3 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord St. Cecilia s Church April 5, 2015 Dear Friends, A Message From Our Pastor. Happy Easter. We may not be wearing our Easter bonnets today, but it is Easter. We have just recaptured our title as the snowiest part of the United States from Syracuse, NY with the last batch of snow last weekend. It is a dubious honor. We keep telling ourselves that eventually this winter will end. Already two weeks into spring, the snow is still piled up all over town and there is not a blade of green grass to be found. Not even a crocus! Even so, we can hear birds singing in the early hours of the morning, a harbinger of better things to come. That sense of still waiting may be the most appropriate way of being at Easter. Spring is now, and still not yet. We celebrate the Resurrection of Our Savior as a completed fact. But for us, for whom the Resurrection is intended, it is not yet a completed fact. We believe that those who have died have experienced the Second Birth of eternal life, but we can t know that for sure. We believe that we, too, will experience the New Life of Heaven when our time on earth is thru, but we cannot know it yet. As much as we joke about it, we know that on the Fourth of July (and maybe even by Memorial Day) there will be no snow in our back yards. And we know in the deepest part of our souls that the promises of Jesus Christ, proven by the fact of His Resurrection, are real and true for us, for those we love, and for all of the people who follow the Lord with our lives. That is what makes Easter happy. Christ is risen and through His grace, we will arise, too! Thus far, we have raised $ 37,283. If you have not yet made a gift or pledge, please fill out a commitment pledge envelope located at the entrances of the church and drop it in the collection basket or at the rectory. The Ladies Of St. Anne will be meeting this Wednesday, April 8 at 7 P.M. in the Parish Center lower hall. Fr. Bob will be our guest speaker. All women are welcome! Tickets for the upcoming breakfast gathering to be held on May 17 will be available at the meeting. 3

Easter Sunday Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (COLOSSIANS 3:2) On this day we thank God for His Son, Jesus, who died and rose for us. We celebrate and sing Alleluia. Let s try to keep the joy of this Easter season in our hearts throughout the year! Pray daily and listen for God s response on how we should use our gifts to fulfill His plan. This year s Lenten Canned Food Drive was once again a success due to the kindness and generosity of our parishioners. Every week volunteers collect the donations and repack the goods into bags of similar items to make it easier for the food pantry to restock their shelves. This year we delivered 450 grocery-sized bags, totaling over 3000 pounds, which were gratefully accepted. Thanks again to all who helped those in great need! Doing SPRING Cleaning Soon? Moving? We are now collecting stuff for our Holiday Fair. Consider setting items aside for our Holiday Fair. The Flea Market is now accepting items. We will be happy to receive canning jars, musical instruments, gloves, belts, dishes, tablecloths, doilies, toys, medals, jewelry, etc. Please note, we are unable to accept books, computers, monitors, televisions, electrical appliances, padded furniture, clothing or shoes. Drop off times for these items are: Saturdays from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. and Mondays from 5-7 P.M. All donations are to be dropped off at the parish center (use lower Third St. and Mechanic St. side door across from the church). Spring Poutine Alert Pre-order now, limited quantity available Poutines will be made on Thursday, April 16th and Friday, April 17th. Poutines will be ready for pickup on April 16th and 17th from 2-5 PM. Please bring your own containers. Thank you! All orders must be submitted by April 10th and paid in advance. Don t be left out! 5 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord St. Cecilia s Church April 5, 2015 Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of self-sacrifice which brings new life to others. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will show the love of the Risen Christ by bringing your love to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread. Saint Vincent de Paul Society donation boxes are located on the radiators in the right and left transepts and also in the rear vestibule of our church. Contributions are welcome to help local needy families with food. The donations to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society during the month of March totaled $1, Thank You! Banns of Marriage Week #1 Timothy Becker & Kaitlin McKinley We See New People in our church every weekend all are welcome to participate in the worship of God and celebrate the Eucharist together. If you choose to stay with the parish community you may register as a parishioner with us by calling the rectory , or fill out one of the registration forms found on tables at the entrances to the church. Children s Liturgy of the Word Sundays at the 9:45 AM Mass After the introductory rites, children ages 4 to 12 are called up to the front of the church and are invited for age appropriate scripture readings, songs, and activities. The children rejoin their families and the worshipping community before the Prayer of the Faithful. There is no sign-up in advance. This is a great opportunity for both parents and children to experience the readings in their own environment.
