3 TODAY AT FAITH On this New Year s Sunday morning we ll read about God s new covenant with His people in Jeremiah 31, and reflect on God s everlasting commitment to His people. This evening we ll have a New Year s prayer service. Pastor Matthew will offer a meditation on prayer from the book of James, and we ll together bring our request and thanksgivings to our Lord. NEW SERMON SERIES STARTING IN JANUARY Pastors Greg and Matthew are excited to announce our new winter sermon series starting on January 11: In the morning our series Who is He? will explore the incredible impact of Jesus on the world, society and people s lives. We ll loosely follow a book by John Ortberg, called Who is This Man? Please consider reading this book and even discussing it in your small group January through March of In the evening our series will be The Book of Romans: Our Journey of Faith. Journey along with the pastors as we explore the depths and practical applications of our faith as summarized in Paul s magnum opus, Romans. PRAYER & PRAISE After the morning service, if you have prayer needs, please visit room 1 on the north side of the sanctuary. Genevieve Torringa went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 28. We express our Christian sympathy to her husband Herb, and her family. Her funeral was held on Wednesday. Jean Gehrke will be having surgery to remove her thyroid on Wednesday, January 7 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Please keep Jean in your prayers for a successful surgery as well as a quick recovery. Terry Vander Naald was in the hospital for a few days Christmas week with pneumonia and some heart concerns. She s back at home now and doing better. George Vos is home and doing well after a minor health scare last Sunday. Garry Wieringa has continued to struggle with a number of health issues following cancer surgery a couple months ago, and he was still at Good Samaritan Hospital this week. Pray that the doctors are able to find ways to improve Garry s health. Remember to pray for those who are unable to join us in worship. Today we think of Dan Teune who lives in Providence Healthcare. Marlene Lindemulder has moved to Holland, MI. Her new address is Mason St., Holland, MI Her phone number will remain the same. Please make note of this change in your church directory. 4 ANNOUNCEMENTS The Faith CRC Council will be meeting tomorrow to initiate the elderdeacon nomination process for the service term starting in June The process starts with the Council selecting nominees for each office, and culminates on May 4 at our annual Congregational Meeting with the congregation voting from among the Council nominees. In preparation, the Council asks the congregation to suggest names for each office. We value your thoughtful and prayerful input on who would qualify as elders and deacons. We are guided in this process by the insight provided in God s word regarding the qualifications for each office, found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 (elders) and 1 Timothy 3:8-13 (deacons). To make a recommendation, please put the nominee s name and the office for which you are nominating him on a signed piece of paper and put it in the church mailbox of Chuck Slinkman, Clerk of Council. Thank you for your help in this important matter! Meal Train: Faith CRC uses Meal Train to inform volunteers if someone in our church is in need of meals to help make difficult times a little easier. If you are interested in helping out or need to update your address just give your name and address to Hank Vander Naald or Jon Rauwerda. The Calvin January Series returns to Faith! Beginning on Wednesday, January 7, 2014 and continuing weekdays through January 27, The Calvin January Series will be shown via a "live feed" from Calvin College from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Faith CRC is one of 44 remote webcast sites across the continent. Bush as the book to read in January. George W. Bush openly admits that this book is not a normal biography but a love story of a father from a son. We will meet on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:00 PM. Grab a copy and join us! Creative Connections will be held on Thursday, January 22, from 6:30 10:00 PM. This month we will be making a personalized monogram burlap/wood sign.
