Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts! Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, Here am I; send me! 1

3 Psalm 29 The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendour. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon; He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord splits the flames of fire; the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe and strips the forests bare. And in the temple of the Lord all are crying, Glory! The Lord sits enthroned above the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king for evermore. The Lord shall give strength to his people; the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace. Let us pray. God of mystery and power, open our eyes to the flame of your love, and open our ears to the thunder of your justice, that we may receive your gifts of blessing and peace, to the glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 4 A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans (Chapter 8, Verses 12-17) So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, Abba! Father! it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Celebrant The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, according to John (Chapter 3, Verses 1-17) Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God. Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the 3

5 Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? Jesus answered him, Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 7 Our Announcements for the week of May 27, 2018 The Tabernacle Candle burns this week to the Glory of God, in honour of the Sacramental Presence of His Son Jesus Christ and in loving memory of Bill and Barbara Ockenden. Given by John & Chris Robson and their children. Flowers on the Altar today are given to the Glory of God and in memory of our much loved Mom and Gramma, Marian Lorraine Charters. Given by Terry and Jan, Christy and Bill & Carrie and Eric. Families to be remembered today are Carol Blaylock, Joanne Bodden, Michael and Elaine Bogoslowski, Lillian Bottrill and their families. FOOD FOCUS next week (June 3) will be Pet Food Thanks from the Outreach Committee Reverend Sheila s Schedule. Sheila will be away on vacation beginning May 28 th and then will be at the Clergy Conference from June 4 th 6 th. She will return to the office on June 7 th. Please contact the church office or the wardens with any pastoral emergencies. Sheila, we wish you sunny days and safe travels over the next few weeks! 6

8 THE TOONIE JAR is back out and donations are being collected for Camp Canterbury Hills and specifically for camperships. These allow children who would not be able to attend for financial reasons to have a camping experience. Please empty out that heavy change purse or pocket to send a child to camp this summer. Advance Voting Location May 26 May 30 Elections Ontario has use of the Fireside Room until the end of the day on May 30 th, as an advance voting location. Some programs are moved into the Parish Hall as needed and we need to avoid going into the room during voting hours if at all possible. Kindly move any items you will need during the week to another location. 7

9 PWRDF and Parish Kids & Youth Sunday Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. We are excited to team up with our Outreach Committee to share information about the amazing work of the Primate s World Relief and Development Fund on PWRDF Sunday at St. Michael s. Please save the date and plan to attend.and to our Parish Kids and Youth, please plan to participate! Following both services there will be a fund raising lunch for the PWRDF hosted by our Outreach Committee. are welcome to attend! 10 Volunteers Needed to Weave Mats On Fridays, beginning June 1st from 6-7:30 pm we will be meeting in the Fireside Room to weave milk bags into durable, sanitary sleeping mats. These will be donated both locally and internationally to those in need, offering them a clean dry mat to sleep on. There are lots of different jobs to do for people of all ages and abilities, no previous experience needed! Please join us for a time of fellowship and outreach to those in need. Christmas Bazaar Craft Supply Donation Envelopes Our Christmas Bazaar Elves are hard at work through the year creating, sewing, knitting and crocheting many of the beautiful items that fill the tables at the Christmas Bazaar. If you would like to donate some funds towards the purchase of craft supplies for our elves, there are envelopes available in the narthex. Please just enclose your donation and place the envelope on the offering plate. Keep the Lights Burning at St. Michael s!!! Support the Bill Payment Challenge The board is hanging in the narthex and there are tags for each month in amounts of $25.00 (yellow), $50.00 (orange) and $ (green). Your support last year was outstanding.more than $12, was given to help with the utility expenses for St. Michael s. We are hoping to reach that goal again, with your help. Choose any tag from the board and an envelope from the container on the table. Place your completed donation on the offering plate. Thanks for your support 9

11 Altar Flowers Placing flowers on the altar is a lovely way to celebrate a special anniversary, birthday or event in your life or to remember a loved family member or friend. The Flower Chart for 2018 is up in the narthex and many dates are still open. Please feel free to fill in dates for your flower donations. These photos don t do them justice Please take a moment to look at the gardens and give thanks for Al and Barb Olsen, who have been preparing and then planting many, many flowers over the past couple of weeks.including all the flowers from our Pentecost garden last Sunday. We are looking forward to watching everything grow and bloom over the summer! 10
