1 Minutes of St. Anne's PPC Meeting 18th January 2018 Present Fabio Feroleto, Fr Gerry, Esther King, Mary Rooney, Yvonne Ripley, Peter Skrobot, Margaret Swift, Iris Thomson 1) Apologies Anne Cleary, Lesley Crowther, Cath Etchells, Sophie Etchells, Sue Hardman, 2) Opening Prayer Fr Gerry opened with a prayer. 3) Previous minutes Iris has donated a carpet for the Children's corner but further work needs to be done to make it look inviting. It was suggested that the Children's Liturgy group could look at it. 4) Group Reports Music Group - report given by Iris The music group played and sang at the Mass on Christmas Eve. A group sang at Phyllis Bailey's funeral on January 15th. Phyllis was a much loved member of our choir for many years. The group will also play and sing at Fr Denis's Anniversary Mass on 21st January at 10am. Rehearsal beforehand in the Church at 9.15am. Churches Together in Buxton - report given by Iris Fr Gerry, Rosemary and I attended the meeting on November 15th held in our Parish Centre. There is a service for Christian Unity at 6pm on January 21st at the Community Church on London Rd. At the meeting I raised the issue of Modern Slavery and reported on the excellent seminar organised by our Diocese which about 10 of us from the Parish attended at New Mills in April. I suggested that this might be a possible focus for CTIB in Buxton. Ingrid Keith, Chaplain of Univ of Derby is very keen to proceed with this. I met her the first week in January and she is very keen that this might be the focus for the annual talk at the Dome in April. Yvonne attended the Chaplaincy Meeting where this was discussed and may have more information to add. There is a Taize Service at 6pm on Sunday 28th January, Methodist Church. Our Parish will be responsible for the Lenten Lunch at Bath Road Centre on February 20th. Rosemary and I will be asking for some helpers and soup makers. We were very grateful for all the help last year. It would also be good to drum up some support in the Parish as attendance last year was not great. Justice and Peace - report given by Yvonne 1. Penitential Service: Materials from Pax Christi were used to plan the Litany

2 2. Information from the Diocesan Modern Day Slavery Course passed to the Chaplaincy to prepare for their annual lecture. 3. Peace Sunday - Prayer Cards were given out, Prayers of the Faithful were said at weekend masses for peace, and a coffee morning was held for Pax Christi which raised Preparations for the Livesimply launch and award are ongoing. Yvonne is going to report in full via to the PPC on a recent meeting with working party re launch. 5) There will be a Livesimply Stations of the Cross on Palm Sunday 25th March 4pm Social - report given by Ester On November 11th 2017 we provided tea, coffee and biscuits for Fairfield band and staff of Derby University during the graduation ceremony in the church. On Sunday November 19th after the Youth Sunday Mass, we set up a Brunch in the centre using all of the now 'famous sausage rolls' served with Ken's mushy peas and gravy. Mancy and Edith provided very tasty spring rolls and samosas for our vegetarians. Between parishioners enjoyed the meal (came back for seconds) and meeting up with family, friends and other parish members. Thank you everyone for making it a special occasion. Our carol concert on the 17th of December was also very successful; again between people joined us to enjoy mulled wine, mince pies and sing some of their favourite Christmas Carols. Parishioners gave generously to our collection for Charis House, the Foodbank and Nightstop. A big thank you to everyone. This year is was decided to have afternoon tea on Saturday April 7th 2.30 for 3pm for the Senior Citizens. This will replace the Senior Citizens Spring lunch. Property - reported by Peter Plumbing/heating system in the presbytery is going to be next month. Key code with the door for the centre is going well. Water heater in the kitchen of the parish centre needs replacing. The soak away in the car park is blocked and not working, Peter is to get a local firm in to clean it. Outreach - received from Ann Presentation Associates: Gained some new members. The Associates decided this Christmas to have Mass for the sick and housebound parishioners instead of buying gifts. This was greatly appreciated by the recipients. Welcome: nothing to report. Visiting: nothing to report. Report from Fabio

3 The reverse Santa scheme worked well, where people donated new toys in Spring Gardens and they were then handed to families who were in need. Their clients also accessed the foodbank. 5) 'We Need You' appeal i ) Response - Fr and Margaret reported that the response has been good. Margaret is currently compiling a spreadsheet of who is willing to do what for each area. The parishioners who volunteered to clean have already been in action and cleaned the church for Christmas. The new Eucharistic Ministers are starting on Sunday 21st January. ii) PPC update on roles and & responsibilities - Margaret has asked Cath Etchells to coordinate the Cleaners and make a rota. Fabio has been asked to coordinate the Welcomers and Peter the D-I-Y team. Other Coordinators are still needed to cover the Readers, etc. 6) AGM i) Format - To be held in Hardwick Room with each group having information on display wall. Fr to invite parishioners and advertise in bulletin. Sausage baps will be served along with tea and coffee. ii) PPC Elections will take place. Several members are stepping down, Anne Cleary, Cath Etchells and Sue Hardman. iii) Date - Sunday 22nd April after Mass. 7) Review of Advent and Christmas celebrations The two Reconciliation services were received very well. The lighting at the evening Reconciliation service was a little too dim to read comfortably. The lighting on Christmas Eve worked better. The tea lights around the church gave a good atmosphere. It was felt that the planning of Liturgy, decorating of church was very rushed and planning and for next year this needs to start earlier. A group is needed to help with the tidying up. Next year it has been decided to produce an A4 folder sheet to give the running order of the Christmas Eve Service. Some thought was given to revisiting the Advent wreath and Christmas tree. A Jesse tree was suggested instead of a Christmas tree and placed on the sanctuary. Fr asked if we could get creative and give some thought to the baptismal stand and the pulpit. Christmas Card appeal - Twenty two cards were placed on the board which raised The Carol Concert raised After doing it for many years Iris now feels it needs to be handed on so it can be redeveloped. The Christmas Card appeal ties into Livesimply very well. Foodbank appeal as always the parishioners were very generous, a big thank you goes to all.

4 8) Finance - to be carried forwarded to next meeting. 9) STAND update STAND Easyfundraising and Easysearch accounts, created mid-november, have raised ~ 11 to date with 11 supporters. This is free money raised at no extra cost by those who shop online via the easyfundraising gateway and search online with the easysearch search engine. 2A STAND BT MyDonate donation account is in confirmation stage by BT A STAND Donation envelope to replace the Wall Donation? envelopes are waiting approval. Other related documents are in draft e.g. STAND Gift Aid Declaration A brainstormed list of possible ways to generate funds/income will be finalised on 25 January An archive file of potential grant sources has been created Further grant applications were made but were unsuccessful, so one success and four failures to date. Two further applications for small amounts (~ 500 max) are being finalised. It is hoped one will provide 500 to refresh the Hardwick Room. Estimates as to what 500 might achieve there are being obtained A new assessment of Community Centre maintenance/repair needs has been made but not yet reported to STAND A STAND sub-committee with the task of obtaining estimates for agreed Community Centre works has yet to be formed A STAND web-page on the Church website is to be created Some STAND members visited the Methodist Church to see what we might learn. They were very helpful. They served coffee in church after services to encourage participation and had many volunteer helpers. Volunteers were an essential component of all their many activities. 10) Bereavement notice It was decided that we will have a bereavement notice board at the back of the church. Informing people of anyone who has recently died and when the funeral is along with a picture of the deceased. AOB To encourage school/parish partnership Fr is hoping to invite St. Anne's school children to mass on Mothering Sunday. Fr Gerry has suggested holding an anointing the sick service in June. There will be an Easter planning group meeting on Thursday 22nd February, notice to go in bulletin. Date of next meeting Monday 19th March 7.15pm Peter closed the meeting with a prayer.
