1 Informer 2017 Term One, Week Eleven Issue Twelve Wednesday 12 April 2017 The Servant King Last Sunday Christians around the world marked Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where He was greeted by crowds shouting 'Hosanna to the Son of David' and 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord'. According to the Gospel of John, the crowds also placed cloaks and palm branches along the road as a sign of welcome. The words and actions of this crowd are reminiscent of a conquering king returning to proclaim His victory to His citizens. This is a victory parade, meant to show that the king is powerful and mighty, and with the strength of His army can defeat the enemies of the people. Yet Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey. Donkeys are lowly humble beasts of burden. A far cry from the mighty horses and chariots that a conquering king would use. Jesus simply doesn't view power and authority in the same way that our earthly leaders do. As we approach the celebrations of Easter, may we remember the upside down nature of so much of Jesus' ministry, including His entry into Jerusalem. May we remember that for our sake Jesus lived a perfect life, took our sin upon Himself, and died on the cross in our stead. All this He did to demonstrate God's eternal love for us, though we do not deserve it. Jesus is our servant king, crowned with thorns and enthroned on a cross. 2 From the Principal.. What an amazing first term we have had. When I look at our planned calendar for this year I am amazed at what we have already experienced and accomplished. We have had camps, excursions, swimming lessons, a swimming carnival, staff and school council installation, Bible presentation, a fellowship evening, a parent information session, parent/teacher meetings, choir performances, Pedal Prix training sessions, council meetings, P&F meetings and special menus just to name a few. Easter is such an important time for Christians as we reflect on what God has done for us. Each year when Easter comes around, I am in awe of the love God has for us and of what Christ did for you and me. We often hear the saying What would Christ do? in this or that situation. He never gave up on us just because it was going to be hard for Him. He gave the ultimate sacrifice which was His life. I pray we can all be just a little more Christ-like when we interact with each other over these holidays. As we begin our school holidays with Easter celebrations, I pray that you all stay well, safe and are able to share time with friends and family. Farewell Firstly, I would like to say farewell to one of our staff members. Mrs Helen Westermann is leaving us at the end of this term and we are sad to see her go. She has been a real blessing to our school and the LOTE programme as she has engaged with the students each week her love of language. Mrs Westermann will keep in touch with us in the future and we wish her all the best as she continues to teach LOTE at both Angaston and Hahndorf Lutheran Schools. Helen will enjoy more time at home with her family now that she does not have to travel so far each week to Eudunda. I would also like to say goodbye to young Isaac Jenke. Isaac will be leaving us at the end of this term to continue his schooling at the Area School. We will miss his smile and I personally will miss our chats. We wish you and your family a restful school holiday and that next term will be a smooth transition for you as you begin at your new school. Finally, I wish to farewell Paul and Fiona Mosey and their children. At the end of this term they will begin a new chapter in their lives. Blake, Campbell and Meg will begin their schooling next term at Tanunda Lutheran School. Paul and Fiona, you will be missed greatly by our community. Your passion and tireless volunteering for our school has been appreciated and we are thankful for your generosity and support. We wish you as a family a smooth journey as you move to a new community. Blake, Campbell and Meg we pray that you will enjoy the new and exciting challenges ahead of you. Blessings to all of you. 3 From the Principal continued.. Sport Uniforms A reminder that all students are to wear sport uniforms tomorrow (last day of school) for Sports Day training. Zooper Dooper Fridays Pictured below are some of our Foundation and Year One students giving a BIG Thumbs up to our Parents and Friends who have supplied children with Zooper Doopers on Fridays throughout the past two terms. Thank you to the P & F, Mrs Grosser and the Year Six/Seven students who have helped distributed these on Fridays. NAPLAN Early next term we will be again participating in NAPLAN for all of our Year Three, Five and Seven students. These results help to complement the data and information we collate about your child s learning throughout each year. A letter to parents of children involved in NAPLAN this year was sent home earlier this term. If you have any queries or concerns, please speak to your child s teacher or me. End of Term One and DECD Buses Please note that because the Eudunda Area School is finishing at 2.20pm tomorrow, our school day will end at 2.10pm so that students who catch the bus will be able to connect with DECD buses. Along the way they stopped at Mount Crawford Forest to participate in some activities in the forest which included data collecting and exploring the forest floor. We stayed at Woodhouse Activity Centre, the home of the Challenge Hill obstacle course. The students stayed in an old house and participated in a number of activities including visiting Cleland Wildlife Park, Mount Lofty Summit and Botanic Gardens. On their return the students were asked to reflect on their camp using the PYP Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes. Here are some examples: I was Open Minded when sometimes I didn't get a long with my friends Jaz I was an Inquirer when I was in the forest Isaac I was a Communicator when I asked friends about their problems Ryan Page 4

5 SAPSASA Softball.. Girls Last week we went down to West Beach in Adelaide to represent the Barossa and Light SAPSASA Girls Softball Team. We played two games per day. Overall we won two, drew three and lost three games. It was a great experience and we all learnt how to play the sport well by the end of the week. Sophie Nietschke, Breea Schutz and Ebony Noack Boys In week Ten we went to West Beach (Adelaide) for SAPSASA Softball. We were very lucky to have two people who knew how to play, Dan Ryan as our coach and lots of friendly parents helping us, especially one who really helped us throughout the week. At the end of the week we had won five games, lost two and drew one, which meant that we tied third place in our division. It was a great experience that we all enjoyed. The Eudunda Robertstown Lutheran Parish AGM The AGM will be held on Sunday 28 May The Chairperson and Secretary roles will be vacated as Shane Schiller and Lesley Anne Sander are resigning from these positions. This is an exciting challenging time to be involved in Parish Council as we engage in God s mission in our new parish.
