After many years, Tony Loren (existing chair and former OLL parent), would like to move on to other things and hand over the Festival Entertainment responsibilities to the next generation of OLL parents. As many of you know, live entertainment during festival is a wonderful part of our 3-day event so we need one or more parents to answer the call to fill this position. The Entertainment Committee Chair books all the entertainment (many returning bands and acts), assists set up and tear down with the set up of the stage equipment and lighting, handles the entertainment during the weekend (sound checks, level controls, etc.). This position would be great for one or more people with some knowledge of live entertainment (we know there are some of you out there). You will shadow Tony this year, so if you don t know everything he will help you out. If you are interested please contact Angela Hall at or at chair@ollfestival.org. As you consider this please remember, if no one steps forward to take over we will have to either eliminate live entertainment (this would be very sad) or hire someone to perform the duties. Either option will greatly effect the amount of money that we raise at festival. Thank you for your consideration. 3 Everyone describes Mary as Jesus' mother, as well as our s. She is an example of unwavering faith to God. She is an intercessor, taking our prayers and giving them to God. We look to her for guidance. If I ever say the word Mary, then the word Mother will come to mind. When I was small, I learned about her, gave her flowers, and knew all the great things she had done. But it was only in recent years that I realized how great she was. I never truly realized how faithful her "Yes" was to God, how brave she was to see her son on the cross. When I was young, I already knew that I wanted to become a mother. I always wanted to love and look after a child of my own. But if I was in Mary's place, I'm not sure if I would have the same bravery as she did. She was about fifteen years old at the time, just two years older than I am now. I would have been so afraid; I would have questioned. Mary could have been so unsure, so worried about what was happening. She could have easily disagreed. But instead she said, Yes, without a second thought. I find it truly amazing that she was able to do that. As some of you know, I have a little sister, whom I love. Over the years, I have developed a sense of protectiveness over her. In this way, I have learned a little about feeling for a child of your own. Mary watched Jesus, her Son, suffer and die right in front of her. That time in her life was most likely the biggest faith tester. Why would her Son let them do this to Him? But she trusted Him and God that this needed to be done. Even though she grieved, she trusted that He knew what He was doing. Mary is my hope that someday I will be faithful like her. I worry a lot now, and I will worry a lot more in the future. I know I have to work on my trust in God. I don t know what God has planned for me. I don t know if I will become a mother or not. There are many things I don t know, many things I question from time to time. Whenever I think of Mary, I think about her faith in God, and I am in awe of how much she trusted God. Mary is our mother and our teacher. She placed her life in God s hands, completely trusting Him. I, on the other hand, have not lived so much of my life yet, there will be so many times to come when my faith is tested. When those times do come, I only hope that I remember to look to Mary. She is the ultimate example of faith in God, and she remains as a reminder that we should strive for faith such as hers. I know I have basically reiterated how much faith Mary had a dozen times on this page. But this is what she is to me. In the same way that God is the Father, Mary is the Mother. She is perfect, literally. She will always understand, always be there for you. She ll never leave you on your own. I am reminded of Mary every time I see someone who is ever so faithful to our God. I see her when I see someone care for another being with all their love. I see her in mothers, in big brothers and sisters. I see her in all the people who serve others because they have so much love to give. I see her in my own mother. I hope that with Mary's help, someday, someone might see her in me.

4 Hello. My name is Brian McCarthy. As a student of Our Lady of Lourdes, a school whose namesake is Mary, I am often asked what my connection to Mary is. I always thought along the lines of, "Oh, well, since I'm a Catholic and Mary is the mother of Christ, she is someone we should be reverent to. It could all be that simple. Right?" Well, I'm here to correct myself and say that is not the way it works. Mary works in a plethora of ways, some too great for our simple minds to comprehend. But I will discuss Mary simply as I know her: Mary is my mother. She is my protector, keeping me safe. She gives me happiness when I am in grief, she gives me hope when I am in despair. Mary was at the foot of the cross when Jesus died. She felt every amount of pain that he did. She feels for us, all of our joy and all of our pain. Every bit of our emotions belong to her. She was human just like us and, although she was born without original sin, she knows humanity like the rest of us do. She felt indecision when God asked her to be the Mother of Jesus. She felt joy when Jesus was born. She felt fear when she lost Jesus in the temple. She felt sorrow when Jesus died. While I am always praying to Mary for something, there are notable times when I have needed Mary and will continue to need her. I always pray before and after a test, and, more significantly, I prayed at the time of the death of my Grandma Mary Alice. I was heartbroken when my Grandmother died. I was so young, and someone who had been such a huge person in my young life was suddenly ripped from me. I don't even feel I got to say a proper goodbye when she passed away. I felt so hopeless and isolated. There were times when I really thought I would never recover. However, as I dwelled on her memory, I remembered how she was so devoted to Mary. She would always talk about Mary and how important her role was as the mother of Jesus. She lived a life that emulated Mary, and raised her children and grandchildren so that they would do the same. So, I prayed the Rosary. I had no particular reason for doing so, the thought just occurred to me. As I prayed, I felt a weight lifted from me. It was as if the poison of sadness that so plagued me had been flushed out. I was finally able to understand that, while my Grandmother's death was a truly tragic event, she was with God. With that knowledge in my heart, I was able to move forward with my life, and not wallow in misery forever, which I believe I would have done if it were not for Mary. Thank you for your time.
