2 We will honor our High School Graduation Class of 2018 at the 9 a.m. Mass on May 27 th. Graduates should meet at 8:45 a.m. in the Lower Level Classroom, dressed in cap and gown. Graduate information and photos need to be sent to Crystal ASAP for a bulletin insert. WHAT'S YOUR MISSION STATEMENT? Do you have a mission statement for your life? No? You do now: To become a saint - to be in Heaven with God for all eternity. Imagine the excitement of waking up tomorrow morning and going to work with this one mission in mind - to become a saint. Imagine the friendships you will build with other Collection for those effected by the ICE Raid in Mt. Pleasant June 2 & 3. Families directly affected by the immigration raid in Mt. Pleasant last Wednesday await news regarding their loved ones who are being detained. They are experiencing pain from the separation and uncertainty of what is to come next. Bishop Zinkula, Father Connolly and Father Weir, along with family and friends from St. Alphonsus and other parishes, expressed concern for those affected during Mass at St. Alphonsus last Sunday afternoon. We are one on the journey, and sometimes that means sharing the pain when brothers and sisters are hurting. Detaining adults who provide for their families means that those left to manage in their absence will soon be in need of financial assistance for rent and other bills in addition to legal fees for their court cases. Within 24 hours of the raid, $5,000 from diocesan Works of Charity was given. A special collection will be taken up on June 2nd and 3rd for those affected by this raid. saint wannabes. 3 The time is NOW for the Diocese of Davenport to move forward and fill every life with the joy of the Gospel though a fresh encounter with Jesus Christ! Join Bishop Zinkula in opening our hearts to the Holy Spirit through V ision 20/20: From Pentecost to Pentecost. This diocesan-wide effort will begin with Listening Sessions in all parishes, schools, and ministries in the Fall of 2018, followed by Regional Conversations, and then a two-day Convocation in the Spring of At the Convocation, we will celebrate our unity in the joy of the Gospel and identify effective ways in which to share the Good News with others. In the Fall of 2019, we will take the next steps in our parishes, schools and ministries. Finally, there will be a diocesan celebration during Pentecost of 2020 to keep the momentum going. 4 Give Me Patience and I Want it Now! Probably one of the most often confessed sins of adults is a sin against the virtue of Patience. We all want to be more patient. It would make our lives much less stressful. What types of feelings are sins against Patience? Well, road rage, being impatient with your children or your spouse, getting angry when standing in line at the grocery store or the post office or the coffee shop, just to name a few. We generally don't feel good after a bout with impatience. our heart might be racing, maybe our blood pressure will soar, maybe we just feel ashamed of ourselves. Patience is the ability to handle difficult circumstances like waiting or perseverance in the face of delay. It is tolerating or not responding ( not becoming annoyed or angry ) to being provoked. Patience is how much you can take before becoming angry. The opposite or the vice contrary to Patience is Wrath. Remember, Wrath is extreme rage or anger. We can and should pray for the gift of Patience. It is one of the hallmarks of being a good Christian. Prayer can help us endure or persevere in overcoming the things that drive us crazy each day. But remember, there is the passive side of prayer, the act of praying itself. But after we offer the prayer we must work toward or behave in a way that shows we are trying to do our part in cultivating Patience in our life. Its been said we should, "Pray as if everything depends on God and work as if everything depends on us." 5 Totus Tuus ( a Vacation Bible School/Camp) to be held here at St. Mary s July K-6th grade will met from 9am-3pm each day and 7-12th grade will meet from 7-9:15pm. This years theme is the Apostles Creed and the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary. Check out our website for a short video clip about this fun event. The Totus Tuus Team will be staying in Grinnell starting Saturday, July 21st and we Contact Crystal DeNeve / grinnellstmarydre@diodav.org will need to house them and provide meals for them. We will also need help with the K-6 day sessions. Junior High, High School, College and Adults are encouraged to help with snacks and be small group leaders. CYC ( Catholic Youth Camp ) from the Des Moines Diocese: Catholic Youth Camp is a sleep away summer camp for students entering 3rd grade through high school graduation. CYC is located just outside Panora IA about an hour from Des Moines. Check out their website at for more information. There is a poster and more information located on a bulletin board in the Parish Banquet Hall and recent campers Lexi Gallagher, Della Pease and the Hartfamily would be willing to share their excitement about their experience. NEW this year CIA ( Catholics In Action ) for 7-9th grade students! CIA will continue to be a Diocesan Service retreat offered for young people in our Diocese.to be held une this year. The group will stay at St. Mary s in Solon and do work around that area for this exciting event. FYI we will need high school and college students to help lead this event. CIA Family Style will also be based out of St. Mary s in Solon and those dates are tentatively set for July 26-29th ( NOTE: change of dates ). Adult Formation: Our NEXT Bible Study: A Biblical Walk Through the Mass just finished this week. Please let us know if you are interested in having a summer study. The Next Women's Book study: Heaven Starts Now by Fr. John Riccardo is in progress, but may be joined at any time. Contact Janet Kolar at if you are interested in joining. Mary Arnesdorf, Jane McFee and Crystal will be organizing this venture. AFTER we have worked on things that will not be moved to the new facility we will accept items from parishioners. Thank you for your patients in letting us organize St. Mary s items that will be for sale before we tackle additional items. A Sign Up Genius will be created at some point, but until then contact any of the three if you would be available to help organize things and/or help during the event. The sale is currently scheduled for June 22nd & 23rd.

All couples are invited to enhance their listening skills for the benefit of their marriages and families by participating in this practical workshop. Sponsor Couples are especially encouraged to attend to meet their annual marriage enrichment requirement and to gain insights on how to model effective listening skills for the engaged couples with whom they journey. June 5th: Hear the authors of the book Rebuilt Fr. Michael White and Tom Corchoran who wrote a very popular book on parish renewal called Rebuilt will be leading the June Clergy Institute. Due to the nature of this presentation and its practical applications to many parishes in our diocese we are opening the session on Tuesday, June 5th to parish staff and lay leadership. The Tuesday session will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The presentation will explore the experience of Fr. White and Mr. Corchoran in changing the culture of their parish to reach out to lapsed Catholics and the unchurched. This should be an insightful, informative and inspiring day. More information will be made available as the date draws closer.
