3 Dear Friends, A Message From Our Pastor. The movie Moonstruck has a surprisingly solid appreciation of the values of marriage, considering it is a Hollywood film. There is a scene in which the mother, who is aware that her husband is having an affair, goes out to dinner and ends up in a conversation with another man at the restaurant, who asks her home. She declines. When he asks her why, she says, Because I know who I am. Knowing who you are is not as easy as it sounds. It requires some serious thinking about your beliefs, what you value, and what you are willing to do to maintain your values. The character knew how important her marriage vows were to her and she was not going to compromise, even if her husband was not faithful. Of course, it being a Hollywood happy-ever-after movie, the husband realizes what he is doing wrong and apologizes to his wife and she says, Now go to Confession. John the Baptist also knew who he was. He could have claimed to be the Messiah and his followers would have believed him unquestioningly. But that was not the truth and he was a witness to the truth. He was the forerunner of the Messiah and made the Messiah known when He came. Knowing ourselves demands honesty. It means we do not exaggerate our importance, but it also means we do not minimize what we are capable of doing. Making excuses is never good enough. Instead of saying, That B was good, say If I want to try harder, I can turn that B into an A, or That fight was as much my fault as it was his. Am I willing to be the first to apologize? On another topic, my grandmother used to say: Patience is a virtue to practice when you can. It s rarely found in woman and never found in man. I guess I m proof of that point. I have not been patient in waiting for my health to return and in the end I become sicker. This time, I promised the doctor I would take at least two full weeks off before I start work again. In the meantime, I count on your prayers. Pray also for Father Miguel. He has been doing everything without complaint. When I m back, he deserves a nice vacation home in sunny and warm Puerto Rico. Families are encouraged to attend the 11:15 AM family Mass as a continuation of the children s faith formation. Teenagers in Grades 7-10 Classes resume Monday, January 14 th from 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM. If you arrive late and the doors are locked please call and someone will assist you to enter the building. Theology on Tap is a gathering for young adults (ages 18-39) that provides an informal and laid-back atmosphere to meet other young adults, encounter Christ and dive deeper into various topics and real-life issues that relate to our faith. Whether you are devout in your faith or haven t set foot in a church in years (or never!) Theology on Tap is the perfect place for you! All are welcome! Cost is free!! 5 Mass for Life All are invited to attend the annual Mass for Life on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 19 Chatham St., Worcester. Please join us as we remember the 46th tragic anniversary of Roe v. Wade and pray for an end to abortion and the conversion of our nation. We will also pray in a special way for all those who will be travelling to Washington, DC for the March for Life. All are welcome! National Day of Prayer Did you know that in Dioceses throughout the United States, Jan. 22 is designated as a Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Human Life? As individuals, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer, fasting and/or giving alms, in a way similar to our Lenten practices. Learn more about how you can participate at On Tuesday, Janurary 22, 2019, The Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We will be praying the Rosary for Life and the Divine Mercy On Main Street in Fitchburg across the street from the 391 Main St. Planned Parenthood office, outside of the Business District Public Parking Garage. The garage offers two hours of free parking. Please join us for whatever amount of time you have to pray for the babies. 5

Jerry Caruso, whom many of you know with many talents and Co-Founder of Comedy for a Cure, a Celebrity Impressionist and Songwriter! Standing along side of Jerry will be Bill Campbell, who has done it all from comedy clubs to cruise ships to private events to national TV appearances. He hosts his own cable show Campbell's Comedy Corner and has developed an acclaimed 90 minute one-man show. All Proceeds will be benefiting the Sam Pawlak Community Playground being developed at the Coolidge Park. This playground will have equipment for ALL children! It will have wheelchair accessible equipment, sensory equipment, and it will be fenced in! We hope children from all over central Massachusetts and New Hampshire will come and enjoy this playground.
