3 TODAY AT FAITH This morning we continue in the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus preaches about treasures on earth and treasures in heaven. God s Word encourages us to think about where our heart is, what our treasure is, and how to make lasting investments in the kingdom of heaven. Also this morning we install new elders and deacons to a time of service in the church leadership. We give thanks for elders George Folkerts, Tim Huiner, Randy Van Dahm, Herm Vander Naald, John Veldsema and deacons Randy Heerdt, Mike Printz, Jon Rauwerda, Ryan Swanson and Hank Vander Naald who are concluding a term of service. This evening we re beginning a new summer sermon series Who Is Like the Lord? We ll be working through stories from 1 and 2 Kings that follow the prophet Elijah s struggle to call God s people away from their idols and back to the Lord. We ll begin tonight with 1 Kings 16:29-17:6, which introduces us to Elijah and the competition between Baal and the Lord in Old Testament Israel. Hymn sing: During our evening service, the congregation will have the opportunity to choose a number of songs as we praise the Lord together. Congratulations to Christopher & Joy Koopmans on the birth of their daughter, Alexis Marie, on June 1. Ron Tazelaar is undergoing several weeks of radiation therapy to prevent the return of throat cancer. Pray that the radiation is effective, and that it causes minimal side effects. Remember to pray for those who are unable to join us in worship. Today we think of Annette Klein who lives at Alden Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates.

4 ANNOUNCEMENTS Committees at Faith CRC - Our church has a variety of committees that encourage and support the many ministries of our church. Along with new elders and deacons beginning service in June, our committees also have openings for service. Service on committees like Evangelism, Missions, Small Groups, Adult Ministries, Youth Ministries, Finance, Technology and others is possible. These committees often meet about once a month at most. They are a great place to inspire existing ministries and dream up new ways for our church to be effective for Christ. Summer prayer study: Do you often desire to have a deeper prayer life, but wonder how to make it happen? This summer there will be an opportunity to practice prayer following a guide designed to challenge and encourage you to pray each day. Most of this study is designed to be done individually, but we ll meet as a group three or four times over the summer to reflect on what we re learning and to encourage each other. Please contact Pastor Matthew for more information. Attention all the Vacation Bible School crew leaders, crew helpers, and station leaders, there will be a short informational meeting and prayer right after church this morning. We will meet in the back left wing of the sanctuary. Please plan on attending. Vacation Bible School is this week! Please remember the staff and children in your prayers. Vacation Bible School is collecting twin size sheet sets for Hogar dé Niños this summer. If you'd like to purchase sheets to be donated to Hogar, you may leave them in the box in the narthex anytime from now to June 9. Be creative with your donation. We want to send a variety of playful sheets to Honduras. Please join us for the Vacation Bible School finale program and ice cream social this week Thursday night at 7:00 PM! Everyone is invited! Come and see what we've been up to all week. Downtown bike ride: You re invited to a bike ride along Chicago s Lakefront Trail this Saturday, June 11. We ll meet at church at 3:00 PM and be back around 8:00 PM. We ll bike the trail for a couple hours and then grill dinner downtown. If you re interested in going along on this ride, sign up in the narthex or talk to Pastor Matthew or Randy Heerdt, Jr. The Faith Book Club is done until September, but has selected Presidents Club: Inside the World s Most Exclusive Fraternity by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy for summer reading. Established at Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration by Harry Truman and Herbert Hoover and continues thru Obama s first administration, the book covers the relationships current presidents have with their predecessors and how they help each other behind the scenes and in public. With the Presidential campaigns in full swing this summer, this book should be an interesting read. Enjoy your summer. From United Community Concerns Association (UCCA) Thank you for your wonderful donation on May 14, 88 local families received food from our Mobile Food Pantry and at least one item contributed by members of your church. We greatly appreciate your congregation s continued generosity and kindness toward our UCCA families.
