4 A note from Father Richard: Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time: The readings for the Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time present one of the foundational teachings of our Christian faith: the resurrection from the dead. But within Jewish history, before and during Jesus lifetime, resurrection from the dead was a relatively new and still debated area of Jewish theology. One of our core beliefs as a Christian community is in the resurrection of the dead. Each time we profess our faith (whether it is the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, or our baptismal promises), we announce that we believe in the Resurrection Christ s on the third day, and our own at the end of time. The month of November is a time when we particularly recall those who have gone before us with the sign of faith. We honor the myriad of unnamed saints who already share in the blessedness of the heavenly kingdom. And we pray for the many who have died, that they too may enjoy eternal light, happiness, and peace. Our belief in the Resurrection unites us in a communion of faith that is beyond the grave. And we pray that we may all come to the everlasting dwelling place in heaven. CHILDREN AT MASS: Children and young people are very much part of our worshipping community. At the 10:00 AM Mass on Sunday, to help our young children have a better understanding of the Word of God, one of our Faith Formation Teachers, Stephanie Thompson, gathers the children after the Opening Prayer of the Mass and goes with them to the Ministry Room off the narthex of the church to help them understand the scripture readings of the day. If you have young children, please bring them to the 10:00 AM Mass so that they may participate in the Liturgy. BLOOD DRIVE: St. Mark will sponsor a blood drive on Sunday, November 17th. The bus will be in our parking lot from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. All donors will receive a T-shirt, plus a wellness checkup including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count, and cholesterol screening. CREMATION: From time to time we are asked questions about cremation. A few years ago, the Bishops of Florida presented us with a Statement and Policy on Cremation. Here is summary of that statement: We would like quote from that document: As Christians, we profess faith in the incarnation of the Word made flesh and His bodily resurrection which we will share on the last Day. While Jesus walked on this earth, he had a human body. With his hands he cured the sick and the crippled. With his feet he walked to visit friends and meet strangers to whom he preached the news of salvation. On Mt. Tabor, his human body was transfigured. On the Cross, his body endured intense suffering for our redemption. His body risen from the empty tomb is our hope of resurrection. We are reminded of the words of St. Paul who wrote to the Corinthians: You must know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within the Spirit you have received from God. You are not your own. You have been purchased, and at a price. So glorify God in your body. (1Cor. 6:19-20) The Code of Canon Law states the the Church earnestly recommends that the pious custom of burying the bodies of the dead be observed; it does not, however, forbid cremation unless it has been chosen for reasons which are contrary to Christian teachings. The Order of Christian Funerals recommends that when cremation is chosen, the body be cremated after the Funeral, thus allowing for the presence of the body at the Funeral Mass. This is the preferred way. But for pastoral reasons cremation may take place before the Funeral liturgy. The following are some Guidelines: The Church recommends that the burial or entombment of the cremated remains occurs without delay, once the cremation process is completed. The practice of scattering cremated remains on the sea, from the air, or on the ground or keeping remains at home of a relative or friend of a deceased are not the reverent disposition the Church requires. Cremated remains are to be placed in an urn and either buried in the ground or at sea, or entombed in a columbarium. The urn is to contain the cremated remains of only one person. The cremated remains of one person are not to be divided but rather are always kept in the same urn. THANKSGIVING: On Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, we will have Mass at 9:00 AM. We ask that all who attend this Mass to please bring a non-perishable food item that we will collect and give to the Community Caring Center. Let us remember those who have less. VETERANS DAY: The Boynton Veterans Council and the city of Boynton Beach invite you to attend the Veterans Day Celebration at Veterans Memorial Park (411 North Federal Highway) on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM. This includes the unveiling of the New Monument honoring those who served and never returned The Unknown Solders Of All Wars. THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED THIS MONDAY FOR VETERANS DAY. GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS!! MASS KIT: Every month we celebrate Mass at Nursing and Retirement Facilities within our Parish. We have purchased a new Mass Kit, which includes everything that is needed to celebrate Mass. If anyone would like to contribute to help pay for the Mass Kit, please contact Fr. Richard. 4
