1 Waikerie Lutheran Primary School Newsletter Tuesday, 26th February, 2013 Waikerie Lutheran Primary School 16 McCutcheon Street Waikerie SA 5330 Ph: (08) Fax: Website: Principal: Adam Borgas Term 1 Calendar Week 5 Wed 27 Feb Fri 1 Mar Week 6 Mon 4 Mar Tues 5 Mar Wed 6 Mar Fri 8 Mar Sat 9 Mar Week 7 Mon 11 Mar Tues 12 Mar Wed 13 Mar Fri 15 Mar Week 8 Mon 18 Mar Tues 19 Mar Wed 20 Mar Fri 22 Mar Week 9 Mon 25 Mar Tues 26 Mar Wed 27 Mar Thurs 28 Mar Fri 29 Mar Visiting Performance Cybersafety for Kids 8:30am Working Bee Public Holiday Halogen Leadership Conference Year 6/7 ALWS Awareness Day Hot Cross Bun Collection WLPS Sports Day Good Friday (Public Holiday) Message from the Principal Talking Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control out tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in it mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot choices to go, ever though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. James 3:2-5 Talk can be cheap, but it can also be very meaningful. As our bible verse says, our tongue can steer us on the right path in life. As a community, we are privileged that our conversations dwell around a worthy topic of how to best serve our children - the next generation. This year, as we talk within our school community, let us consider ways in which we can talk positively with each other. I encourage all parents to talk with staff about any matters which may be on their minds. Often we ignore the need to communicate and even discount it because we think it may be considered unimportant. I m here to say that if it is a niggling thought that is not going away, on an important subject like your child s education, it is important. If we meet exclusively with your child s best interests at heart, we will always have a positive conversation. We pray: Jesus, help to discipline our tongues and minds, to talk only about worthy subjects and to praise the good work you are able to achieve in and through others. Help us to think before we speak, and for our words to be followed by positive action. Amen. Have a great week. Mr Adam Borgas P&F Annual General Meeting Friday 15th March, commencing at 9:30am. 3 Corner of Peace This week the theme that seems to be re-occurring with uncanny frequency for me has been trust. In the book that I am reading ( That Hideous Strength by CS Lewis), the scriptures passages that I have read, the conversations at my other workplace in Berri (although those rather sadly centred around lack of trust), the conversations at school (on the positive side), and, even at home, in connection with the trust the animals on the block have in us as their carers: all these things seemed to have focused on trust and faith. If we really think about it, we have to admit that our everyday lives do have a lot more to do with trust than we realise. Babies trust Mums and Dads to fill all their daily needs, and, as they grow, our children (and grandchildren) continue to trust us to provide for them and do what is best for them. Parents trust teachers and carers to provide good quality education and care for their children. We trust our employers to pay us at the end of each pay period. Almost unknowingly, we daily trust that there will be air to breath and water to drink and that the earth will continue to function in the way it always has done. Our relationships would indeed be very sad and untenable if we were unable to trust our families, friends and those we meet each day. As humans we may fail one another at times, but we get up again and learn once more to trust and continue on our way at least we do if we want some measure of peace and happiness. However, we do have a wonderful Creator in whom we can have absolute faith and trust in at all times. The peace and comfort this gives us is more precious than any words can express. God bless.
