The charge was made, by Dave Hegan, columnst for a local newspaper, and was admtted by M..T. offcals. Accordng to Hegan, who s wdely known for hs sensatonal exposes, the nsttute pays outrght stpends of as much as $2000 yearly to ts stars of the grdron, damond, and basketball court. n addton, athletes are pad hgh salares to perform such dutes as runnng around the block, sweepng the Voo Doo offce after beer partes, etc. Scholastc standards for athletes are also drastcally reduced, t was learned. M..T. offcals, whle admttng the charges, clamed that they were forced to take ths acton on athletcs, due to heavy pressure on the part of alumn and of the corporaton.
