2 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S COMPASS Hello Sir Knights Ladies, I want to talk to you about something that has been on my heart, our Health. You know all of us are not of High School age, back when something would happen we would get hurt, but then in a short amount of time we would heal back to normal. That is not what happens anymore, now we have lingering aches that don't seem to go away fast. Our minds say it is nothing but our bodies tells us different. I look I see my mentors go down with illness, some after time are back in the swing of things, while some try to come back sooner than they should it costs them a relapse. So I am asking all of us whoever can read this Newsletter to please take a step back take care of yourself better than you have been doing. At work every week I have meetings with my crew about safety, I tell them if they don't put themselves first on being safe how can they think others will be more safe to them. Your health falls in that category; if you don't take time to put your health first in your mind how can you truly say I' ll be alright don' t worry. If you feel ill, go to the Doctor do what they ask for your own sake; I am talking to not just old Adults but young Adults as well. And never feel you are not worthy to be put on the Prayer list, for Prayer is a tool for all of us as your friends to help with. I love being a Knight I dislike seeing those before me or even those who have come behind me not take care of themselves. I thought like some of you do didn't go to the Doctor as I should, then something happened d now you cannot keep me from myy annual visits believe me I followw instructions.. As your Faithful Navigatorr I have been a big billboard of ann invitation asking all to do your share too be the best Knight for your Ladiess to participate more. This Month, I am inviting you all to take better care of yourselves stay as healthy ass possible. Let us all give Thanks to the Lord forr the Blessings we all have received, d as always LET S CONTINUE TO PRAY FORR ONE ANOTHER. SK Tommy Jones, Sr. Home: Faithful Navigator Cell: tsr. A D M IRAL S SWOR D Sir Knights Ladies, Most family vacations, as I grew up, involvedd towing a 10-ft. Lincraft camping trailer pulledd behind a blue Fordd station wagon to local reservoirs, state, national parks forr days of fishing. My father was a policee officer my mother did not workk outside the home until Dad retired. Hee worked extra jobs to afford the camper: working for a glass company installingg shower doors on the weekends orr replacing broken windows, workingg security, or repairing small engines. When Dad s three weeks of summerr vacation arrived, it was quite an event. Mom Dad would load four kids intoo the loaded station wagon, towing a fullyy loaded trailer, drive for 10 or 12 hours, then try to find a place to park thee trailer for the night. Dad s left arm February 2016 Newsletter Page 2
3 hanging out the window of the wagon would burn, tan, then become the color of beef jerky by the time we arrived at the west coast two days later. Along the way we were feasting on homemade swiches generic br soda the only time we had soft drinks that I can recall. We played license tag bingo, read books, anxiously watched for any wildlife or domestic animals that might help spice up the scenery. We did not have ipads, ipods, or iphones, but we did play I spy occasionally. When we stopped for the night, our routine was always the same. Dad would pull up to the space where he maneuvered the trailer into the perfect spot, generally guided by Mom as the surrogate back up camera. While he parked leveled the trailer, the children s task was to police the areaa pick up any trash left by our predecessors. I recalll resenting the fact that we were cleaning up after others because I knew we also had to leave the areaa spotless. It did not seem fair that we had to clean up after ourselves after others. As barely a teenager, I was complaining about this unfairness to myself when my Dad caught the drift of what I was mumbling about. Here is the point to this trip down memory lane. My Dad, with the tolerance of a Saint, explained that he believed it was better to leave a place better than he found it. He wanted us kids to learn that lesson. The campsite cleanup was a simple metaphor for us to apply the rest of our lives. After that, I no longer grumbled about picking up after others. The lesson was so simple, so universal, so ignored by many. Litter is one test of whether we care about others. Litter comes in many February 2016 Newsletter forms. Debris along the highway iss obvious, but so are the effects of lack of kindness, disrespect, indifference, d laziness. Someone must clean up thee litter that other people leave behind, or itt will bury us. Thank God for the Knights! Ourr principals off charity, fraternity, unity, patriotism are the anecdote for a society content to wallow in pleasuree seeking, intolerance, egocentric lifee styles. Knights use their moral compasss to lead others away from the litter d into the light. Our to do list includess helping the less fortunate, helping eachh other, helping our clergy, helpingg our country. We will leave this worldd better than we found it. SK Bruce Mallory Home: Faithful Admiral Cell: CAPTAIN S CORNER Fellow Sir Knights Here we are at thee halfway mark in thee fraternal year. We havee had some fine functionss already, which manyy brother Knights havee not partaken in. This month we havee our annual Ladies Appreciation dinner. Thiss social is the one where we thankk our wonderful wives for supporting ourr fraternal activities. I implore all of you, to participate in this activity for d with your spouse, to make her feel thatt she is a special part of all this. This year s event will be at La Chozaa Finee Food. It is a wonderful Mexicann food establishment, relatively new too the area, is a cut above. It iss located in Lakeside at 7001 Confederatee Park Road, #106, off of Jacksboroo Highway. Menu is a choice of Fajitaa Nachos, Chicken or Beef Enchiladas, Page 3
4 Chicken or Beef Fajitas, or their famous Cowboy Plate! Date of the event will be Sunday, February 21 st, the event is scheduled for 5pm. They normally aren't open on Sundays, but we are special, so they will be open only for us! Map is enclosed in this newsletter r. Please attend this function. Show your Lady that she is a part of the Assembly! RSVP as we must have total head count no later than the 17 th. Please pay the stardd $20 a head at the General Meeting the 17 th, if at all possible. SK Michael Walker Cell: Faithful Captain kwaknet33@sbcglobal.net Historic Turnpike Mass of 2016! As you may have heard, buses full of Catholic pro-life students going home after the March for Life in Washingtonn D.C. got stuck on the Pennsylvaniaa Turnpike because of a blizzard. While they were waiting they constructed an altar out of snow held Mass on the side of the highway! Some peoplee nicknamed the spot the St. John Paul the Great hillside chapel. Chaplains Corner December 12, A Honk from the Padre! I've heard of Christmas in July but havee you ever heard of Christmas in October?? Well, I'll give it a shot. I need to write myy Honk early for the good of our outstingg group. I've celebrated Christmas in fivee different countries it is always a veryy special time of the year. The wholee atmosphere that we live in begins too change. We begin to notice, shortly afterr Thanksgiving,, Christmas lights d decorations are going up, outdoorr Christmas trees goingg up in Sundancee Square, the Plaza in New York City d other city centers across the world. It's just a lovely time of the year. Even though it iss now only October, my sister, Mary, saidd last night as we were coming into Ft. Worthh from the east, "well, Jer, soon these high- rise buildings will be all decorated withh Christmas lights". Soo the real word is that Christmas iss really around the corner. Soon I will bee getting out my flower list. Each Christmass Easter I send a nice flowerr arrangement to a few of my close friends. Sad to say my flower list gets shorterr almost every year because Our Lord hass called another one of my friends to theirr eternal home. Soon I will be asking my sister what shee would like for Christmas. She hardly everr askss for much but sometimes she gives mee a few ideas. Then too we have two piggyy banks for my nephew's children, one is 144 years old the other is 5 years old. Wee try to put at least $5 a month in each bankk we give the boys that money at Christmas time. Last but not least I'll bee reading over the scriptures for Christmass Eve Christmas day. On the Catholic/Christian side of thee house we have what we call the Advent Season. It happens four weeks beforee Christmas or sometimes we refer to it ass the Four Sundays of Advent. The wordd advent means to come... so it is a February 2016 Newsletter Page 4
5 time for preparing the way of the Lord. For me it is an exciting time of the year as I prepare for his coming on 25 December Jesus is such a special person to me... such a special friend. As a Padre this is the 48th time I have tried to get ready for him. Each year is different because of where I am with Our Lord, his people the changing world in which I live. How Our Lord is able to tune in to me in such a special, way is hard for me to grasp, but I do try to wrap my arms around the whole reality. I think feel it is good for all of us to realize how the gentle Jesus tunes in to each of us according to the special needs we all have. So, what do I want to give for a Christmas gift? Years ago when some of us did a lot of Christmas cards, Hallmark had an ad it said "When you care enough to send the best, send a Hallmark!" I encourage you me to send the very best to our relatives, friends strangers the gift of yourself. It doesn't have to be much, the gift of a kind word, a smile or a simple "thank you" is a great gift to another person. I would like to sum up my Christmas in October with that "One Solitary Life": He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman He grew up in still another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty Then for three years he was an itinerant preacher He never wrote a book, He never held an office He never had a family or owned a home He didn't go to college, He never visited a big city He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where he was born He did none of the things one usually associates with greatness He had no credentials but himself He was only thirty-three when the tide of public opinion turned against Him His friends ran away He was turned over to his enemies went through the mockery of a trial He was nailed to a cross between two thieves While He was dying His executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend Twenty centuries have come gone, today He is the central figure of the human race the leader of human progress All the Armies that ever marched All the Navies that ever sailed All the Marines that ever served All the Air Forces that ever flew All the Parliaments that ever sat All the kings that ever reigned All our Presidents that ever served When all are put together they have not affected the life of men, women, children down through the Centuries as much as that "One Solitary Life!" I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas a Holy, Happy New Year with thoughts a prayer for you, your families your friends. May the Gentle Christ, the Gentle Lord bless you. Suggested Scripture readings: IS: 9:1-6 TIM 2:11-14 Luke 2:1-14 With thoughts a prayer for you, may the gentle Christ Bless you. Padre Jerry Ward Fr. Jerome Ward, (Lt. Col USAF Ret.) Editor s Note: This letter was not received in time for the December newsletter, so am including it now, in time for your Lenten consideration. February 2016 Newsletter Page 5
