Love means different things to different people. Much of the ways people show love is as a result of their upbringing; how love was shown to them as they were growing up and the words spoken to them to show love and appreciation. The word love in the dictionary has many meanings. Dictionary.com describes love as A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend. The benevolent affection of God for his creatures, or the reverent affection due from them to God. A large part of love is the respect and trust between individuals within a relationship. The greater the respect and trust between people, the deeper the relationship. However, love is more than just respect and trust. It is a mixture of actions, emotions, attitudes, words and presence. Corinthians 13:4-7 tells us Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. It is clear from both the dictionary definition and the Bible that love is a positive thing and builds people up. Surely this is something we all aspire to. As a parent, there are times when our children cause us anguish, annoy us and speak in ways that are not positive and uplifting. There are times when our children do things which require consequences. People do these things because they are human. All humans are born sinful. However, it is important to separate the action from the person. It is the action which we do not like, not the person. Grace is a big part of how we respond to the brokenness in relationships. We are not perfect, and I am the first to admit that one! God s love is unconditional and it is through his great love for us that he acts in grace he is willing to forgive and move forward. Dear God, please help me to keep relationships with others positive. Forgive me for the times I have not understood or have assumed things which destroy relationships. Help me to act in love and grace. Amen. Blessings on your week, Sue Beelitz Interim Principal Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christ-centred community, equipping each student for life.

5 Corner of Peace John 13:2-15 (NIV) 2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, Lord, are you going to wash my feet? 7 Jesus replied, You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand. 8 No, said Peter, you shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered, Unless I wash you, you have no part with me. 9 Then, Lord, Simon Peter replied, not just my feet but my hands and my head as well! 10 Jesus answered, Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you. 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean. 12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. Do you understand what I have done for you? he asked them. 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. The story of Jesus washing his disciple s feet is something we often don t think about is it because He says I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you. We may be happy to serve those who are our friends and family, even doing menial tasks with joy and pleasure because we care for them. But Jesus went one step further. He washed Judas (his betrayer s) feet. So we need to serve our enemies as well as our friends. The soldier in the picture brings it closer to home for our present time. God bless you with his peace this week Moira (Chaplain/Pastoral Care) POSITION AVAILABLE We are looking for a person to help with cleaning the school after hours once a week for approximately 2.5 hours. This person would need to be reliable and flexible and able to work in a team environment. Remuneration will be at a casual rate under the Lutheran School s Association Enterprise Agreement. For more information, please contact our Interim Principal, Mrs Sue Beelitz on or via sueb@wlps.sa.edu.au for more details or information. Applications close on Tuesday, 11th April at 5:00pm.

8 Cyber Safety Presentations Last week the Year 5 class had a very busy week. On Monday Police officers Chris and Paul from the Berri police presented a number of sessions at the school, speaking to students from Years 3-7 about Cyber Safety. They spoke about stranger danger online, what to look out for, various strategies to stay safe and the age restrictions on various apps and why they are in place. Thursday evening saw the Year 5 Class present their unit of inquiry to a packed room of parents. Each group spent time researching a different area of cyber safety such as posting photos, cyber bullying, social media, public Wifi and camera and phone safety. Thank you to all those who attended, we hope that you found this both informative and that this has opened up avenues for you to have further discussions about online safety with your child.
