The preparation process should begin at least three months before the planned date of the Baptism. A Baptism Preparation Class is required for parents (godparents may attend if they wish). This class is offered on the fourth Sunday of each month at 9:00 AM at Holy Spirit Church. Please call the parish office to register. The date of the baptism is scheduled after attending the class. Parish membership and active worship is required for two months prior to preparation. Haven t Received Your Sacrament on Schedule? Families of children in grades three and up who have been baptized but have not yet received any formal religious education, as well as those who have not been baptized, should contact the Parish Office for information on how to proceed. Initiation of Adults and Older Children: This is an extended formation process for unbaptized or uncatechized adults or baptized Christians of other faith traditions who wish to become members of the Catholic Church, as well as for unbaptized or uncatechized school-aged children. 3 Reflecting on God s Word Is someone in your house going back to school? If so there are books and supplies to buy, schedules to plan, transportation to be arranged. There is the worry over new teachers and whether everything that was learned last year has been forgotten. But no matter. Most of the time the school year begins with a review. That s good because sometimes we understand things better the second or third time we learn them. With the scriptures this Sunday all of us are going back to school. The series of selections from the Gospel of Mark and the letter of James that we begin this week will teach us one more time what it means to be a disciple. Lucky for us, since most of us can only learn this lesson if we hear and apply it on a daily basis. Today s first reading also instructs us to hear and observe the commandments of the Lord... that [we] may live (Deuteronomy 4:1, 2). And the psalm reviews the basics: The one who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord (15:1a). Virginia Stillwell Copyright 2014, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. Purgatorial Mass Society September 2015 Caterina Sinatra Req the Venturi family Julia & William Campbell Req daughter Shirley Richard Skonieczny Req wife Shirley Enrolled Society members will be listed in the Bulletin once a month. At every First Friday Morning Mass at Most Holy Rosary the names of those enrolled for the month will be placed on the Altar for one year. Purgatorial Mass Society If you would like to enroll a loved one for , please call Maria at the Parish Office. The donation is $25.00 per enrollment. This includes a large attractive card for you to give to the family when a loved one passes away. New enrollments will be listed in the bulletin once a month. At every First Friday Morning Mass at Most Holy Rosary the names of those enrolled for that month will be placed on the Altar and will remain there for one year. Please note the names will not be read during Mass. 3 Last week's discussion of the permanent diaconate and its restoration will lead inevitably to questions about "deaconesses," something certainly under study as historians and liturgists research our tradition's treasures. Today, there are some settings in which women are entrusted with pastoral administration and have been called to preach and to officiate at weddings. Lay people can lead the funeral rites and daily prayer. Yet the question of ordination to the diaconate for women is complex. Yes, we have had deaconesses in our tradition. We know that they assisted with the baptism of women, and that ministries were entrusted to them. We also know that some early church councils took care to call them lay persons, and specifically forbade ordination. What i James Field, Copyright J S. Paluch Co. Our 8th graders who were registered with us last year will need to re-register NOW. All forms are available at each worship site and the Parish Office. If you have any questions please call us at R.C.I.A. KEEPERS OF THE MEMORY We who follow Jesus are the preachers and keepers of the memory of the Garden of Eden. Deep down in every human heart is the longing for the restoration of the peace, the love, the wholeness of Eden. Jesus came to tell us that restoration can take place only if our hearts are changed. If our outward practices do not flow out of a heart that knows God and loves God and all of God's creation, then those outward practices are empty and not authentic. If you, or someone you know, feel that hunger to come closer to God and God's creation, we invite you to join us at a Session. They are opportunities to ask questions about God, Jesus, the Catholic Faith Family. All who are unbaptized, baptized into another faith denomination, or baptized Catholic but have not received the Eucharist or Confirmation are invited. Sessions are for those who wish to inquire, explore, and search for ways to grow in relationship with God. Please contact the parish office for more information.
