HISTORIAN Lonnie Brown PFN PARLIAMENTARIAN Lawrence Bierschenk PFN GWA 1089 November 2014 NEWS FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S COMPASS Fellow Sirr Knights and Ladies, Faithful Captain Sir Knight Tommy Joness and Ladyy Donna organized a very successful FIRST ANNUAL WELCOMING SOCIAL to honorr our new Sir Knights and their Ladies and too introducee them to the rest of the Assemblyy on Saturday, November 1 st. Over sixty Sirr Knights, Ladies, and Clergy, including 15 of out 18 new SKss and Ladies, enjoyed a private Mass at St Thomas the Apostlee Catholic Church, celebrated by Faithful Friar SK Jerry Ward. This was followed in the Knights Hall by a delicious salmonn and beef dinner catered by Tootsies Wildflower Cateringg along with spirited fellowship. We owe special recognitions to Past Master SK Joe Laa Barbara for donating hiss black handled KofC sword to thee assembly for a raffle. Faithful Pilot SK Michael Walker did a great job selling raffle tickets for the sword, and a few otherr donatedd mementoes raising $300. Fundraisers, like raffles, enable the assembly to invite Widows of Sir Knights andd clergy as our guests while keeping the per person pricee manageable for our members. Our special appreciation goes out to those Sir Knightss that served in the military as we celebrate Veterans Dayy November 11. We are able to enjoy our freedoms today, because of your service and sacrifice. CCCC SK Tommy Jones arranged for our Assembly ss participation in the Fort Worth Veterans Day Parade. Pleasee see his article for details. We will celebrate ourr annual Memorial Mass at 10:000 am Thursday, November 27,, Thanksgiving Day, at Carmelite Monastery Chapel, 5801 Mt. Carmel Drive, Arlington, TX Fr. Angel Infante, T.O.R., the Pastor of All Saints Catholic Church is the recipient of the Memorial Chalice. He willl pray for our fallen brother SK s when using the cup. Frank Svacinaa holds particular significance to me since, in 1992, he was the Charter Grand Knight for Fr. Emil Gerlich Council 10930, the council where I held the GK position decades later. Frank had a king-size by the octogenariann wearing a cheese before Mass when his beloved Packers were playing. personality, which he demonstrated Congratulations to Sir Knight Charles Hill for his election to the position of Outside Sentinel at our last Business Meeting. Charles will serve, like all officers, until June 30, We are only months away from the officer nomination process for the year; if you have any interest in serving as an officer, please inform one of the trustees so we can make sure you are considered. The same goes for any Sir Knight currently serving as an officer who wishes to withdraw at the end of this term. Faithful Scribe SK Ron Harris is doing a terrific job as editor of our WORTH READING publication. Having an interesting newsletter with photos and relevant information enables much better communication among our Assembly members. Now if we could just get everyone too read it! (You know who you are!) Arrangements for General Worth ss Christmas party are underway. Myy understanding is thatt it will be the first weekend in December. Please attendd the regular Assembly Business Meetingg at 7:30pm Wednesday, November 19, at Msgr. Joseph G O Donohue Council Hall, 3809 Yucca Ave, Fort Worth, too hear the final details and to sign up. But, all of those who are unable too attend that meeting will need to RSVPP to Tommy at his contact informationn following the Captain s Corner below. HONOR GUARDS 2 Standings with 99 Members 17 Honor Guards with 85 members in Regalia and 32 in Tux 1 ST T ANNUAL WELCOMING SOCIALL New Sirr Knights and their Ladies In orderr to better initiate andd integrate all of our new Sir Knights andd their Ladies into the fabric and life of our Assembly, we have inaugurated a new annual WELCOMING SOCIAL to thee Events Calendar of General Worthh Assembly, targeted to happen about one month after the Exemplification. Thiss event replaces the one that wass eliminated when we elected to combinee Officer Installation and Awardss Banquets into one event. This year we were blessed to havee thiss event fall on a Holy Day, Saturday, November 1 s st, so, we assembled for ann All Souls Mass at 6:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Followingg thiss Mass, we moved into thee Parish/Knight Hall to enjoy a time of fellowship before being seated for a delicious catered meal, which wass followed by a brief program to acquaint the 15 of our 18 new Sir Knights whoo attended with their Ladies to ourr Assembly life, functions, calendar, etc., and also introduce them to us. 4 We had an outstanding turnout of about 67 for this event, and we hope that this will successfully integratee these new recruits into the life of the Assembly, so that each one will becomee faithful participants in the meetings, events and our Color Corp, and that they will also desire to serve as officers. ST. THOMAS GROUND BREAKING Bishop and Sir Knight Michael Olson officiated at the Ground Blessingg and Ground Breaking Ceremony for thee new St. Thomas the Apostle Church onn Saturday, November 8. We are proud too have our Bishop Olson as a member of. Sept Class of New Sir Knights in 1089 A dozen Sir Knights in full regaliaa supported this milestonee event attended by hundreds of parishionerss and clergy. Sir Knights in regalia alsoo served as lectors and ushers, as well ass serving on the building committee. Faithful Navigator Bishop SKK Michael Olson, Father SK Matheww Kavipurayidam, TOR, and FN SK Brucee Mallory, shared a three-handled shovel to memorialize this event.
