3 What in the World is Going On? Another shooting this week. What in the world is going on? Shootings, racist graffiti, talking bad about each other, child abuse, spousal abuse, and intolerance, How can these things happen to innocent people? How can people do such bad things? Does it ever make you wonder how we can say that the kingdom of God is at hand? Because it seems just the opposite; the kingdom of God is far, far away. We are driven to search for answers. As Catholics there are some things that we must believe with all of our heart, our soul, our strength, and our being ( the Shema we talked about last weekend ). First, we can never stop believing that there is one God, our God, and he alone is God. Second, we can never stop believing that the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sent upon his Ascension. Finally, the kingdom of God is, in fact, here, regardless of what seems to be happening. The other thing we need to acknowledge is that we humans, with all of our advanced knowledge, with all of our good intentions, with all of our fancy technology, we can mess things up. We make poor decisions, we allow ourselves to be influenced by evil ( sometimes disguised as good), we suffer from diagnosed and diagnosed illnesses; frankly, we mess things up. Evil, acting through us is the cause of the terrible, horrific, faith-shaking, events that are going on around us. We can only combat these things through goodness and prayer. We can't resort to revenge, taking and eye for an eye or worse a body for an eye. or losing hope and doubting God and His presence. We can't stoop to the low, crass, unevolved, behaviors that surround us. We are people of prayer, people of light, people of faith, people of hope...we are people of God. By invoking all of the goodness that we can we strengthen the kingdom of God here on earth. We take back the goodness that seems so far away. We can strengthen our brothers and sisters in their doubt. We have the power, through the Holy Spirit and the Holy Catholic Church to be true positive change-agents for the world. That's what our ancestors have been for generations. Be part of that great tradition. "In the face of tragedy and doubt we do what we do best, we pray." Fr. Barn Sign Painting Class If you have a child or are expecting, and wish to have your child baptized, you are required to attend a baptismal class. The next Baptism class has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30pm. Everything you will need complete a beautiful barn sign painting is provided. Pick a pattern and board size. Obtain an uncolored copy of the pattern from your host and practice coloring until you are happy with a color scheme and design. On the day of the party, pick out your paints and enjoy the party! If you have questions or would like to join ( even mid way through ) please feel free to contact Janet at or Colleen at Adult Study Opportunity already in progress join Lee McFee as he leads Bishop Robert Barron's newest video series on the Mass. The sessions meet in the Church Hall and start shortly after 10:00 ( right after the 9:00 Mass - giving you enough time to get coffee and a doughnut ) and conclude at 10:50 for those who wish to go to 11:00 Mass. The program has six 30 minutes sessions and will include time for questions and discussion after. This is not a class ( no homework! ) but an opportunity for enrichment. The goal is to help you understand the Mass and enter into it with greater appreciation. While it s not necessary you attend all of the sessions the more of the six sessions you attend, the greater the benefit, so come as often as you can!
