JOSEPH FOOD PANTRY: NEW HOURS: The pantry is open on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 7:30PM for our neighbors in need (located in rectory conference room). Donations may be brought to Mass on Saturday/Sunday. Thank you for your support with all non-perishable food items and cash donations. Weekly Collection Report; November 3 & 4, 2018 Envelopes $ Loose $ Total $ Grand Annual Total to Date: $18, Our Grand Annual Goal is $50,000. Please prayerfully consider contributing to our parish Grand Annual campaign All Souls Envelopes; At each Mass celebrated throughout the month of November we will remember our loved one s in prayer. All Souls envelopes are available in your monthly envelope packet and in the pews of the church. The names will be left on the altar through November 30th. Book of Remembrance: During the month of November, we remember all our Faithfully Departed Loved Ones. A Book of Remembrance is available at the statue of St. Joseph. Please feel free to include your loved ones by name. Second Collection this weekend, Monthly Parish Maintenance. Thank you for your continued support Next weekend the Archdiocese will take up the Collection for Retired Sisters. Since 1988, the collection has provided needed financial support for religious communities who have served the Archdiocese of Boston as educators and health care and social service providers. 3 THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, May the Lord give us His peace. Allow me this moment to publicly thank Mr. Joe Stevens for his dedicated service to the community. For over a year and a half, Joe has faithfully cared for the members of St. John s, and more recently has been getting involved in the pastoral care ministry of our homebound parishioners at St. Joseph s. Joe will be leaving us to pursue his call to become a certified chaplain in health care ministry. Please keep Joe in your prayers. He has been a great blessing to our team! Please pray for the leadership of our Church, especially here in the United States. As you may know, the Bishops of the United States will be gathering in Baltimore, MD this week (12th-14th) to address the abuse crisis. During this assembly they will discuss and vote on a series of concrete measures to respond to the abuse crisis, including: the creation of a thirdparty reporting mechanism, standards of conduct for bishops, and protocols for bishops resigned or removed because of abuse. It is so sad that this evil continues to plague our Church today! There are no excuses! Lord have mercy on us! I wish to reiterate, Fr. Joseph, Fr. Arthur, Deacon Bill and I are here for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need to talk, vent or process. To be very honest, we (I can only speak for myself) share the disappointment, anger, and frustrations of many of you. We walk this road together, one day at a time, keeping our eyes on Jesus, our only Hope. I would like to take this moment to thank all those who have taken time to express their support and love for us, and to be a source of encouragement for our vocations. We have received very beautiful cards and s. We have had parishioners and fellow-catholics stop by to check in and see how we are doing. We have even been invited for dinner (thank you Mother Olga)! Thank you to everyone who has gone the extra step in these very difficult days. I think of St. Barnabas, whose name means Son of Encouragement. This nickname highlights his life: selfless service to one s neighbor and the community. Rather than allowing his frustrations take hold, he offered a gift of himself that blessed and built up the community. In the Acts of the Apostles we read how he: offered consolation to his fellow believers in times of affliction, organized a collection for a community that was struggling financially, stood by St. Paul and encouraged him to be a missionary leader, studied his faith and helped to build up the faith of new Christians, and traveled to gentile regions to share the Gospel with non-believers (to name a few of his activities). St. Barnabas made a difference. I humbly propose that all of us, according to our gifts and charisms, are called to be a Barnabas in our community; a SON or DAUGHTER of ENCOURAGEMENT. Truthfully, it is the Barnabas s in our midst that make our communities what they are! We are all in this ship together. Clinging to the Eucharist and our Blessed Mother, let us all ENCOURAGE ONE AN- OTHER. St Barnabas, pray for us! Your brother in Christ, Fr. Matt+ Our Annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service will take place at Quincy Point Congregational Church on Tuesday, November 20th 7:30 PM. St. Joseph s Parish will co-host with QPCC and special music of the season will be sung during the service by choirs of both Churches. Refreshments will be served, in the church hall, following the service. The Offering will support the ministry of St. Joseph s Food Pantry There will be bus service provided for residents of 1000 Southern Artery who wish to attend. East Wing pick up at 6:50, North Wing pick up at 7:00 PM. Return 9:00 PM. Please join us in celebration and thanksgiving. All are welcome! Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time; We have two different stories of widows who gave everything they had. When Jesus spoke about the widow at the treasury, he said she contributed all she had...." Time, talent, and treasure are pillars of stewardship. Do you use your time to help others? Do you put your talent at the service of the parish or community? Do you freely make sacrifices, not giving what is left-over at the end of the week? Do you willingly share the greatest gift your witness to God s love? This week find a way to share your time, talent, treasure - and your story.

4 NOVEMBER 11, 2018 Now more than ever, our priests, seminarians and those contemplating the call to serve Our Lord need our prayers. Here a St Joseph Parish we have a way for you to do your part to support these men who have proven to be our good shepherds and those in training or contemplating the call to be a good shepherd. The vocation crucifix is available to be signed out by individuals or families for one week. Take it home and pray the vocation prayer daily. The sign up sheet is in the entrance of the church. The process is easy. Choose your week, sign the sheet. When your week arrives pick up the crucifix in the sacristy when you come to mass. Please return the crucifix to the sacristy before the 4 pm mass on Saturday so it will be available for the next person. Do you know of anyone, maybe yourself, who may be interested in becoming a Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is designed for non-catholics who may be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and perhaps becoming a Catholic, by preparing for and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Adults who were baptized as Roman Catholics, but did not receive further catechetical formation, and consequently did not receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist are also candidates for this program.
