to seek out and love God. Yet we know that the church is a sign in this world of The Church the Body of Christ for which we are all members. The beauty of the Christian life is that we are all living stones, always being refined and beautified. This holiness and beautification comes about as we more clearly see God s plan for our lives (vocation) and our loving pursuit of such. He has a plan for each and every one of you! Your time in prayer, adoration, fidelity to the sacraments, and Christian witness in your everyday lives will continue to bring glory to Him and sanctify the world around you. Let Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your lives not be merely an end to Mass, but the flame that drives you to set the world on fire with love for God and His Church. My desire is that you would show the community, the greater surrounding area, and all you encounter the same overwhelming love that you showed me the past three summers. By this you will find joy and peace in living the life of holiness, while continuing to build up the Body of Christ. Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all the rest will be given to you. I return to Rome on the 24 th of for my final year of studies in the Eternal City. This will be a big year for me, as I will write my Final Thesis Paper to complete my License in Liturgical Theology. I kindly ask for your continued prayers as everything comes together in the coming months. Again, thank you all so very much for your friendship and generosity. Saint Cecilia s has truly been a wonderful experience in my journey to priesthood. I am deeply grateful to know each and every one of you and you have become like a second family to me. Know of my constant thoughts and prayers for all of you and I look forward to seeing you again as Providence provides! God Love You and I Love You! In Christo per Mariam, FATHER Andrew J. Showers
