The students were involved with the readings and the collections and sang enthusiastically throughout the Mass. Thank you to Mrs. Monica Syler (Tristan 3 rd grade & Sachiko K ) and other parents who set up coffee and donuts for the families who visited after Mass. Parents prepared a donation box for Little Sisters of the Poor and presented the sisters with a gift to help them with their work of serving the elderly in San Francisco. We already received a thank you note from Sister Agnes expressing her appreciation. God bless Ms. Kim Huie, Mrs. Rita Nolan, 7 th grade students and parent chaperones as they enjoy a week of outdoor education at Westminster Woods. FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER April 29, 2012 Have you ever worked for a boss who s just in it for the money? Perhaps he never puts in a minute beyond the absolute minimum hours.

It can be difficult to feel motivated to do quality work when your leader isn t invested in you or the value of your work. On this Good Shepherd Sunday, Jesus is upheld as a model leader.

There s a genuine investment, a deep connection, an intimate relationship between Jesus as leader and his beloved sheep.

4 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER April 29, 2012 Have you ever worked for a boss who s just in it for the money? Perhaps he never puts in a minute beyond the absolute minimum hours. Maybe she doesn t invest any time in you never asks how your weekend was or how your family is doing. It s rarely enjoyable to work for someone like that. It can be difficult to feel motivated to do quality work when your leader isn t invested in you or the value of your work. On this Good Shepherd Sunday, Jesus is upheld as a model leader. He contrasts himself with a hired man who works only for pay and doesn t concern himself with the flock. We hear repeatedly, though, that Jesus is willing to lay down his life for his sheep. There s a genuine investment, a deep connection, an intimate relationship between Jesus as leader and his beloved sheep. This is more than just supervisor and supervisee, more than just a hired watcher of sheep and some random animals. The intimacy between Jesus and his people is profound. We hear this intimacy echoed in today s second reading when John reminds us that we are God s children. God, who is so powerful and so almighty, has drawn us into such a loving relationship as to name us his children. How does Jesus deep love for us affect our lives? It s difficult to want to do good work for a leader who isn t invested in you, but we are led by an incredibly loving Lord do we live our lives aware of this love? Are we willing to be transformed every day into more loving people because of how much God loves us? It s not an easy call, but we have an incredible model to follow a truly Good Shepherd. JANEL ESKER The in macy between Jesus and his people dear Padre Why is Saint Joseph called the Worker? The liturgical calendar lists May 1 as the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker. I know he was a carpenter and is the patron saint of workers, but shouldn t his role in Jesus life be what we remember him for? Simon Dear Simon, Celebra ng one aspect of a person s life doesn t mean we ve forgo en the other dimensions of that person s character. In 1955, under the leadership of Pope Pius XII, the Roman Catholic Church made a conscious decision to set aside May 1 as the date for an annual feast of Jesus foster father, Saint Joseph, as the Worker. The celebra on was developed largely in response to Communist May Day celebra ons of work and labor. By emphasizing Saint Joseph s role as a worker who passed his trade along to his son, Jesus, the Church clearly proclaims its belief in the dignity of work and demonstrates its solidarity with the workers of the world. Reference to Saint Joseph as the Worker and celebra on of the May 1 feast day is not meant to eclipse the more tradi onal feast of Saint Joseph on March 19. That more ancient and founda onal Church celebra on, which is listed on the 2012 liturgical calendar as Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, pays more overt a en on to Joseph s role in Jesus life.
