For information please call Dorothy Women s Prayer Group The Women s Prayer Group calls the women of St. Mark parish who wish to deepen their relationship with the Lord and one another to prayerful discussions of scripture and Church teaching on a variety of themes. It seeks to support, befriend, and bond the women of the parish as they seek to integrate faith with their vocations as married, single and religious Catholic women of the twenty first century. The giving and receiving of spiritual support is the fruit of the women s gathering which takes place in the prayerful setting of our parish every third Friday evening of the month at 7:30PM in the St. Clare Room. Bible Study: Tuesdays from 7PM to 8PM, in the St. Francis Center, formerly the Early Childhood Learning Center to the north of the church. We are currently studying the Book of Psalms. 4 A note from Father Richard: SOLEMNITY OF EASTER: The solemnity of Easter celebrates the defining moment in salvation history: the resurrection of Christ. Easter Sunday (including the Easter Vigil) is the pinnacle of the liturgical year, sometimes referred to as the queen of the royal liturgical family. They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don t know where they put him. Mary of Magdala, seeing the stone rolled away from Christ s burial place, runs to tell the disciples what she thinks is bad news. The grave is empty. We, of course, know that the empty tomb really means good news! We know that the cross was not the end of the story, that Jesus conquered death, walked again amongst his followers, and ascended into heaven where he reigns even now. Jesus has won! He is triumphant! This is the joy of Easter, based in fact and bolstered by faith. And we are the heirs of this great joy. As we sing in the Easter psalm, This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. Christ is risen! Truly he is risen! Alleluia! THANK YOU: We would like to thank all who helped make this Holy Week and Easter a very special and spiritual time for our parish. There are many: the celebrants, our Deacon, our music ministry, our altar servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, our lectors, our ushers, member of the RCIA, our decorators of the church, those who had their feet washed, those who presented the holy oils, those who attended the liturgies and all others who help make these days a very special celebration. Thank You. As we approach the warmer months of the year, many of our parishioners are leaving or have left for their northern parishes. We would like to wish them well and look forward to see them and worship with them again next season. Thank you for supporting your winter Parish. SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE: We start our summer Mass schedule on the first Sunday of May, May 4. At that time our schedule will be: Saturday 4:00 PM and 5:45 PM; Sunday 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12 Noon and 4:00 PM (Spanish). ST. MARK: The feast of St. Mark is April 25. He is believed to be the young man who ran away when Jesus was arrested (Mark 14:51-52), and the John whose other name was Mark (Acts 12:25). He was a disciple of Saint Peter the Apostle who travelled with him to Rome, and was referred to as my son Mark. Mark is the son of Mary, whose house was a meeting-place for the Apostles, to which Saint Peter returned on his release from prison. He accompanied Saint Paul on his first apostolic journey. St. Mark travelled with his cousin Saint Barnabas, and with Saint Paul through Cyprus. He evangelized in Alexandria, Egypt, established the Church there, served as its first bishop, and was author of the earliest canonical Gospel. He was martyred in Alexandria, Egypt on April 25 in the year 68. His relics are in Venice, Italy. He is represented by a lion and is the patron of notaries, against lightning, and hail. FRANCISCAN CHAPTER: From May 5 to May 9 the Friars of the St. Anthony of Padua Province (Fr. Richard, Fr. Sam, and Fr. Germain belong to this Province) will meet together with the Friars of the Immaculate Conception Province in Buffalo, New York for a Chapter. A Chapter is a gathering of the Friars in which they meet to grow in fraternity, to pray, to reflect on the past few years and to plan the next years. At this Chapter the two provinces will become one province. We have been preparing for this union for the last four years. Our new Province will be called Our Lady of the Angels Province. The Friars will again be away from the parish during this time. We will have visiting priests from St. Vincent DePaul Seminary cover for the Friars. We will have the 8:00 AM Mass but will not have the 5:00 PM Mass during that week. We will have priests to celebrate funerals (if necessary), to cover the hospital and emergency calls. The second session of the chapter will be in August. At this session of the Chapter, plans and programs of the Province for the next four years will be discussed and new assignments will be decided. We ask that you pray for the Friars as they gather in Chapter and plan for the future. Just a reminder that you may still purchase raffle tickets for the Wednesday $ prize at the Parish Office. 4

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Friars, the staff and the parishioners of St. Mark for all their encouragement, help, and hard work to make the recent celebration of my 40th Anniversary of Priesthood such an uplifting experience not only for myself but also for my family and friends who journeyed to Boynton Beach from New England to be with " Uncle John", Fr. Jim, and the friars and priests who concelebrated the liturgy at the 4 p.m. Mass. The labors of the Steering Committee under the capable leadership of Veronica Comrie made my job easy: smile, greet visitors, shake hands, and give thanks to God for all His many blessings shown these past 40 years. I especially appreciate the hospitality the people of St. Mark parish showed to my family and friends. Thank you for all your gifts, especially the gift of kindness and understanding. The Lord's blessings on all of you for all you do to be His holy people. This Sunday after the 9:15 Mass we have our Annual Easter Egg Dash. For our youngsters only! We ask that all children wait for Father to come out after mass and not to take any eggs prior to that!! Thank you!! Gates open at 11:00AM TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The Lenten journey is now complete, its mission of renewal and preparation to receive new life fulfilled. The call to worship the Risen Lord has been received, and we gather to experience together the consoling presence of Christ in word and sacrament. We are at our best today, crowded and cramped to be sure, but the fullest sign of who we are meant to be. Christ has claimed us in the waters of baptism, we have acquired wonderful companions, and together we can accomplish great things. This is the day for rekindling the old flames of baptismal commitment, so we light the paschal candle, and by its light we make yet again the ancient promises to reject evil s grip and empty promises. Today we do not recite the Creed, but respond with one voice to ageold questions. New life has to be nurtured, both the life of the newly baptized and the renewed life of those who have passed through Lent s refining prayer, fasting, and giving alms.
