1 WELCOME FR. MARCIN SZCZYPULA OUR NEW PASTOR

2 PASTOR S COLUMN 2 HAPPY 4 th OF JULY TO ALL OF YOU! Dear parishioners of Divine Infant Jesus, I feel so blessed and very excited to officially begin as a pastor in our faith community. I pray for you, asking to pray for me, as we start this spiritual journey together. This Wednesday, as a nation, we will celebrate the Independence Day. It is very important, beautiful, and meaningful celebration. We give thanks to almighty God for the gift of independence and freedom. When I think about independence, I also think about it in very spiritual way and I have on my mind one my favorite saints, Saint John Paul II, who once said: Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought. Saint Pope John Paul II Let s celebrate! I am always excited when 4 th of July is approaching. This time is very special for me, because for the first time I will celebrate this feast day with you in Westchester. I am looking forward to celebrate morning Mass that day and then participate in a parade. I have already received an invitation to ride with Sister Susan in the same golf car. On July 4 th, I ask you to pray for our country, the United States of America! Please, pray for all leaders who make important decisions, our soldiers and their families, our veterans whom we appreciate so much! Please, pray for the repose of the souls for those who sacrificed their lives for this Beautiful Land! HAPPY 4 th OF JULY!!! Enjoy the day & be safe!! With the gift of prayer! Your new pastor, Fr. Marcin Szczypula

4 PARISH INFORMATION 4 MORE THANK YOUS Last week I wrote that I thought was my final bulletin article a Thank You for all of you. This week Father Marcin Szczypula begins his pastorate. But I need to say two more Thank Yous. The first is for Father Jim Beath. He was given to us as a temporary associate this past January. After six months he is receiving another assignment. We are grateful for his presence among us. I was ready to reduce our Mass schedule until he came. Besides always being available to help with Mass I will remember the Liturgy of the Hours he organized and presided over for Holy Week. This was very uplifting. He enjoyed being with us at Divine Infant. Father Jim loved to engage people in conversation and was friendly to all. May God bless him in his new assignment. My other thank You goes to Jerry Priore. For the past six years he has been our parish business manager. He will be stepping down from that role July 19. I remember when I was first ordained, the pastor was the business manager. He never did baptisms, weddings or funerals. He kept the books, wrote the checks, negotiated with contractors, and supervised parish maintenance. I told myself I never wanted to be a pastor because I would no longer do anything pastoral! What a blessing when we started having business managers, so pastors could be free to do priest work. We are grateful for Jerry for all he has done for our parish. God be with him as he slows down his own pace. God s blessing be upon these fine gentlemen! Father Mike Ahlstrom P.S. My new contact information: Rev. Michael Ahlstrom St. Barbara Parish House 4008 Prairie Ave. Brookfield, IL mahlstrom@archchicago.org HOLY HOUR THIS FRIDAY There will be a Holy Hour in Church at 7:30pm this Friday, July 6. Please join us in prayer. PETER S PENCE Next week, we will take the Peter s Pence Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Please be generous. For more information, visit 4TH OF JULY PARADE It is that time of year again, and Divine Infant needs your help. I am calling on all staff, students, school families and parishioners to join us in this year s 4th of July parade. Our participation in the Parade last year received an overwhelming positive response from those who attended the Parade. This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our Catholic Pride, sense of Community and family unity that comes along with being a part of the Divine Infant Family. Please consider walking with us in the Parade on July 4th. We will start assembling at 8:30am, and the Parade will begin at 9:30am. Once we begin the walk, it will last approximately one hour from start to finish. For those who aren t physically able to walk the distance, but would like to participate in the Parade please let me know, we will have golf carts and cars to ride in. We encourage you wear your DI spirit wear, athletic uniform of gym uniforms. We will be throwing candy along the parade route and are also asking for candy donations or a monetary donation that can be put towards the purchase of the candy. Please let me know via at mverhunce@gmail.com, or via phone at if you are interested in participating in the Parade or if you are willing to make a donation toward candy.

The WBP has collected more than 26,100 units (pints) since its birth in June That is enough blood to serve 80,000 hospital patients. Cook Country hospitals continue to depend on donors, particularly during the summertime, when many regular donors are on vacation. We welcome you and your family to join us for our Grief Support Gatherings which will occur the second Tuesday of each month. These groups are intended to be social in nature where we can express our support with others that are experiencing the same feelings. We know how losing a loved one affects the core of each family. Whether the passing is sudden or after a long battle with illness, each soul has a story. And everyone has their own way of coping with such a loss; sometimes, we don t know how to start finding a way through the fog of emotions and despair. When we grieve, we need the people in our lives to show up for us in ways that are supportive and helpful. Generally, friends and family want to help; they just don t know how. Furthermore, oftentimes, the griever doesn t know how to communicate what s needed. In this discussion you will learn why it s difficult for grievers to ask for help. You will also learn practical and thoughtful ways to support someone who is grieving. Be prepared to share what has and has not worked for you in your time of grief.
