2 Parish News Religious Education News We need catechists! Our religious education program will be using Chosen by Ascension Press for the Confirmation preparation program. The new program engages our students while discussing important questions Catholic teens frequently ask or struggle with such as, How do I know God is real? ; Why be Catholic? ; and Why has God chosen me? This is an exciting time to become a catechist for our 7th & 8th grade students in Religious Education as they begin the new Confirmation program! Contact the office of R.E. for more information about our new program and becoming a catechist! Schedule Change The Religious Education new class schedule will be: - Saturday mornings, 9:00 to 10:30am for Kindergarten - 6th grade - Tuesday evenings, 5:00 to 6:30pm for 1st - 6th grade - Tuesday nights, 7:00 to 8:30pm for 7th & 8th grade The new schedule will allow for some amazing changes to the program such as clergy members being able to visit and interact with the students and music ministers will be able to assist with preparation for family Masses. Class service projects, craft activities, as well as music will be done in larger meeting spaces rather than the confines of the class room. The Religious Education program is looking for catechists to teach grades Kindergarten through Third grade on Saturday mornings & First and Second grade on Tuesday evenings. Please contact the office of Religious Education at or qasreoffice@qasparish.org if you are interested in volunteering as a catechist. We had two wonderful receptions last Sunday. One was our first event for babies who were baptized at QAS during the past year. Eight precious babies came and brought their families. Thanks to Lauren Berke and the women of Elizabeth Ministry for providing the delicious spread for these important guests, for setting up and for hosting with some of the Baptism Preparation Team, and for cleaning up too! The other reception was our celebration and expression of gratitude to Father Tom for his seven years of service to the Lord and his people at QAS. Thanks to Patti O Donnell who chaired the preparation and to the generous members of QASPA, WAX, Elizabeth Ministry, FACA and Social Justice Ministry who provided the food and beverages. Thanks too to the students who offered service during the reception. Thanks especially to Mary Lackinger who provided the awesome sheet cakes with our messages of thanks and blessings for Father Tom. Father Tom deserved the best and with all of the people who helped, he got it! 2 Queen of All Saints Basilica Chicago, IL
3 Parish News Temporary Morning Mass Schedule Change From June 18 to 21, all priests of our archdiocese will convene for what is known as a priests convocation - a retreat away from the day-to-day responsibilities of their parish and a time to gather together, to grow in discipleship of Jesus Christ, to build community together as we labor in his vineyard and to inspire each other to greater witness for the salvation of souls. The meeting theme One in Christ highlights that everything we are striving towards through our Renew My Church efforts to renew the Archdiocese of Chicago begins with our priests and the brotherhood they share. Therefore, there will be only one weekday Mass at 8:30 a.m. in the Basilica, June QAS YOUTH MINISTRY July 23rd July 27th - Week of summer service. qasym@qasparish.org for more information. Congratulations to Rupie Ramos for being accepted into the Archdiocese Pastoral Youth Council. Mr. Ramos is one of the few selected from our Vicariate who will report to Cardinal Cupich quarterly about teenage engagement with Catholic life in the contemporary culture. Wedding Banns Meaghan Dooley & Christopher Zuniga Semi-Retired? Retired? Open the Doors of Your Heart! The Ignatian Volunteer Corps may be for You! Currently there is a temporary substitute in place. Work on the bell tower will begin later this year. Is it time to join your fellow parishioners who have already made the move to electronic giving? If you are a registered parishioner, please come into the rectory during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. If it is not possible for you to come into the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated two or three Sundays of the month, depending on the time of year, at 1:30 PM - call the rectory for the exact schedule. A Baptismal Preparation class for the parents is required. They are held once a month and must also be scheduled in advance. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests. The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica. Couples from Queen of All Saints seeking marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage. The couple must meet with one of the priests before the date for the marriage can be confirmed. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him/her to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may properly receive this sacrament. Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 10,
