On Sunday, I was privileged to be able to facilitate one of these forums at St Mary s Catholic Church in Kingaroy. As a church, we are currently on a journey towards a Plenary Council in A Plenary Council is the highest formal gathering of all local churches in a country. The Plenary Council in 2020 is being held so that we can dialogue about the future of the Catholic Church in Australia. The theme for this Plenary Council is listen to what the Spirit is saying. The big question that will be explored during this council is: What is the spirit saying to the church in Australia at this time? This is a very important process and all voices need to be heard. Therefore, Fr Chukwudi thought it wise to start by looking at our local community and listening to the parishioners to hear their views on how we can make our community an awesome place. Fr Chukwudi is particularly interested in this considering he has only been with us for 8 months. He wants to get to understand the parishioners and how best to minister to them. The big questions we focused on were: Where do we want to see our parish community in the next few years? What are some of the issues that we see might be stopping us from getting there? What things do we think we need to put in place to get there? The discussion was positive and focused on how our church can become a more welcoming and inclusive community and also, how we can provide support to families and young people. There was a genuine desire expressed to explore more ideas for reaching out to others. This reflects what our Christian faith is all about. Faith in the person of Jesus requires much more than attendance at Church on Sunday what happens there must also be taken out into our lives each day and be visible in how we love others. This is the challenge of being the Church and is something we must work continuously on as a community. As a crucial arm of the Catholic Church, this is also a challenge to us as a Catholic school community. I hope you all have a blessed and restful holiday. The office will reopen from Tuesday, 2 October to Friday, 5 October between 9am - 3pm. School will resume on Tuesday, 9 October.

2 Campus Minister News On Saturday morning, The Firepit youth ministry team sang at Mt Wooroolin for the QRRRWN prayer breakfast. It was amazing to support this event alongside a Saint Mary's team who put on breakfast. The boys sang confidently and well. Thank you for waking up early on a Saturday to come along. Youth Group Steven Bird from the Evangelisation office in Brisbane visited youth group to speak to the youth about the Plenary Council The students shared in a small listening forum where they expressed their vision for the future of the church. It was a great opportunity for our students as an introduction to the Council. Over the next year the Catholic church will be facilitating listening forums all over the Archdiocese of Brisbane and Australia, we are called to listen to what the Holy Spirit is asking of the church. Shine Girl program - Next Term we will be holding a weekly program called Shine Girl. The program is broken into several sessions under three foundational concepts: worth, strength and purpose. Our hope is that Shine Girl will equip our girls to identify themselves as valuable with much to contribute to society, build confidence and gain and understanding of intrinsic value, develop decision making and problem solving skills, understand they are able to have a positive influence in their world and identify personal desires and strengths to motivate them to set and achieve personal girls. Shine Girl is open to students from grade 4 grade 10 It will run on a Monday at lunchtime and will be facilitated by Mrs Bron Langford Martoo and Miss Megan Schick. Orana aged Care visits - We have been having a great time at Orana aged care centre. Students have been engaging with the residents through many different activities, from Boche to making cars powered by balloons. Thank you to all the students involved throughout this term. We will be resuming our visits first week back in Term 4. Mrs Michelle Davis Tuckshop Convenor Year 5 Bunya Mountains Excursion Year 5 students enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Bunya Mountains this term. Our first stop was the Bunya Mountains Information Centre where the children got to view the displays and listen to a talk from a park ranger. After morning tea, the class walked to Tim Shea Falls observing the large variety of flora and fauna along the way. After lunch, the students participated in a guided tour of Cedarvale Cottage to gain an understanding of the area s rich history.
