3 Third Sunday of Easter St. Cecilia Church, Leominster MA April 15, 2018 Dear Friends, A Message From Our Pastor. These weeks between the Resurrection and the Ascension are a privileged time in the life of the Church. The joy of the Resurrection transforms our lives. Jesus uses this time to reinforce in the lives of His disciples what He has taught them over the previous three years. After all that they had been through, it is understandable why they are confused. Theirs was a culture that took for granted the presence of ghosts, so seeing Jesus again was not impossible for them to comprehend. What Jesus had to explain to them was the He was not a ghost. He had been resurrected and given life anew. That s why He would try to eat in front of them. Their understanding of ghosts was that they couldn t eat, so Jesus eating was an affirmation of His humanity. In all of His teaching after the Resurrection, Jesus emphasized His humanity. The fact that He rose from the dead was proof enough of His divinity. The apostles had to be reminded that He did not stop being human as well. Across the centuries, we have fallen into the same error. We believe that Jesus Christ is God, but we sometimes minimize or even forget that Jesus is also fully human. It is His humanity that is the bridge between heaven and earth. By His Incarnation, he has opened the doors to eternal life. Jesus tells His disciples that repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached in His Name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. That is what we find Peter doing in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles. But in order to do this rightly, they had to understand who this Jesus was. He was, and is, unique in all the world. He contains within Himself the fullness of divinity, while at the same time He is beset by all the frailties and limitations which are part of the human condition. Until we understand that Jesus Christ in His humanity took upon Himself all of our sins, to die on the Cross for the reparation of sin, we can t understand the fullness of redemption. In these weeks between Easter Sunday and Ascension Thursday, we need to reflect upon this great mystery of our salvation. We adore Jesus as God, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. We acknowledge His humanity and embrace both. We will never comprehend the completeness of this mystery but we can enter into it more deeply by prayer and study of Scripture. 4 Third Sunday of Easter St. Cecilia Church, Leominster MA April 15, 2018 The Christmas in Acadia Steering Committee would like to invite you to a meeting on Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30 pm in the Parish Center lower hall. You may ask why are we meeting so early, the Christmas in Acadia Fair is not until November? Well actually, for the committee this is not unusual, it takes a lot of preparation to make this very popular parish event come together each year. We would like to see all chairpersons and volunteers attend this very important meeting. For those who are new to the parish or maybe in the past due to scheduling conflicts or family obligations you were not able to volunteer, please consider joining us. We have new opportunities for volunteers this year. We also invite you to come with recommendations and or comments on how we might be able to serve you better and at the same time striving to enhance and improve this year s Fair. We look forward to seeing you! You're cordially invited to join us on April 22nd for Beacon of Hope's 5 mile Walk for Hope in memory of Sr. Janet Badagliacca, Carl Gauthier, Kim Lane and Lucy Scaramuzzi. Registration starts at 8am and the walk begins at 9am. We begin and end at the Knights of Columbus on Lancaster St. It isn't necessary to complete the entire walk to participate. We'll have refreshments throughout the day and a pizza party following the walk. The first 100 people to register will receive a T-shirt. For more info contact Beacon of Hope at (978) or info@beaconofhopema.org The Montachusett Chorale will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 PM in the Tata Auditorium, Leominster City Hall, 25 West St. The concert will benefit Ginny s Helping Hands, Leominster. Music performed will include patriotic songs, spirituals, a tribute to our armed forces, songs from Broadway and the Great American Songbook and present themes of race, disparity of class, immigration and equality and justice for women and minorities. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Under 18 are admitted free. Tickets are available at Ginny s Helping Hands, 52 Mechanic St and in the Mayor s Office Partners in Charity Appeal.
