Phil Dabney CSsR for the kick off event of our new Marriage Enrichment Ministry at OLMC. Join us on Friday, October 18 th, at 7pm in St. Michael Hall. Saturday, October 26 9:00 a.m. ~ 4:30 p.m. This is a one-day conference for all men over 18 to come together for a day of fellowship, prayer, and learning. The conference will feature multiple breakout sessions, Mass, Reconciliation, moving testimonies, and expo area with several different vendors and ministries available. This will be held on Saturday, October 26, at the Richmond Convention Center. 3 Page 3 October 13, 2013 Children s Faith Formation People of Faith Children meets this Sunday, October 13, at St. Michael Hall from 8:45 until 9:45am. Children gather with same aged peers and a Catechist once per month. Please have your child bring his/her Pflaum book and the Gospel Weeklies. Parents are invited to attend the Coffee & Scripture Gospel Reflection for parents at the same time in St. Michael Hall. Children s Liturgy of the Word is celebrated at the 10am liturgy. Children ages 4 to 8 are invited to gather in the Daily Mass Chapel during the liturgy to listen to and participate in the Liturgy of the Word in a way that is relevant to their young lives. They return to their family before the celebration of the Eucharist. No registration is necessary. Junior & Senior Youth Groups Senior Youth Group Our next meeting is THIS Sunday, October 13 th at 5:17pm at St. Michael Hall for the 2 nd Annual Ask A Priest Night. We welcome back Fr. John David to SYG as he answers your burning questions about Faith, Life and the Catholic Church. See you there! Middle School Youth Rally Are you a middle school youth with high energy and a love for the Catholic faith? Enjoy meeting new people and having fun? Sacraments Baptisms Baptisms at OLMC are celebrated throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to register in the parish and to attend a baptism preparation session. First Sacrament Preparation The First Reconciliation Workshop will be held at St. Michael Hall on Sunday, October 20, from 11:15am-1:45pm. Parent and child should attend together. Children must be registered before attending the session. The at home study materials were handed out at the Parent Orientation as well as the Sacrament Booklet with dates and home assignments. Contact Christa in the parish office for more information or to register. Confirmation The Rite of Recognition and Call to Confirmation will take place next Sunday, October 20 th, during the 4pm Mass. Please be at the church at 3:30pm to check in with Christina in the Daily Mass Chapel to receive instructions. Our second Confirmation session will take place on October 27 th in St. Michael Hall at 11:15am. Young Adult Ministry IGNITE will meet on Monday, October 14 th, in the Youth Room at 7pm. Come for an evening of prayer, personal reflection and fellowship. All young adults, ages 18-35, single and married are invited to attend. Theology on Tap - Attention all Young Adults, ages 18-35! Join us for Theology on Tap on Tuesday, October 15 th, at 7pm at El Tapatio (615 Thimble Shoals Blvd) in/near City Center in Newport News. Fr. Inclusive Ministries SPRED Open House (Special Religious Development) prepares persons with intellectual disabilities to fully belong in the liturgical life of the parish. Catechists welcome their friends into a small faith community where the Word of God is shared through symbolic catechesis. OLMC currently has two SPRED groups (for adults 22 and older) that meet on Wednesday evenings. The SPRED model also provides opportunities for children and adolescents to grow in faith through a similar process within a SPRED group of their peers. Our mission is to coordinate with other parishes in our area to offer SPRED to those of all ages who seek to grow in faith through friendship in a very welcoming and peaceful environment. We are packing away the spring/summer clothing and we will be unpacking the fall/winter clothing to be passed out to children 0-2 yrs through our Pregnancy Outreach ministry. This is a BIG job. How can you help? Please make the switch with your clothing donations for the fall/winter season and hold onto your spring/summer clothing. Due to space constraints, we cannot access the spring/summer clothing once it is packed away. We thank you so much for all your support! Ordination of Deacons Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish is blessed to have 3 parishioners being ordained as Permanent Deacons for the Diocese of Richmond. The Ordinations will take place in Richmond at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on SATURDAY, OCTO- BER 19 TH, at 10:30 am. OLMC will provide our parish buses for Transportation. Please call the parish office to reserve a space. The bus will leave the parking lot at 8:00 am to assure Cathedral Seating. Come, celebrate the Ordination of FRANCISCO ANLEU, DAVE DWYER, AND GUILLERMO GONZALEZ! A reception will follow the ordination at Shafer Court, VCU next to the Cathedral. Coat Collection St. Monica s Guild s annual coat collection for the homeless and those in need will be held the weekend of October 26 th & 27 th. We will also be collecting sweaters, sweatshirts, scarves, gloves and hats. Items need to be gently used and clean, please! A container will be in the Commons for your items. Community News Cars and Stars: Chili Cook Off Please join the Knights of Columbus for a night of family fun! Saturday, October 19 th, 6:00pm-10:00pm at the K of C Hall on Nettles Drive Kids will enjoy a double feature of Disney's Cars and Cars 2 on a 12 ft, outdoor movie screen. We will serve pizza and popcorn. Be sure to bring your sleeping bag or lawn chair, and enjoy Cars under the Stars. Adults will bring their best chili in a 9½ x 12 disposable aluminum tray (we will provide Sterno) to be judged for a $50 cash prize to the best chili! We will provide cheese and other chili toppings. Please bring anything else you wish to serve with your chili to set it apart from the rest. Of course, adult beverages served as well. SACRAMENTOS PARA ADULTOS CONFIRMACIÓN Y PRIMERA COMUNIÓN. Nos estamos reuniendo los días martes a las 7 de la noche para aprender sobre nuestra fe y completar los sacramentos de iniciación, ven, date una oportunidad de conocer y se te gusta te puedes quedar con nosotros para el programa. Si no te gusta, no tienes que quedarte, solamente date la oportunidad de intentarlo. Recolección de Abrigos: La recolección anual de abrigos para las personas sin hogar, y todos los que lo necesiten, realizada por el gremio de Santa Mónica, será llevada a cabo el fin de semana del 26 y 27 de Octubre.
