A READING FROM THE BOOK OF JEREMIAH Thus says the Lord: Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals and make mere flesh their strength, whose hearts turn away from the Lord. They shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when relief comes. They s hall live in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit. The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse - who can understand it? I the Lord test the mind and search the heart, to give to all according to their ways, according to the fruit of their doings. JEREMIAH 17:5-10 A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF PAUL TO THE CORINTHIANS Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your fait h has been in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ - whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. Thanks extended to many A huge thank you to all those involved on February 10 when we welcomed Pastor Rhonda Britton of New Horizons Baptist Church to the Cathedral Church of All Saints. As our preacher for the 10:30 Eucharist, Pastor Rhonda showed us why she is in such demand as a speaker. We were privileged to have Pastor Rhonda at the Cathedral and we thank her for being with us. In honour of Rev. Dr. Rhonda Britton s visit, and as a specific way of celebrating African Heritage Month, our Cathedral Choir was outstanding the selection of music and how it was delivered were inspiring. Thank you. To further extend our appreciation, we hosted a Reception in the Great Hall. Thank you to all those who made the lovely Reception possible those who provided sandwiches, veggies, fruit, and sweets your generous contributions were well received and disappeared quickly! Recognizing African Heritage Month New Horizons Baptist Church (currently meeting at Northwood) offers two special Sunday services to which all are invited. On February 17 at 10:45, there is a youth-directed service, and on February 24 at 10:45, there is a special service, with many invited guests, to help wrap up Black History. FEBRUARY 17,

Saints Alive welcomes Sylvia Parris-Drummond February 28, 2019 Saints Alive will meet on Thursday, February 28 (not Feb. 21) at 2:00 pm, Cathedral (near the font), when the CEO for the Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute, Sylvia Parris- Drummond, will be our guest. The Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute (DBDLI) has been tasked with conducting research, developing programs, and providing services on behalf of our African Canadian/Nova Scotian learners of all ages. Known for getting things done in a thoughtful, respectful and engaging way, Sylvia s experience, knowledge and leadership qualities are highly regarded. All are welcome to Saints Alive to enjoy the opportunity of meeting the lively and engaging Sylvia. For those using the Great Hall Kitchen For anyone using the Great Hall Kitchen, please read and pay attention to the notice inserted in a plastic stand and placed on the counter. This notice outlines specific clean up and refuse disposal requirements for the use of the kitchen during the cold months of winter. Thank you. Faith Formation Tuesday, Feb 12, 19, and 26 at 5:30 - Hymns Round Two facilitated by Susan Drain. Our next sessions continue with hymns, but with a different approach. We will look at hymns as we use them in worship, exploring our own experiences, including our likes and dislikes, and unpacking the hymnbook and some of its texts. SUNDAYS AT FOUR Our Sundays at Four series continues this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. with Evensong sung by the boys of Capella Regalis. Of particular interest will be the anthem Blagoslovi dushe moya Ghospodi (Bless the Lord O My Soul) from the Eastern Orthodox tradition. Next Sunday, February 24 th, Evensong will be sung by the women of the Cathedral Choir featuring music by Dupré, Mendelssohn and Halley. The Sundays at Four brochures for this season are available at the Cathedral entrance. February ASK Box Our February ASK is for toques, gloves, scarves, and socks for the Mission to Seafarers. 13 Pancake Supper The season of Lent is just around the corner, so plan your Lenten journey to include the annual Cathedral Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on March 5th from 5:00 to 6:30p.m. Snow Date Pancake Lunch Sunday, March 10th, 12 Noon 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a supper of pancakes, sausages and baked beans, featuring gingerbread with whipped cream for dessert. (gluten free options available) Ticket Price: $8.00/adult, $4.00/children under 12, preschoolers eat free. Get your tickets at the door or at Sunday Services from: Alice Jessop, (8:00 AM), Sheila Gordon, (9:00 AM), Marjorie Cooper, (10:30 AM). If you can help make the Pancake Supper a success by making beans or gingerbread, please check out the information sheets on the Table at the Back of the Church and sign-up.
