2 "Thy Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven" God wants everyone to be saved and to receive the gift of everlasting life. I was asked the other day what if a person hasn't received communion (the Eucharist) and hasn't received the Sacrament of Reconciliation? What will happen to that person? My answer was this...well, ultimately whether a person is "saved" or not, whether they receive the gift of eternal life is up to God...and the individual. God doesn't send people to hell, we send ourselves there. We have to bve open to God's love and grace and want it more than anything and if we don't, well, then at the end of our lives we might not be able to chose life because we're not used to choosing life. God wants everyone to be saved and to receive the gift of everlasting life. We do so by putting into practice the great commandments - we do so by loving God with our who, entire being and by loving our neighbors as ourselves and we are able to love our neighbors in this intimate way because God has first loved us that way. If we are true Christians we will do all we can to do the will of God, even if it hurts. 3 Mary Statue: In the fall of 2014 funds were raised to replace our outdoor statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our current statue has served our parish well but she is a little worn and replacement is needed. Recently the Worship & Spirituality Commission was charged with the responsibility of researching companies and designs and recommended purchase of a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes from Artisan Granite to the parish council. The new statue will be about the same height and will be carved out of marble. The council approved the recommendation and the order has been placed. We should expect our new statue to arrive in the next four to six months. 24 hour Adoration There are still a few spots that need to be filled. Check out the Sign Up Genius link on St. Mary s webpage or contact Jay or Crystal and we can help you get signed up. (FYI each day and time are listed individually. If you are signing up for all six weeks you will need to scroll down an click on each time slot.) Remember you need not sign up to attend, we have the sign up in order to make sure we have two people present the entire time. Thank you for ALL of you that have signed up already and will participate! Would you like to request prayers? This year we will have a book of intentions for people to write intentions they would like to request prayers for those attending Adoration are invited to pray for those intentions during their time in Adoration. Totus Tuus offers youth a summer program with a strong Catholic identity that will inspire them in their faith. It is a grand tour through all things Catholic, from the Rosary to the Saints to Adoration. It also has a strong focus on vocational discernment in which the team will encourage the youth to consider their vocation. There are many fun activities for the youth to have a good time at Totus Tuus. You name it, Totus Tuus has it. We are excited to announce the St. Mary s will be hosting Totus Tuus here in Grinnell July Grades 1-6 will meet M-F (July 10-14) from 9am-3pm and we are also considering a JH/HS evening option. We will need assistance with snacks, meals and housing for the College age team members coming here. Keep watching for more details. Maria de la Luz remembers what it was like growing up in Ejido Hidalgo, Mexico. We said we were rich because we had a lot of corn, beans and animals. But now, with few jobs and even less rain, young people, including Maris s children, are leaving the community in search of a better life. To help families like Maria s, CRS launched a greenhouse project empowering women with meaningful work and creating community. Women visit their community greenhouses to grow cactuses to sell, but they also go for so much more. At the greenhouses, we laugh, we talk, we spend time together. Sometimes we leave our homes angry or sad. But then we start working with the plants and our friends and we forget our problems for a while. says Maria. Give 25 cents or more to your Rice Bowl for each community to which you belong, such as Church community, family, clubs, work, school etc. REMEMBER: Your Lenten sacrifices change lives. Wednesday-Tenebrae Holy Thursday Good Friday Service Holy Saturday 8:30 PM Easter Sunday and 11:00 AM Book Study 33 Days to Morning Glory Monday mornings beginning on April 10th at 10 am in the Church Basement. 5 Thursday Adult Edification Bucket Course On Thursday, April 6 at in the REC, Joel Smith and Mellissa Zuber from Smith Funeral Home and Fr. Ron will talk about funerals and preplanning funerals. Joel and Mellissa will be able to walk you though some steps to have many details taken care of ahead of time with regard to the funeral process and Fr. Ron will be able to help you plan details of your funeral liturgies. These might seem like uncomfortable topics to discuss with the living, but, many families say how much of a relief it was that a parent or relative took the time, ahead of time, to make their funeral plans. A reminder to Eucharistic ministers. Eucharistic ministers are to help clean vessels after each. Please don't assume that someone else will do it. Please stop and check to see if the Eucharistic ministers who are cleaning up need any help. Many hands make short work. Baptismal preparation class has been scheduled and parents are encouraged to attend either before or after the birth of your first child. The next baptismal preparation class will be held THIS MONDAY, APRIL 3rd at in the REC If you wish to attend, please contact the parish office before Noon on Monday, April 3rd. A pastor went out one Saturday to visit his church members. At one house it was obvious that someone was home, but nobody came to the door even though the pastor had knocked several times. Finally, the pastor took out his card and wrote "Revelations 3:20" on the back of it, and stuck it in the door. {Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and him with me.} The next day, the card turned up in the collection plate. Below the pastor's message was the notation "Genesis 3:10". {I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.} Stations of the Cross is offered on the Fridays of Lent at 5:30 p.m. in the church. To report child abuse contact: Iowa Department of Human Services Child Abuse Hotline: and if it involves clergy or church personnel also notify Alicia Owens, the Victim Assistance Coordinator, ; vac@diodav.org or PO Box 232, Bettendorf, IA Join us on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 PM for a condensed study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

If you haven't pledged yet please consider doing so that perhaps we can have the appeal wrapped-up before the beginning May. If we fall short, the parish will have to pay for the remainder through our operational funds. Thank you for your prayerful consideration. The word stewardship is the English translation of a Greek term formed from two words: manage and house. A steward is someone who manages someone else s house (all the owner s possessions). The word steward (or stewardship) is found 87 times in the New Testament. Writers of the New Testament use these words to make the point that all people are God s stewards, because, everything that exists belongs to God. They emphasize that no one ultimately owns anything. God is the owner of everything God created it and it is God who keeps it in existence. Fundamental Element of Stewardship: Everything Belongs to God If stewardship is a way of life based on the Gospel, how do we make it a way of life? Take to heart the opening words of Psalm 24: The earth is the Lord s and all that is it. Recognize that part of our God-given make-up is a need to give and, that giving is a source of peace and happiness. Return a portion of time/skills and possessions to God in a spirit of gratitude. Decide on a planned and consistent way of doing this. Give from the top rather than from what is left over. Stewardship Beyond Earthly Bounds Estate planning is a way to continue stewardship beyond your lifetime. It is vital to invest some time to insure your life s efforts will continue to support the causes and people for whom you care. An attorney can prepare a proper will and make arrangements for the easy, inexpensive transfer of your estate. Please consider naming St. Mary Catholic Church as a beneficiary in your will (sample bequest language is available on our website and from the parish office), retirement assets (this saves significantly on the taxes your heirs would pay) life insurance, trust, etc. We appreciate the thoughtfulness of St. Mary Parishioners who have left a planned gift in support of our mission. These gifts help to build a solid foundation for future generations of St. Mary Catholic Church. Please contact Tom Cirks at Cirk s Financial Services with questions or to request more information about how you can include St. Mary s in your estate planning.
