I know thee family was very happy to have us there. My thanks also go out to all of you whoo make a point to come to the regularr Assembly meetings as well. We all have a stake in this Assembly, and every voice is needed! Some of you may not yet know that we are investigating thee potential of hosting an event to award Medals of Appreciationn to Knights in our feeder Councils who are Veterans of thee Vietnam era, which is to officially include all who servedd between 1955 and If you have any Veterans in yourr Councils who fit this criteria, please ask them if they might bee amenable to such an event. The DAR, Daughters of thee American Revolution, would do the awarding ceremony, whilee we will provide the facility, hosting responsibilities and Honorr Guard. We await your response, gentlemen. Michael WalkerCell: Faithful Navigator kwaknet33@sbcglobal.net CAPTAIN S CORNER Fellow Sir Knights As you all may have heard, in a ruthless attack of senseless violencee the Dallas Police Department lost five police officers on July 7, What you may not know is that one of those officers, Patrick Zamarripa a was a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church. His connection to his faith and his community was strong. My wife and her family had known him and his family for years. In fact, my wife s grandmother babysat him while his mother worked, and my wife s brother also named Patrick, graduated d with him from Paschal High School in This Fort Worth native was only 32 years old, and he was engaged to hiss high school sweetheart. He had a two- year-old daughter and a seven-year-oldd stepson. Unfortunately, I did not attend his rosary or funeral, but myy wifee and son met with his family at Greenwood Funeral Home. There myy wifee found out that Patrick hadd intended on becoming a Knight, but diedd beforee he could join. Fatherr Stephen Jasso, TOR, pastor of All Saints Catholic Church, presided overr Zamarripa s rosary on July 15 th, andd Bishop Michael Olson presidedd over hiss funeral service on July 16th. Bothh were held at Wilkerson-Greines Athleticc Center in Fort Worth and televised onn WFAA Channel 8. Brothers, I am asking that ourr Assembly remember Patrick Zamarripaa and the other four officers who lost their lives protecting the people of Dallas by kneeling in prayer andd asking for an end to senselesss violence. When faced with difficult moments wee must always come together andd support each other and ask God too strengthen our faith. Adrian Romero, Sr.Cell: Faithful Captain CHAPLAINS CORNERR A Honk from the Padre! At the present time Honor Flight is choosing veterans from World War II and thee Korean War era time frames. I served during the Korean War timee frame, so what an honor that I was one of the forty veterans who was chosen for Honor Flight DFW #30. The Honor Flight flew me, my guardian Chuck Beare (my nephew), 399 other veterans, guardians and Honor Flight volunteers to Washington, D. C. We backed away from the gate at Dallas Love Field, and as we got to the end of the first August 2016 Newsletter Page 2

At the Baltimore airport we weree greeted by another Honor Flight which was waiting to return home. They broke out in applause as did many of the travelers and vendors that were in the airport. We boardedd our two tour buses, and soon we arrived at the World War II Monument where we spent about an hour in the pouring rain. Just before we left the it, taps were played by an active duty soldier, and a hush came over the crowd. Then we went to the Vietnam Memorial. As we went along the wall of the Vietnam Memorial we found two young men down on their hands and knees looking for someone thatt had made the ultimate sacrifice. We still had an hour, so we walked to the Lincoln Memorial. There were a lot of children at the Memorial who came up to say, "thank you for your service." This happened during the whole trip, which was very emotional and humbling. We ended our first day with a real nice sit- down banquet. Before dinner we had thee posting of the colors by an Honor Guard, andd sangg our national anthem. After dinner was over, we had a powerful explanation of thee missing man at one of the small banquet tables. After that each veteran was given a certificatee stating that we had taken part in Honor Flight DFW #30, along with a special coin with all thee branches of service stamped on the coin. It was a beautiful sunny day as a volunteer motorcycle escort leadd the Honor Flight buses to the Arlingtonn National Cemetery. Our first stop was the Tombb of the Unknown Soldier. The changing of thee guard ceremony was very impressive. Myy nephew and I were permitted to go to Chaplainn Hill. I have known very well over the years some of the chaplains buried there, so I prayedd and gave our Lord's blessing to alll my felloww Chaplains resting on Chaplain Hill. From there we visited the new Air Forcee Memorial with beautiful spiralss reachingg hundreds of feet into the sky. There were manyy plaques there giving the early history of thee Army Air Corp until the present time. Just before we departed, we had a flyby with Marinee One, the helicopter that carries the President. As we got to the Korean Memorial, an awesome memorial shaped like a horseshoe, it began to rain again. Before leaving another soldier played taps for us. From there we went to the Bolling Air Forcee Base to listen to a concert put on by the Air Force Band. The band members were dressed inn the WWII era Army Air Corp uniforms, and thee theme of the concert was from the Glen Miller August 2016 Newsletter Page 3

era. I got to dance with the MC of the concert; her name was Captain Armstrong.

As busy as we all are even as we get older, we can use a reminder once in a whilee about God's great gift of Mercy to us. I havee noticed that some of the daily readings in thee Magnificat in September as well as August givee reference to the great mercy God has for his people and how generously he distributes that mercy to us. We sometimes do not even realizee we are receiving God's mercy at the time. Howw many of us has at some time witnessedd someone receiving mercy from God, but they at a the time did not realize it. An accident, a housee fire,, a plane crash, an auto wreck on thee freeway and for some unknown to man reasonn there are survivors of each incident. We weree taught at an early age that God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all merciful, and even today wee are reminded of his mercy in the Gospels. How do we take this mercy; do we keep it, use it, hide it, or do we share it and pass it alongg to our neighbors? Pope Francis tells us to share, show mercy to one another; he is telling us just what God tells us every day. How do we showw mercy? Consoling, comforting, and helpingg withh ones grieving are good positive ways of showing mercy. So as we start this second half of 2016, let us ask for God's mercy, thank him for showing us his mercy, and ask him to help us to always show Mercy to one another. Many Blessings to All! Donald W.
