2 Pastor Bergelin s Message Dear Members and Friends of Trinity, Once again we are at that time of the year when all the fall start ups take place. The same is true for many activities here at church. Fall worship schedule, Sunday School, Sunday morning and weekday Bible classes, choir, organization, and on and on it goes. And of course we are all looking forward to the many opportunities we will have to work with and continue to get to know our new vicar, Dan Maske. I would draw your attention to the fact that all the above mentioned things and more have one underlying thing in common. They all involve God's word. We at Trinity have come to understand how essential it is to have a steady diet of God's word in our life. That word prepares us for each day of life on earth, and it prepares us for the life to come at our Savior's side in heaven. I would however remind you that the start up of all these things and more here at Trinity are of no benefit to the person who does not choose to take advantage of them. How about you? Will you this season be a part of and take advantage of all that your church has to offer? Consider this a personal invitation to grow in faith with your brothers and sisters in the faith. Everyone of us without exception has sinned and fallen short of the perfection God requires. But Jesus died for all, and the good news is that we are forgiven and are headed to eternal life in heaven. This gift is free and offered to all. When you hear that, does it do anything for you? Is it just a line you heard many times before, or does it bring such joy to your heart that you want hear and learn more about the Savior who has done so much for you. The invitation is "come." Let's live and grow in faith together this year. Serving the Savior, Pastor Darrel Bergelin 2

3 School is back in full swing again! Maybe it s been a few years since you sat down at a classroom desk, but I ll bet you still remember your favorite teacher. 2 nd grade was my favorite year of school because of my teacher, Mrs. Ladd. She knew all of her students so well, and she knew how to make learning exciting an exciting thing to do! As Christians, we are always learning about our God and His love for us in His Son Jesus. We have His perfect Word written down so that we may hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest His truth. God s lessons for us are new every day as we daily see how God provides for our needs. God is an exciting teacher, because He teaches in different ways. He gives us His Word, but He also teaches by His Holy Spirit, and by sending His Son to die and rise to teach us how great His love is for us. God is the greatest teacher of all, because He knows just how to teach us, His students! So, as we enter into a new season of learning, whether at school, work, or home, know that God, your teacher, loves you! He enjoys teaching us His love and truth. He comes alongside us to help us as we learn. Trust that God, your teacher and mine, has His students best interests at heart. Yours in Christ, Vicar Maske Vicar Maske s Message 3

4 Our Preschool has been in session about a month, and everything has been going well. We have 4 boys and one girl who attend either two or three days a week. We have been learning about creation, sin, and God s great love for us. We have Chapel every Thursday with Vicar Maske. We are learning to line up quietly, take turns, and share. We are especially enjoying the beautiful fall weather. We wish to thank the congregation for our beautful new floor which is so easy to clean when we spill things, and makes our room look so much brighter. We are also very grateful for the new security system which helps keep us safe. 4

Pastor Bergelin led us in a Bible Study. Elders Corner How elevated are our ego s? One way to tell is by asking How well do we take advice? It s that time of year when many are back in school or playing sports... the goal of course to learn from teachers and coaches. Are we humble enough to open our ears and minds to accept new knowledge and new skills? For those of us not in school or sports, what are our attitudes in the workplace? Are we also open to new ideas and new knowledge whether top down, bottom up, or from our peers? And what about our relationship with our spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, or friends in general? Do we have a greater need to be right and defend our ego s than seeking to understand their point of view? And what about our relationship with God? Do we think we know enough to skip church, avoid reading the Bible, or taking advantage of Bible class? Or are our ego s too big to admit we need help from God or to even acknowledge that it is He who is the source of ALL of our accomplishments? Of course it is many times much easier to see excessive pride in others versus ourselves. For example, we have seen examples of excessive pride in the recent political debates as candidates pump themselves up as they highlight their accomplishments. We have seen excessive pride in pregame or post-game interviews now that its college and pro football season again. We see it in the many conflicts engulfing our world today nations needing to be right, wanting their way. But when we take a hard look at ourselves what do we see? And to see clearly let s first pick the beam out of our own eye before taking out the speck in someone else s eye as the Bible advises. Furthermore, we can also ask for God s help. Dear Lord, help me overcome pride and selfishness. Grant me humility and the willingness to listen and seek knowledge and understanding, especially when it comes to learning more about your Word. In Jesus name, Amen. Proverbs 13:10 An empty head by his pride causes quarreling; but those who take advice are wise. 7
