2 Page 2 Consistency is Key From the Pastor Jeff and Chris are faithful members of their church. They attend church regularly by their own admission. However, the previous year they only attended 28 of the 52 Sundays. How did this happen? Vacation: Jeff is allowed two weeks of vacation and maximizes his time by stretching it out over two weekends. There was also a fall getaway that forced them to miss a Sunday. Total = 5 Sundays. Sickness: Their two children are in school and their family tends to be more susceptible to illnesses than before. On top of that, the illnesses seem to hit on weekends. Total = 3 Sundays. Sports: One of their children shows promise of being a competitive athlete and now belongs to a traveling team. Many games are played out of town and on Sundays. Total = 9 Sundays. Visiting Family Members: The grandparents come to visit a couple of times per year. To maximize their time, they usually spend the weekends catching up and shopping. Total = 2 Sundays. Holidays: To take advantage of the long weekends, Sundays are used as travel days for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year s Day. Total = 2 Sundays. Guest Preachers: Jeff and Chris love their pastor. The guest preacher is never as good as their preacher so, they take the weekend off. Total = 3 Sundays. Jeff and Chris are fictional characters, of course. In our modern times, faithful church attendance is considered 50%. This is not a story to guilt you into coming to church. Nor, is this a story to say everything is alright. It is a request to be aware of the choices we make and why. Look at your calendar for this Fall. There are 20 remaining Sundays. How many do you already know you re missing? Will you be in your place more than 50% of the time? Consistency is the key to success at most things in life. How consistent will you be in this? Make sure to welcome Edith Zimmerman, Zoe Rangel, Donnie and Virginia Conklin to our IBC family this week! Bro.
