It s a phenomenon called concerted cultivation and the staff actively encourages this involvement as much as possible in the families of the WLPS community. Just the other day while reviewing our enrolment process I was able to include this information in my notes as a way to begin the conversation about parents and teachers being co-educators. Personally I am reminded that when I pass on, my children will basically be left to fend for themselves. I can prepare them for their future right now by the way I care for their needs now. By showing interest in our kids, we demonstrate those things dear to us. I want to show my kids that I value education and place importance on knowing God and knowing the virtues of love and forgiveness. As a result, I get involved in my kids education and talk about how I am a lifelong learner (we all are); I read to my kids from the Bible and have discussions with them about God and try to practice serving others every opportunity I get. It s a good exercise to be a virtuous person because then more than likely you will have virtuous kids. What things do you hold dear to you that you can ensure you pass onto your kids? We Pray: God, we know that one day we won t be here to parent our kids. Please help us now to demonstrate to our kids now what is important to us, in the hope that they will also adopt these virtues that are dear to us. Have a great week! 3 Corner of Peace When I was a little girl there were times that other children would tease or hurt me and I would complain to my dad about how unfair it all was. My very wise father remained unruffled and gave me the very best advice in telling me that vengeance is mine saith the Lord.at the time I had no idea that he was quoting directly out of the Old King James version of the Bible. But I loved and trusted my Dad and so took his excellent advice to heart, which stood me in very good stead, and gave me a wonderful peace too. Yet all around us it is so common to hear people pursuing vengeance and believing that it is their right to do so. I guess that accounts for the popularity of such Television series as Revenge..I often hear people talking about it, but quite honestly the very title puts me off watching it! The prophet Jonah was another one who ran away from God because he knew about God s compassion and he (Jonah) had a vengeful attitude towards the Ninevites to whom God was sending him. God turned him back anyway and the warnings were made to the people of Nineveh (in modern vernacular we would have seen the people of Nineveh as a very bad nation of terrorists and murders). The people of Nineveh turned away from their terrorism and cruel behaviour and were sorry. And, as Jonah suspected, God forgave them. The story continues in Jonah Chapter 4: ((NLT) Jonah s Anger at the LORD s Mercy): 4 This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry. 2 So he complained to the LORD about it: Didn t I say before I left home that you would do this, LORD? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. 3 Just kill me now, LORD! I d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen. 4 The LORD replied, Is it right for you to be angry about this? 5 Then Jonah went out to the east side of the city and made a shelter to sit under as he waited to see what would happen to the city. 6 And the LORD God arranged for a leafy plant to grow there, and soon it spread its broad leaves over Jonah s head, shading him from the sun. This eased his discomfort, and Jonah was very grateful for the plant. 7 But God also arranged for a worm! The next morning at dawn the worm ate through the stem of the plant so that it withered away. 8 And as the sun grew hot, God arranged for a scorching east wind to blow on Jonah. The sun beat down on his head until he grew faint and wished to die. Death is certainly better than living like this! he exclaimed. 9 Then God said to Jonah, Is it right for you to be angry because the plant died? Yes, Jonah retorted, even angry enough to die! 10 Then the LORD said, You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. It came quickly and died quickly. 11 But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, [a] not to mention all the animals. Shouldn t I feel sorry for such a great city? It is very encouraging to hear the children, here at school, respond more often than not to one another in caring rather than revenge. They have learnt the lesson so well that Jesus teaches us all: Matthew 6:14-15 (CJB) 14 For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; 15 but if you do not forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will not forgive yours. This was the lesson of peace I also learnt as a child. May God bless you all with His peace too! Moira Ganner Birthdays this Week Matthew Schmidt 27th May Sue Beelitz 28th May Prayers Thank God for providing our students with an opportunity to learning about refugees last Friday, 22nd May at ALWS Awareness Day. Ask God to be with those who are sick or injured. Pray that He will place His healing hands on them. Pray for rain to water the crops.

4 ALWS Day Last Friday, 22nd May our students were joined by 50 students from Loxton Lutheran for ALWS Awareness Day. The children got to learn about and experience what it is like to be a refugee. Here are some of the reflections from Miss Fuss Class: I was brave and tried the rice. William Weir I learnt that refugees have to walk a long way. Ethan Rayner I learnt that refugees get the children to help with the work. Makaylah Childs They have to move because there are wars or they don t have enough food. Aby Mihalopoulos I liked learning about refugees because I didn t know about them before. Amali Nistchke Here are some reflections from Mr Braun s Foundation/Year 1 Class: I ate rice and it was yummy and I liked it. Some of my friends liked rice too. Ashmitha Ramesh I learnt how to talk in a different language. Elizabeth White I made a refugee toilet. Alicia Wood I learnt how to write in a different language. Megen Mihalopoulos Today I made a tent. I enjoyed making it. Thivyan Ramesh
