We are happy to have you with us. Please introduce yourself to our priests, Fr. Flannagan, and Fr. Martin at the back of the Church at the end of Mass. ~ ~~~~ All Are Welcome ~ ~~~~ We would like to extend a warm and caring invitation to you to join our parish. We look forward to having you become a member of our faith community. Each individual member of our Parish is an important part of the Catholic family. The gifts of faith from the Lord are strengthened and deepened by our Communion in Jesus Christ. The celebration of the Eucharist is the heart of our parish life. Come share your faith, your time and your talent in one of our wonderful ministries. There are white registration envelopes on the back table or call our office at This year, in addition to your traditional Lenten Sacrificial Offering, St. Richard is inviting you to participate in our Lenten Acts of Kindness. Each week, we ask you to consider doing a random act of kindness as a Lenten offering. At the back of the church, we will have white doves, please write the act of kindness performed and place the dove in the basket provided. Each week during lent, the doves will be displayed throughout the church. During the 9:00a.m. Mass children will be encouraged to bring their doves forward during the offertory, and Father will randomly read some of the acts of kindness performed. We encourage all parishioners and their families to use this opportunity to share their kindness and compassion with others as we journey with Jesus to the cross. 2

3 Parish Lenten Season Offerings This year, we want to dedicate each week of Lent to an Outreach Project and so, we will be making donations to various agencies and helping programs in the name of St. Richard parishioners. Each week, we will announce the choice of a People Helping organization and budget a donation for that organization from our donated funds. We will announce, one week in advance, if possible, to what organization we will donate, so that you mad add to the donation personally if you choose to do so. In addition, we will continue to focus on the Danvers People to People Food Pantry and ask that each week be dedicated to a certain need as follows: Mar. 22nd - Week 5 of Lent: Personal Health Care Items (Toothpaste, Shampoo, Shaving Cream, body soap) Mar. 29th - Palm Sunday: Canned Hams and Easter Dinner Foods Thank you for your help and support! The Food Pantry is in need of anything that you can give or happen to bring to Church even if it is not what we noted will be collected during that particular week. It is the Lenten season and our tradition at St. Richard Parish is to reach out to those organizations and institutions that reach out to those in need, on a local, national and international level. The Third organization we will be reaching out to this lent will be Catholic Charities with a donation of $500. Special Easter Collection At Easter, we honor and celebrate our priests. The Clergy Health and Retirement Trust helps care for the health and well-being of our 628 priests, ensuring an appropriate level of care and quality of life for the men who have dedicated their lives in service to our Archdiocese of Boston. Remember the priests who were there for you and your loved ones in times of need, and consider honoring them with a generous gift. Thank you in advance for helping to ensure the continuing care for all our priests The PESACH or Passover meal commemorates God s delivering the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Passover is a festival of freedom. The Passover meal is called Seder. Jesus was celebrating Passover when he said the blessings over the bread and wine, and asked the Apostles to remember Him. That Passover meal, which we call the Last Supper, was the first Eucharist. On Saturday March 28th at 6:30pm in the church hall Celebrate the Last Supper with scripture reading and a Lamb Paschal Meal. The Seder Dinner will include lamb marinated with olive oil and Italian seasonings (parsley, garlic, oregano, basil, black pepper and salt) roasted potatoes, carrots, green beans, dinner rolls, coffee and dessert. Ticket are limited to 50 No tickets sold at the door. Cost $20 per person. Tickets will be on sale the weekend of March 14th & 15th and March 21st and 22nd After all Masses 3

4 Though we are many, we are one Church. Your gift to the Catholic Appeal helps cultivate the seeds of faith within and beyond your parish community. Together, we can continue to ensure that all who see Christ s compassion and care will witness the presence of the Lord in our midst. Pope Francis says All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or the level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insufficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professions while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients. Starting from the significance of Francis` very deliberate use of the title Bishop of Rome to describe his office, this talk will explore the pathways he is opening for dialogue within and outside the church, and for participation of all baptized women and men in evangelization and in decision-making at every level of church live. 6 Living Stations of The Cross n addition to our regular adult program, St. Richard s RCIA team will be offering a program of inquiry for Junior-High age students. Those students who are not Baptized, or are Baptized and have not yet celebrated First Eucharist or Reconciliation, or are curious about the Catholic faith are invited to contact us. Please call Victoria Woodley, RCIA co-director, at I would be happy to meet with you and your parent(s) to discuss the details of the program and your individual needs. We have just begun meeting on Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and would love to have you join us. On Sunday, March 1, at the 11:00 Mass, St. Richard Parish will celebrate the Rite of Election for our catechumen, Mindy Murphy. The RCIA team has been meeting weekly with Mindy since last summer. She has been very diligent in her faith journey and is ready for this step of her initiation into the Catholic faith. Mindy has been very dedicated during this time but she still needs your prayers and support until she is initiated at the Easter Vigil. We will hold a small reception in the Rectory after the Mass. Please join us to congratulate Mindy on her progress through her Faith journey. The elect have now entered the period of purification and enlightenment. The three Sundays following the Rite of Election are the period of scrutiny for the elect. This is a period of more intense spiritual preparation, consisting more in interior reflection than in instruction, and is intended to purify the minds and hearts of the elect as they search their own consciences and do penance. This period is intended as well to enlighten the elect with a deeper knowledge of Christ the Savior. The celebration of the scrutinies and the presentations brings about this process of purification and extends it over the course of the entire Lenten season. Once again this year we are offering the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday at 3:00 o clock at the church. The Stations will acted out by students grades 1-6. We are currently looking for volunteers to take part in the performance. We still have a few roles available. Practices will be on the following Tuesdays March 10 th, 17 th, 24 th and 31 st from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the church. The Stations of the Cross will be held on Good Friday April 3 rd at 3:00 at the church. All are welcome, please come and join us! For more information please contact Sandra Ciruolo at or sciruolo@parishmail.com if you have any questions. Grade 2 Parents Reminder Any Grade 2 parent that did not attend the parent meeting on March 9th, please contact Sandra Ciruolo regarding picking up your child s First Holy Communion materials Thank You 6
