Did you know that Easter continues for 50 days of the Resurrection of Our Lord? The heart of the liturgical year is the Easter Triduum (three days) celebrated from the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday evening. The Easter Vigil is the high-point of the celebration. The joyful celebration of Christ s resurrection continues for the 50-day Easter season from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. The liturgical colour for Easter is white. Loving God, Creator of all, Your Son appeared to those who had begun to lose hope and opened their eyes to what the Scriptures foretold. May the risen Lord breathe on our minds and open our eyes today. We ask this in Jesus' name and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen PROJECT COMPASSION: Thank you so much for your generosity towards our Project Compassion fund raising. So far the school community has raised $ This money will be put to great use by Caritas Australia. RECONCILIATION: The 2018 Sacramental Candidates received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday evening at Ss Peter & Paul s Catholic Church. We ask you to continue to pray for the candidates as they prepare for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist which they will receive in August. We have started to use our newsletter to provide an insight into what these terms mean and how they are integrated into teaching and learning at St. Brigid s. This week we look at the 'Connected' and Inspired by Love aspect of our logo. Being connected is fundamental to being in community; whether it be school, Eucharistic or the community in which we live and work. Three years ago our school undertook a research project that explored how our children were connected to St. Brigid s. This was based on the premise that children expressed their connection in a way that was not always clear. The research showed that for the most part, our children feel connected to the school in a positive way. But what was surprising is that it also showed that children connect to their differing environments (school, clubs, etc) for moments in time being present in that moment and not long lasting connectedness that crosses over from one area to another; perhaps a result of the busyness of our contemporary lives.

2 Through helping children understand the importance of connectedness, we help build the capacity in our children to make lasting community connections so they begin to feel they are part of the greater whole. So when they have a need, there is someone to turn to and equally important, reach out to others who may need their support. By understanding the importance of connectedness, children also build upon networks that open up opportunities for them in the future. In pedagogical terms we talk about children becoming interdependent as much as it is important for them to independent. Inspired by Love : Fundamental to all this, is that it matters not, unless the child know they are truly loved. Loved by their parents and families, loved by their teachers and staff and loved by God. We need to recognise that every interaction we undertake with children is one that is underpinned by an authentic love for that child in that moment. So when a child looks into the eyes of an adult at St Brigid s, they come to know that they are truly loved and valued for who they are and the gift they bring by their presence in the school. SPORTS DAY 2018 What a fantastic day! It was wonderful to witness our school family joining together for our 2018 Sports Day. The support of our families with their child s class was greatly appreciated. We congratulate our House Leaders for the wonderful guidance they provided to their Teams and for their efforts with the Health Hustle and chants. Congratulations to the MacKillop House for their success on the day. MacKillop: 1534 Paul: 1441 Brigid: 1396 Peter: 1308 Spirit Cup Term One This year we are eager to further promote the culture of our House Teams and to celebrate the efforts of our children in displaying their care for self, others and our environment. Staff have been acknowledging children who have demonstrated these characteristics, particularly during recess and lunch breaks by issuing Positive Player slips which children place in their House Box in the Front Office. This term we also included the tally from the Coles Shopping vouchers resulting in the following result for Term One: 1 st Paul Peter rd Brigid th Paul 9088 Each Term we will celebrate the House Team which collectively collates the most Positive Player points and displays the spirit which we value at St Brigid s Catholic School. We take this opportunity to thank the parents who volunteered their time to count the vouchers last week, your efforts were greatly appreciated. Be Your Best Award Last year we made a commitment each term to acknowledge the children who display a high standard in their approach to their learning. The anticipated building time line is that building will commence around July 2018 with the expected opening of the centre to be around mid Until building commences we cannot be more specific than this. What this means for families needing to enrol their child into a kindergarten in 2019 and commencing school in 2020, we advise the following options; Full year attendance needs begin at the start of 2019 in another local service. 6 months attendance can begin in the middle of 2019 (depending on the child but not usually recommended) Uniform: Please remember that our uniform changes to Winter Uniform at the start of Term 2. There is a two week grace period that allows for the wearing of either summer or winter uniforms depending on the weather. After this the winter uniform must be worn. COMMUNITY DIMENSION Mothers Day Stall: Please ensure that you have indicated via the SchoolStream message how many gifts your child/ ren need to purchase. This will assist the Parent Team to ensure there are enough gifts available for children to buy.

3 Sports Results: Congratulations to two St Brigid s Catholic School Basketball teams who this week won Grand finals for the Summer 2017/18 Season on Monday 9 April. The program aims at teaching participants in the basic skills of Australian Football with an emphasis on fun activities conducted in a safe & friendly environment. All boys & girls are welcome. Parents are most welcome to attend & join in & have some fun with kids. 7 Congratulations to Indianna and Isabelle who are playing key roles in the production of The Sound of Music at the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre. Indianna will be performing as Gretl Von Trapp and Isabelle as an ensemble member. We encourage families and friends to go along to the show to support our students in this production.
