2 Page 2 From the Pastor God is not running for the office of God. That sounds funny to say, doesn t it? Too many times in discussions around the office, or in a public place, we seem to be defending who we are following. A rejection of Jesus does not alter His position or authority. God is not running for the office of God. He is God. As the sovereign Lord of the world, He does not need a person s approval to run the universe. Just remember, God decided He would reveal Himself in the person of Jesus Christ and offer Him as the atonement for sin. As the perfect sacrifice, only He could reconcile sinful human beings to a Holy God. We cannot alter this truth any more than we can throw out the law of gravity. Jesus is the only hope for wholeness in this life. Many voices in society claim there are many ways to heaven, but because Jesus defeated sin and death, He is the only One qualified to bring people into a relationship with God. Go and tell with confidence, because God is God. 5 Page 5 Amendment to By Laws to be voted on March 11 Section 1 Definition of Marriage: We believe that the term marriage has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography or any attempt to change one s sex, or disagreement with one s biological sex, is sinful and offensive to God. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Gen. 2:24; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:26-32; 1 Cor. 5:1-2; 6-9; 1 Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4; 1 Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23; Mark 10:6-9 Section 2 Premarital Training Guidelines: All couples desiring to use our church facilities for the purpose of marriage must complete the premarital training course as set forth by Immanuel Baptist Church. *The course will be approximately 6-8 weeks in duration. *The classes will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours per class. *The course will be conducted by a sponsor couple, at a location to be determined. The location will normally be at the sponsor couples house. In the event of unusual circumstances, exceptions may be granted on a case by case basis, which will be determined by the premarital council (composed of the couples who have been trained to be a part of this ministry). 6 Page 6 In our February business meeting, our church voted to receive recommendations for a search committee for a new Children & Young Adult Minister. The following three people were elected to serve on the committee; Debbie Martin, Director of Children s Sunday School; Amy Finch, Director of AWANA Clubs; and Sandra Slate, Representative of Personnel Committee. The church would like to receive recommendations of 4 additional members of the search committee that represent the following: (1) Representative of the Deacons (1) At least one Teacher from our Children s or Preschool Sunday School (1) A parent of children active in our Children s or Preschool Ministries (1) A person from the church body not involved in Children s Ministry The church voted to have a total of seven people make up the committee with a minimum of 3 men. In addition to the seven on the committee, two alternates would also be elected: (1) Alternate from the Children s or Preschool Ministries (1) Alternate from the church body Please confirm with those you would like to nominate that they are willing to serve in this capacity. Limitations of Recommendations: Only one person from a family serving on the committee or/and as an alternate. Alternates will attend meetings and maintain notes, but are not expected to have input in the meetings. No one from the Pastor Search Committee or the Music Search Committee shall serve on this committee.
