1 VOL 20, ISSUE DECEMBER 2018 Upcoming Events WEEK 9 WED 12 DECEMBER Students Final Day Uniform Shop Closed Graduation Service at Endeavour 2019 TERM ONE WEEK 1 WED 30 JANUARY School Commences (Year 1 - Year 6) Opening Chapel WED 30 JANUARY - MON 4 FEB Reception School Visits WEEK 2 TUES 5 FEBRUARY Reception Students First Day A child born to save us all When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Matthew 2:10-11 (NIV) A child was born to save us all, but in a crib he slept. Visitors from near and far, but still his mother wept. First cries and calls, as newborns do, but these did not amaze. The heart of this new mother grieved, she already knew His fate. For this child s path was chosen, in joy and sorrow mixed. Creation had been broken, and He was sent to fix. No hammer, plane or chisel, would help though with this job. This baby sent to save us, would die amongst the mob. But from this birth you re chosen, and by this death you re saved. So give thanks and count your blessings as you exult on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas from St Paul Lutheran School
2 INSPIRE photos featured this week: Reception Christmas Concert From the Principal CHRISTMAS GREETINGS I would like to thank all school staff, families and students for their support, community and generosity through As we near Christmas, my prayer for you all is that you can find time to be with family; to rest and reflect after the busy-ness that is life; and to rejoice in the celebration of the birth of our Saviour Jesus. CHRISTMAS CONCERT THANK YOU Last Wednesday we were treated to a Christmas concert from the Receptions sharing the nativity story. It was an entertaining reminder that we celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas: God coming to us in the form of a miracle baby. Thank you to all families who attended, to the Reception students for their hard work in rehearsals and wonderful singing and acting, and to Gretchen Watkins, Claire Fisher and Yvonne Folland for their preparation and commitment to this event. FAREWELL On Friday s presentation assembly, we had the opportunity to farewell a number of students who are leaving St Paul at the end of the year. We pray for God s continued blessing on all families those heading to different places in Farewell also to our 2018 graduating students and to those families who will graduate from St Paul, some after many years of being part of the community. So many families have supported the school in their time at St Paul, spanning many years! We thank all Year 6 students for sharing their personalities with us and pray blessings upon your future schooling. From the Deputy Principal THANK YOU Thank you to all of the families in our community for your support of teachers at this busy time of year. It s amazing seeing the generosity of families with the amount of Christmas presents coming into the school and the way parents greet and interact with teachers. Your continued support and sense of community is truly appreciated. God bless and Merry Christmas. Jason Fay Deputy Principal From the Wellbeing Leader END OF YEAR SERVICE Our End-of-Year Service, including the Year Six Graduation, takes place at 7:00pm on Wednesday 12 December in the Endeavour Centre, Endeavour College. This is a final worship service for all students and is a compulsory school event for students in Reception to Year 6. Students are required to wear official summer uniform. Students may wear their PE uniform during the day on Wednesday so their summer uniform is clean for the evening service. On arrival at the Endeavour Centre, children are to assemble in class groups, outside the main entrance, by 6:40pm. Families of graduating students are invited to gather in the Endeavour Centre foyer for pre-service refreshments from 6:00pm. Year 6 parents are given first access to the auditorium at 6:30pm. Remaining families will be permitted to enter the foyer from 6:30pm, before being seated from 6:40pm. If you cannot attend, please advise your child s teacher in writing. Leila Mattner Principal
3 TIMETABLE CHANGES 2019 Next year we will be introducing a new timetable for our school day. 8.30am Children arrive at school 8.45am Lessons commence am Lesson am Lesson am Lunch pm Lesson pm Lesson pm Afternoon Recess pm Lesson pm School day ends Research states that changing the times and lengths of the lunch breaks and eating earlier has positive impact on play and behaviour. The change in the school day also allows for 2 x 1 hour teaching blocks in the morning, when students are at their best to learn. We have also placed a longer play time earlier in the day so students are outside during the cooler part of the day. Class teachers determine their own fruit break depending on their own class schedule. standard.net.au/story/ /early-lunch-has-perks/ Carly Bergen Wellbeing Leader General News OFFICE HOURS The School Office will close on Friday 14 December and reopen on Monday 21 January. Leadership staff members will be in the office at times during the break so please should you need to contact these staff members in this time period. RECEPTION STUDENTS IN 2019 In 2019, Reception students will commence school on Tuesday 5 February. Reception teachers will coordinate student and family visits at school for in the week prior to this to develop relationships amongst the teacher, the parents and the students. RECEPTION COORDINATION 2018 has been another very successful year for our Reception Coordination programme. Mrs Lampshire and Mr Mayer would like to thank all the amazing volunteers who made it possible every week. A special mention needs to go to Mrs Burls who regularly set up the selected equipment. Reception Coordination builds skills and confidence in small groups. This year we started moving the sessions outside and embraced the bigger spaces and opportunities in the junior primary playground. Hopping through the sand, balancing on logs and building more stamina with extended pathways helped to increase fitness and allowed the reception students to discover more opportunities in their play environment. Thank you for a great year. We hope all students will have an active and safe holiday. Mr Mayer and Mrs Lampshire RETURN OF NETBALL/BASKETBALL UNIFORMS Netball/Basketball uniforms are now due to be returned to the front office. These will be re-allocated next year. If you still have scheduled games this week, you can return to the office next week between 9am - 3pm.
