2 Sacramental Preparation Baptism: is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM at Most Holy Rosary Church, and at 9:00 AM on the third Sunday of the month at Holy Spirit. The preparation process should begin at least three months before the planned date of the Baptism. A Baptism Preparation Class is required for parents (godparents may attend if they wish). This class is offered on the fourth Sunday of each month at 9:00 AM at Holy Spirit Church. Please call the parish office to register. The date of the baptism is scheduled after attending the class. Parish membership and active worship is required for two months prior to preparation. Haven t Received Your Sacrament on Schedule? Families of children in grades three and up who have been baptized but have not yet received any formal religious education, as well as those who have not been baptized, should contact the Parish Office for information on how to proceed. Initiation of Adults and Older Children: This is an extended formation process for unbaptized or uncatechized adults or baptized Christians of other faith traditions who wish to become members of the Catholic Church, as well as for unbaptized or uncatechized school-aged children. Please contact the parish office for more information. Initiation is celebrated at the Easter Vigil after a formation period of one or two years. Adult Confirmation: This is a program for persons over the age of 18 who have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Eucharist, but who never completed their initiation with the Sacrament of Confirmation. The program is a week program, with Confirmation being celebrated on the Solemnity of Pentecost. Please call the parish office for more details. Matrimony: Couples wishing to marry in Good Shepherd parish are required to make initial arrangements at least one year in advance. Four sessions with the priest or deacon, as well as Pre-Cana or Engaged Encounter take place during this year. Parish registration and active worship for at least two months are required before a date may be scheduled. Anointing of the Sick: Anyone who is seriously ill or unable to come to church for a length of time should contact the parish office to arrange for the Anointing of the Sick. Eucharistic Ministers bring Holy Communion to homebound parishioners every Sunday, and one of the priests will visit on the First Friday of each month. Please call the parish office to make arrangements. The Diocese of Metuchen provides Catholic priests to serve at all local hospitals. Holy Orders: If you are interested in learning more about the priesthood or religious life, contact the Vocations Office of the Diocese of Metuchen at ,ext or by at vocations@diometuchen.org or visit Parish Registration: We welcome you to the Good Shepherd Parish Community! Please register at the Parish Office as soon as you are able to do so, and the staff will be more than happy to inform you about our parish and the opportunities we offer. Parish registration is required for religious education, celebration of all Sacraments and certification as a sponsor for Baptism and Confirmation. Regular Sunday worship with us indicates a practicing Catholic, not just parish registration. An assurance of family practice and raising children in the faith they seek is necessary for the sacraments of initiation and certification of sponsorship. 3 A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR: Due to the bulletin publisher s holiday schedule, I m once again writing this letter well in advance of you reading it. Today s letter was written on December 22 nd, in the midst of all the last minute decorating and planning for Christmas. Hopefully next week I ll be back on track! Today the Christmas Season reaches its traditional twelfth day (which is actually this Tuesday) with the Solemnity of the Epiphany. In the Eastern Rite and Orthodox churches, this is the celebration of Christmas. Many of us of Eastern European descent still call this Little Christmas, and it was my family s custom of exchanging one last gift today in commemoration of the gifts of the Magi. Since we are on the topic of gifts, I would like to thank all of you for your generosity in the Christmas Collection, as well as to thank those of you who sent Father Morley and me cards, gifts and enough cookies to see us through the winter! Your generosity is deeply appreciated! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who helped to make the season bright as the song goes, to all those who helped clean and decorate both churches, to all of our liturgical ministers and especially to all our parish musicians for the incredible music we ve heard! All the hard work and effort is appreciated by all! Mass attendance on December 20/21 was 753. Low Gluten Communion Wafers For those who require special dietary restric ons, we have Church approved low gluten hosts available at both worship sites. If you need to receive one of these hosts at Communion, please inform the priest or deacon at least five minutes before Mass begins. These hosts will be put in a special pyx apart from the other hosts on the Altar to eliminate any cross contamination.

They are baptized members of our Parish and we are committed to their ongoing faith development. Our children need to be a part of worship in order to learn how to worship. At Home: Talk about prayer and parts of the Mass and what they will see and hear. Explain Church is a place where people speak quietly and move slowly and calmly. In Church: Encourage your child to learn and participate in the actions of the Mass: making the sign of the cross, sitting, standing, kneeling, listening, responding, singing. You can bring a few small, quiet toys or coloring books for smaller children. But please leave the electronic games at home. Remember that children learn by observing you and others, whether you are intending to teach or not. 7 2014 Bishop s Annual Appeal Life-Changing Faith The 2014 Bishop s Annual Appeal continues until the end of the fiscal year, June 2015, so it s not too late to make a gift. Our goal is to have 100% participation. Please prayerfully consider supporting the appeal with a pledge or one-time gift as your means allow. Your support is greatly appreciated. To date, the Development Department has received pledges totaling $14, and payments totaling $12, from 116 parishioners. This represents 59.3% of our $24, goal. Thank you for your efforts. Spreading the Word the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel. (Ephesians 3:6) Today we celebrate the fact that Christ came to all of us, not just the Hebrews. He made us all one body with Him. Because God has given us different gifts, we all have different yet equally valuable roles to play in the Body of Christ. If one of us does not play his or her role the whole body suffers.
