Jesus did not hurry, and in the end Lazarus died. Jesus finally arrived to find that Lazarus had died four days earlier. Martha, understandably, was very angry with Jesus for taking his time. She said to Him, "If you had been here, my brother would not have died." Jesus then told Martha, "Your brother will rise again." However, Martha thought he was talking about the final resurrection of the dead. Then Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." The story ends well with Jesus going to the tomb where Lazarus was lying and telling him to come out. Lazarus then appears, very much alive. The point of the matter is that waiting on God is hard. When we desperately need an answer to prayer and nothing seems to happen, our trust in God can be tested. However, when we look back on these times we often see them as most influential in shaping our faith. The truth is not all situations actually end up as positively as Lazarus rising from the dead. Last week was not a great week for me there were a couple of things that didn t go well...and yes I ve been praying constantly for them to be resolved the way I would like. So here I am waiting on God. Maybe you have been waiting for healing, for a new home, a job, or some other kind of change that you desperately need. You re trusting in God initially and patiently wait for Him to work, creating the transformation you have been praying for..and nothing happens.and nothing happens..and nothing happens. Waiting on God is very testing, and it is easy to lose hope and keep trusting when nothing seems to be happening. But GOD IS LISTENING, it s just that He does things in his own way and to his own schedule not ours. I know, when reflecting on events in my life, God has always answered my prayers and some of these answers have definitely not resembled my original hopes and requests of Him. When I ask why and begin to doubt I remember Psalm 31:14-15 But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, You are my God. My times are in Your hand; Submitted by Terry Sawade (Principal) 1

2 10th November 2015 A few words Dear Parents, Annual Parent Survey As was the case in 2014 we are again conducting our Annual Parent Survey online. Parents whose addresses are on file at school will be contacted by the survey providers and given a link to the survey which will go live from Wednesday November 11th until Friday November 27th. For those parents who have not provided us with a contact , the following web-link will provide you with access to the survey. This year we have included specific questions relating to:- Support Maths programs School camps and excursions Use of technology to communicate between school and home Extra curricula activities Parents opinion about the best and worst facet of the school. We appreciate any feedback and encourage all school families to spend 10 minutes completing the survey. VSC Parent Awareness Training The final one hour VSC Parent Awareness training will be held at school at 10am this Friday November 13th in Room 4. Andrea Athanasopoulos will once again conduct the session. Please contact the school office to register your intent to participate. Swimming Lessons By Terry Sawade Swimming Lessons commence on Monday November 23rd (week 7) and conclude on Friday November 27th. All children from Reception to Year 5 will have the opportunity of participating in these lessons, which again this year will be run and co-ordinated by Paula Nitschke. The daily time-table for lessons is as follows 9.30am Year 4/5 Bus leaves 9.10am 10.20am Year3/4 Bus leaves 10.00am 11.10am Year 2/3 Bus leaves 10.50am 12.00pm Year 1/2 Bus leaves 11.40am 1.15pm Reception Bus leaves 12.55pm Reception Transition The first of four transition visits for the students starting in our Reception Class in February 2016 commences tomorrow, Wednesday November 11th and conclude on Wednesday December 2nd. The program for the visits is:- Wednesday November 11th 8.45am to 11am (before recess) Wednesday November 18th 8.45am to 11.20am (after recess) Wednesday November 25th 8.45am to 12.55pm (before lunch) Wednesday December 2nd 8.45am to 3.15pm (full day) I, together with Rose Rosebergen (P & F representative), will meet with the parents of the new children in the staff room at 9:00am, on Wednesday November 11th, for coffee and to discuss a range of topics, as well as answering any questions parents may have. 2

3 10th November, 2015 From the Principal Casual Day As mentioned previously, Wednesday November 11th (tomorrow) is a casual day at school. For a gold coin donation, the children can simply wear casual clothes or preferably dress appropriately to the theme of the day, which in this case is Pyjama day. The money raised will be forwarded to the Pyjama Foundation which supports foster carers and the children in their care. Remembrance Day Wednesday November 11th is Remembrance Day, and as is the case each year, the school will be conducting a Remembrance Day service in the area surrounding the flag pole at the front of the school. All parents and friends are most welcome to attend. Proceedings will start at 10.50am. As is also the situation each year, our Captains and Vice Captains will represent the school by attending the Remembrance Day service at the Cross of Sacrifice, where they will lay a wreath. Co-ordinating and supervising the students will be Margaret Wormald. Skipping Rope Donation Many thanks to the Mulvey family (Trudy & Malcolm) for their kind donation of a large number of skipping ropes to the school. Your kind gesture is very much appreciated and will prove to be very popular with the children. ELC News By Rachel Hentschke This term we have Shayla Henry volunteering on Fridays. The children are enjoying working with Shayla and she is also a fantastic support to our staff. Our ELC children who are going to school next year will receive a written report this term. The ELC Educators are enjoying reflecting on the social, emotional and academic growth and development of these children over their time at the ELC. These will go home later in the term, when the school reports are sent to parents. OPENING HOURS FOR 2016 Please note that the ELC's opening hours for 2016 have changed slightly. If you can spare a day or two, please contact me ASAP. ipad Insurance If you require ipad insurance during the 2016 school year, $50 will need to be paid for by 31 st December Notes will be sent home to those who opted for the insurance in 2015, however the option is open to anyone. Invoices will not be sent due to the uncertainty of who requires the insurance. Any insurance not paid by the due date will not be insured through the school in

5 Library News By Margaret Wormald Thank you Thank you to all the parents, friends and students who purchased items from the Book Fair and from the Book Clubs, throughout the year. Thanks to your generous support and to the generous commissions we receive, we have been able to add substantially to the Library stock. We especially thank those Year 7 students and their parents who have generously donated a book to the Former Student Library, to remind us of their time at our school. We know that these books will be eagerly sought out by students next year. A special thank you also to Anne Loxton who has volunteered her time on a weekly basis to cover library books and readers. What would we do without wonderful volunteers? This term we have also had the assistance of Carly Kittleson who has volunteered to help with many administrative tasks around the school. Thank you as always, to the LSOs who help most days in the library and keep things running smoothly to ensure that new books and items make it out onto the shelves quickly for the students and teachers to access. Returning Library Books The return date for all student loans is Friday 27 November (end of Week 7). No borrowing will be possible after this date, for the rest of the year. This is so we can do our annual stocktake. It would be greatly appreciated if you would help remind your children to return their books, especially those long-term overdue items. Overdue notices will be sent out next week. Thank You! A special thank you to Kay Hampel for donating her time to make up ice pack covers for use in our first aid room. It was much appreciated! 5

Trudy Battams CANTEEN NEWS Canteen Manager Loxton Community Carols We will be participating again as a Choir in the Loxton Community Carols, to be held this year on Sunday December 13 from 7:45 pm in East Terrace by the Rotunda (or at the Peace Hall if the weather is inclement). A note with all the details will be going out tomorrow Riverland Primary Schools Music Festival Our school has to register now for next year s festival and song books and CDs need to be ordered and paid for as soon as possible. Students who will be in Years 5, 6 or 7 next year can be a part of the choir. Our school choir joins with school choirs from around the Loxton District to sing at the Chaffey Theatre in Term 3 next year. Our school choir will have weekly practices during school time, beginning in Week 3, Term 1, next year. If your child is interested in being a part of the Riverland Primary Schools Music Festival, please ensure that they collect a notice explaining more details and return the permission slip and money for the song books to me by Monday 16th November. They will then be able to begin choir practices next year with all the resources needed. Many children look back with fondness at their experiences performing as part of the festival choir and it promises to be a proud night for parents who have children partaking, as well. I urge any student who enjoys the Performing Arts to consider making the most of the chance to be a part of this renowned Riverland event, as it is a great stepping stone towards further performance opportunities.
