2 "Who Art in Heaven" This phrase doesn't mean a physical place because God transcends all time and space. Heaven is not a "space" somewhere up in an area that is yet to be discovered by a NASA probe. God is not distant but majestic. "Who Art in Heaven" refers to a state of being, not elsewhere, because God is everywhere. God dwells in the hearts of all the just. Because we are adopted children of God through the actions of Jesus Christ, we are already "in heaven" because God dwells in us. But, because of sin, we also live here, on earth. Subject to the effects of sin and mortality. "Our Father, Who Art in Heaven" Liturgical Aides needed for Holy Week and Easter es. Please sign up on the sheets located on the back table. 3 If you don't do regular maintenance on your car, it may start spluttering and clanking. If your spouse is making noises (complaining, nagging etc.), maybe it's time to look under the hood. You may find that neglect is the culprit. Perhaps you haven't listened closely to what your beloved needs. Maybe work or the kids have become a priority. Ask. "The people grumbled against Moses" (Ex 17: 3) It's normal in any family to grumble occasionally. Parents grumble about their kids and vice-versa. But what happens after the grumbling? Model apologizing for your child. "I'm sorry. I'll try to do better." Go to the daily bible readings now, and sign up to receive the daily readings each morning by . Mary Statue: In the fall of 2014 funds were raised to replace our outdoor statue of the Blessed TAIZÉ IN GRINNELL is a Ecumenical prayer and worship service which will be held at Grinnell United Methodist Church. on Sunday, April 9th at 7:00 pm. This is a service of simple music, Scripture reading and silence. Taizé offers an opportunity for quiet repose in the midst of our busy lives. The service is ecumenical - an open door for all to enter and experience the presence of the Spirit. CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH To view the Catholic Catechism this week go to: Virgin Mary. Our current statue has served our parish well but she is a little worn and replacement is needed. Recently the Worship & Spirituality Commission was charged with the responsibility of researching companies and designs and recommended purchase of a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes from Artisan Granite to the parish council. The new statue will be about the same height and will be carved out of marble. The council approved the recommendation and the order has been placed. We should expect our new statue to arrive in the next four to six months. Dita, her husband and their seven children depended on the money they earned selling crops from their small farm in Ethiopia. When frequent droughts meant they had no crops to sell their family went hungry. But thanks to a CRS program that prepares families for droughts, Dita was able to open a small store. Instead of relying solely on her farm, she now earns an income selling items like pasta, shampoo and bananas. Now, Dita says her children eat three times a day and are attending school. This week give your Rice Bowl 5 cents or more for each time you turn on your faucet and receive clean water. REMEMBER: Your Lenten sacrifices change lives. Totus Tuus is a summer catechetical program with an emphasis on vocations. The phrase "totus tuus" means "I am all yours" and was the Marian motto of Pope Saint John Paul II. Totus Tuus was started in 1987 in rural Kansas where many youth in rural parishes were getting no formation in the summer. A seminarian, (now priest) named Bernie Jorges was asked to go and teach them in the summer. What started as one man's generous work soon grew into a large task and he had to hire college students to help him teach the kids. Eventually, it became a formal program called Totus Tuus. It spread from the Diocese of Wichita and is now present in a majority of the dioceses in the interior United States. Why Totus Tuus? Totus Tuus offers youth a summer program with a strong Catholic identity that will inspire them in their faith. It is a grand tour through all things Catholic, from the Rosary to the Saints to Adoration. It also has a strong focus on vocational discernment in which the team will encourage the youth to consider their vocation. There are many fun activities for the youth to have a good time at Totus Tuus. You name it, Totus Tuus has it. We are excited to announce the St. Mary s will be hosting Totus Tuus here in Grinnell July Grades 1-6 will meet M-F (July 10-14) from 9am-3pm and we are also considering a JH/HS evening option. We will need assistance with snacks, meals and housing for the College age team members coming here. Keep watching for more details. One day the dog died and the farmer went to the parish priest, inquiring if a could be for the dead pet. Father Patrick told the farmer: "No, we can't have services for an animal in the church, but I'll tell you what, there's a new denomination down the road, and no telling what they believe in, but maybe they'll do something for the animal." The farmer said: "Thanks, I'll go right away. By the way, do you think $50,000 is enough to donate for such a service?" to which Father Patrick replied: "Why didn't you tell me the dog was Catholic?" 8 Thursday Adult Edification Bucket Course We have two presentations scheduled for upcoming Thursdays. On Thursday, March 30 at 6:30 PM in the REC, Deacon David O'Brien, the Director of the Pastoral Care Department at Mercy Hospital will be with us to talk about end of life issues and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care. As parents are getting older and living longer and as medical advances make possible the ability to keep people alive longer what does the Catholic Church say about these advances? What care must be given to maintain life and what care may be declined? How do you decide? Who is there to help? Come listen to Deacon O'Brien and find out. On Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 PM in the REC, Joel Smith and Mellissa Zuber from Smith Funeral Home and Fr. Ron will talk about funerals and pre-planning funerals. Joel and Mellissa will be able to walk you though some steps to have many details taken care of ahead of time with regard to the funeral process and Fr. Ron will be able to help you plan details of your funeral liturgies. These might seem like uncomfortable topics to discuss with the living, but, many families say how much of a relief it was that a parent or relative took the time, ahead of time, to make their funeral plans.
