May we love you with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength, and may we love our neighbour as ourselves; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. A READING FROM THE SECOND BOOK OF KINGS Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel. Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here; for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the company of prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up, and struck the water; the water was parted to the one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me what I may do JUNE 30,

7 for you, before I am taken from you." Elisha said, "Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit." He responded, "You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted you; if not, it will not." As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and crying out, "Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. He picked up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. When he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. 2 KINGS 2:1-2, 6-14 A READING FROM THE LETTER OF PAUL TO THE GALATIANS For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for selfindulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such JUNE 30,

8 things. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; but they did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. When his disciples James and John saw it, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" But he turned and rebuked them. Then they went on to another village. As they were going along the road, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." But Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." 11 Bulletin Notices For inclusion in Sunday s bulletin, notices must be received by the preceding Wednesday. Wine & Hosts Wine & Hosts have been given this week in Loving Memory of our Parents from David & Rano Khokhar. Landscaping As you look around the new Diocesan Centre and Shannex property you will notice the efforts that have gone into landscape work. White roses are now in bloom along the Diocesan Centre between European Hornbeam tress in full leaf. If you haven t had opportunity as yet, stroll into the Great Hall and see the gardens that form a backdrop to the large window. Soon the landscape work will begin in front of the Cathedral with hedges on either side of the new steps, and a variety of flowering plants edging the circular driveway and hillside. The delay, at the moment, is some additional paving work which needs to be done to the driveway ramp to correct rainwater runoff. Once the paving is completed the panting will begin! Open Doors! We are pleased to welcome our 2013 summer Tour Guide, Rebecca MacInnis. Rebecca is a native Haligonian who has just completed her first year at McGill. Rebecca will be welcoming visitors and offering Tours of the Cathedral Tuesday Saturday, 9am 4pm, until Friday, August 30. BULLETIN NOTICES 11

BAS Appeal As most of you know we have been appealing for donations to replace BAS books which were missing pages and have to be disposed of and those which were previously disposed of. At present we have 88 new books purchased before this appeal, 198 taped books and 46 books which will be taped shortly for a grand total of 332 BAS's. A count of our hymn books indicates we have more of these books then Books of Alternative Services. If you have not given $23.00 towards purchase of a new BAS there is still time to do so. If you wish the book given in memory of a loved one or a passage of scripture this can be noted on the inside cover. If you could place a envelope with your donation and how you would like the dedication to read in the collection plate this will allow us to purchase much needed new prayer books. 15 Bible Discussion Group The Friday morning group will continue on in the summer. We look at the readings for Sunday and try to relate them to today. If you are free on Friday mornings during the summer, why not join us for a while, or stay for the whole time. Time 10am- 11:45am, in one of the new meeting rooms. - Revd John Swain PWRDF accepting donations for Alberta floods The Primate s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is sending a $15,000 grant to the Anglican diocese of Calgary to help those affected by the severe floods that recently hit Calgary and southern Alberta. PWRDF, the relief and development agency of the Anglican Church of Canada, announced that it is also accepting donations that will go toward areas of priority identified by the diocese. These include providing for the immediate needs of people from Siksika First Nation, where 1,000 people have been displaced, 280 homes have been destroyed and drinking water has to be trucked in. Donations will also go toward the Calgary Urban Projects Society, which is providing food, transportation and diapers for 70 individuals who have been evacuated from their homes. Funds will also be provided for the town of High River, as well as a drop-in centre that provides nonperishable food items, steel-toed work boots, toiletries, clothing and bedding. Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR), the relief agency of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), has also launched a similar appeal, as have other churches, including the United and Presbyterian churches. Three people were killed and at least 100,000 displaced by the worst flooding the province has seen in decades, according to the RCMP. As of Saturday afternoon, the Alberta government said 25 communities were in a state of local emergency after heavy rains caused rivers and creeks to overflow, according to the Edmonton Journal. Media reports say that the community of High River, south of Calgary, remains under water, and its 13,000 residents have no power and other basic services. Alberta Premier Alison Redford has told a press conference that cleanup efforts could take up to 10 years. BULLETIN NOTICES 15
