PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS God our refuge and our strength, receive all we offer you this day, and through the death and resurrection of your Son transform us to his likeness. We ask this in his name. A READING FROM THE BOOK OF GENESIS God said to Noah and to his sons with him, "As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark. I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth." 7 future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. GENESIS 9:8-17 A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF PETER Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. 12 Information on a few of the Agencies we support Metro Non-Profit Housing Association Offers supportive housing in a participatory style for 83 people in Halifax and Dartmouth, NS. A Housing Support Centre (HSC) in downtown Halifax where about 100 people come each weekday morning. Here staff members support those who need housing or other services which they are not able to acquire without assistance. HSC provides peer support and social supports for those who may be otherwise isolated, programming in the form of a support group, a cooking class, and the Shining Lights Choir which has over 30 participants. Halifax Housing Help (HHH) (in partnership with Direction 180) which is an innovative effort at housing placement and supportive housing and eviction prevention particularly for those service users who have multiple needs. The Out of the Cold Shelter The Out of the Cold Emergency Winter Shelter (OTCS) is a community-based, volunteer-run winter shelter in its seventh year of operation. The shelter is located at Saint Matthew's United Church at 1479 Barrington Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The primary goal of the shelter is to provide safe accommodation to homeless and street -involved people throughout the cold winter months. The shelter provides a welcoming alternative shelter environment with a high staff-to-guest ratio. OTCS has 15 beds open to men, women, transgender people, and youth with an average of 4 to 6 volunteers on duty each night. Stepping Stone Stepping Stone was founded in 1987 and is the only organization in the Maritimes that deals specifically with street life and sex work from a harm reduction model. Our offices and drop-in centre are located in a modest, non-residential house, where many of our staff members are former sex-workers. Our support is crucial to the wellbeing of hundreds of female, male and transgendered sex workers. FEBRUARY 22,

14 A Travelogue of Europe Rescheduled Russ Hall will be presenting to the Saint Catherine s Group, a travelogue on his trip to Europe, with a primary focus on Cathedrals /Churches. Please join us on Wednesday, February 25 at 7pm. An evening not to be missed. All are welcome! Anglican Rosary Workshop Deacon Ray will lead a workshop on the Anglican Rosary on Saturday, March 14 from 10:00 am to 12 noon. Many Anglicans find the use of prayer beads a positive help in their prayer life. Participants will review the history and current use of this prayer technique and develop group and personal prayers to use with it. Anglican Rosaries are available for a suggested donation of $ A maximum number of 20 people may pre-register on sign-up sheets or by contacting Deacon Ray. Bishop Sue, the Council of the North, and the Women of the Cathedral Women of the Chebucto (us at the Cathedral) and Fort Sackville Regions are invited to join Bishop Sue on Thursday, March 5 at St. Peter s. Birch Cove to learn more about ministry in the Council of the North. This is a time of fellowship and learning as we gather to meet, greet, and break bread together (5:30 8:30 pm - $15). 15 Saints Alive recognizes African Heritage Month Thurs. Feb. 26 Saints Alive is happy to welcome the Honourable Mayann Francis as guest presenter on Thursday, February 26, 2 4, in the Cathedral. Mayann will share her thoughts on what African Heritage Month means to Canadians, what are the benefits of this month-long focus, and what might be some future directions. We are very appreciative that our former Lt. Governor for Nova Scotia and Cathedral member, Mayann, is offering her time for our February Saints Alive gathering, knowing that she is greatly in demand during the month of February. All are welcome. (Please note the change of date from Feb. 12 to Feb. 26). 19 African Heritage Month in Nova Scotia Our Past is the long road of Mathieu De Costa, Rose Fortune and Marie Rose. It s enslavement, segregation, racism, injustice, racial profiling, police mistrust, and prisons. Our past is Black Loyalists, Maroons, War of 1812 Black Refugees, farm workers, house cleaners, and coal miners. It is Africville, the race riots in Birchtown, Viola Desmond, Kirk Johnson, and the formation of the Black Learners Advisory Committee (The B.L.A.C. Report). Our past is the Black United Front, Kwacha House, Black Educators Association, African United Baptist Association, UNIA, and all those who struggled for equality. Our Future is filled with progress, African Nova Scotian professionals, doctors, lawyers, teachers, scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and business owners. We have not overcome all the struggles of our past, but our roots help guide the steps in our journey and give us purpose. Our future is growth, innovation, and leadership. Our roots help establish a strong base for our youth as they strive forward to achieve success. Our future is perseverance; our future is defined by us. Outreach to Infants One of our outreach projects is the Mother and Child support Programme at Phoenix House. Infant related items, baby food, formula, wipes, diapers etc. are always in need.
