2 Sacramental Preparation Baptism: All Baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at 9:45 AM. The preparation process should begin at least three months before the planned date of the Baptism. A Baptism Preparation Class is required for parents (godparents may attend if they wish). This class is offered on the fourth Sunday of each month at 9:45 AM. Please call the parish office to register. The date of the baptism is scheduled after attending the class. Parish membership and active worship is required for two months prior to preparation. Haven t Received Your Sacrament on Schedule? Families of children in grades three and up who have been baptized but have not yet received any formal religious education, as well as those who have not been baptized, should contact the Parish Office for information on how to proceed. Initiation of Adults and Older Children: This is an extended formation process for unbaptized or uncatechized adults or baptized Christians of other faith traditions who wish to become members of the Catholic Church, as well as for unbaptized or uncatechized school-aged children. Please contact the parish office for more information. Initiation is celebrated at the Easter Vigil after a formation period of one or two years. Adult Confirmation: This is a program for persons over the age of 18 who have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Eucharist, but who never completed their initiation with the Sacrament of Confirmation. The program is a week program, with Confirmation being celebrated on the Solemnity of Pentecost. Please call the parish office for more details. Matrimony: Couples wishing to marry in Good Shepherd Parish are required to make initial arrangements at least one year in advance. Four sessions with the priest or deacon, as well as Pre-Cana or Engaged Encounter take place during this year. Parish registration and active worship for at least two months are required before a date may be scheduled. Anointing of the Sick: Anyone who is seriously ill or unable to come to church for a length of time should contact the parish office to arrange for the Anointing of the Sick. Eucharistic Ministers bring Holy Communion to homebound parishioners every Sunday, and one of the priests will visit on the First Friday of each month. Please call the parish office to make arrangements. The Diocese of Metuchen provides Catholic priests to serve at all local hospitals. Holy Orders: If you are interested in learning more about the priesthood or religious life, contact the Vocations Office of the Diocese of Metuchen at , ext or by at vocations@diometuchen.org or visit Parish Registration: We welcome you to the Good Shepherd Parish Community! Please register at the Parish Office as soon as you are able to do so, and the staff will be more than happy to inform you about our parish and the opportunities we offer. Parish registration is required for religious education, celebration of all Sacraments and certification as a sponsor for Baptism and Confirmation. Regular Sunday worship with us indicates a practicing Catholic, not just parish registration. An assurance of family practice and raising children in the faith they seek is necessary for the sacraments of initiation and certification of sponsorship. Please notify the parish office of any changes in phone number, address, address or when leaving the parish. 2 GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH FINANCIAL CORNER Collection Report 9/9/18 Weekly $4, Peter s Pence $1, Monthly Operating Income & Expense June 2018 Collection Income $ 19, Other Income $ 18, Total Income $ 37, Expenses $ 36, Month's Income/(Deficit) $ $1, Year-to-Date (Jul '17 - May 18) Income/(Deficit)* $ (16,461.00) Outstanding Diocesan Debt $ 51, The Parish Family of the Good Shepherd Welcomes: Ms. Abigail Ortiz, Mr. & Mrs. David Thompson, Mr. & Mrs. Enrique Rivera, Ms. Auria Obando, Mr. & Mrs. Mariano Garcia, Mr. Enrique Valdez, Ms. Noemi Jimenez, Ms. Geni Rullan, Ms. Maribel Ottenwalder & their families. 3 I m writing this letter on the morning of September 11 th, a day that most of us have very vivid recollections of. As I mentioned at Mass that morning, in one of those God-incidents that I often talk about, the readings and prayers for the Liturgy of the Hours this past Tuesday were the exact same ones that were appointed for use that day seventeen years ago. And this past Tuesday we were getting all the final preparations ready for the celebration of Confirmation this past Thursday night. So with all that behind us, I can start gearing up for the Fall and hopefully a week that s a little quieter than last week! Our Tricky Tray is Just About a Month Away! Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 21 st and our annual Tricky Tray. The Tricky Tray is fast becoming our biggest fund raising event of the year. A LOT of hard work has already gone into this year s event, and once again, through YOUR generosity, we have a lot of really great prizes. Of course, we can always use more, so if you re planning to donate a gift, please drop it off soon! And we can always use a lot of help in setting up beforehand, as well as on that day for runners and clean up. And most especially, your attending this event is essential. Tickets are on sale now, and we usually sell out pretty fast, so don t wait! Our Religious Education year has begun! Religious Ed classes for grades 1-8 resumed last Saturday, September 8 th. All NEW registrations and re-registrations will be accepted only at the Parish Office and are subject to a $30 late fee. RCIA/Adult Confirmation Classes will also be starting soon - for more information about these programs, please contact Deacon Mickey Coppola at the Parish Office Mass Book, Third Notice: The 2019 Mass Book will be opened next Tuesday, September 25 th at 9:30 AM. NO requests will be taken before that time. We will also be accepting requests for Altar Flowers, Sanctuary candles and bread and wine donations for 2019 at that time. We will be following the same procedure we ve been using for the past several years, except that you can no longer reserve a Mass for a family member who is not present on that day, so that all parishioners have an equal opportunity. If any couples from the parish are celebrating their 25 th, 50 th or 60 th Wedding Anniversary in 2019, please call me directly at the Parish Office BEFORE September 25 th so that we can make arrangements for any special celebration you may be planning. I ve gotten quite a few calls for this already, so don t delay! Altar Server Training: We will be starting a training class for any boys and girls in grades 3-12 who would like to become Altar Servers. We will have two training sessions, this Saturday, September 22 nd and next Saturday, September 29 th at 12:00 Noon in the Church. Sessions last about one hour, and we ask that you be present for both sessions. Once training is completed, you will be scheduled for Masses beginning in November. If you are interested, please call the Parish Office. Relics of St. Anthony of Padua: On Friday, October 5 th, as a part of a nation-wide tour, the relics of St. Anthony of Padua will make a stop, not only in our Diocese, but right in our neighborhood! The relics will be on display for veneration at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Port Reading. The church will be open for prayer from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, with a special Mass being offered at 12:15 PM. All are invited to attend. Mass attendance on September 8/9 was 506. Have a great week ahead, Fr.
