2 TODAY AT FAITH This morning our Sermon on the Mount series continues with Matthew 7: As Jesus moves toward the conclusion of His sermon, He challenges His listeners to be true disciples in their words, works and worship. Also in morning worship we celebrate God s grace in the baptism of Levi Herman Sowers. This evening we will join with area Christian Reformed Churches in worship at 6:00 PM at Western Springs CRC. PRAYER & PRAISE If you have prayer needs, please visit room 1 on the north side of the sanctuary after the morning service. Marge Van Tholen went to be with her Lord last Saturday. We extend our sympathy to her children Pete & Winnie Van Tholen, Bob & Joann Van Tholen, Grace & Bob Dryden, George & Mary Van Tholen and their families. May you find comfort in God's love, peace in His faithfulness. Lorraine Hodapp recently fell and broke her foot. She ll be in a cast for several weeks. Pray for recovery and improved health for Lorraine. Bob Laning continues to be at Park Place for rehab following knee replacement surgery. Remember to pray for those who are unable to join us in worship. Today we think of Shirley Vroom who lives in Saratoga Grove. We would like to thank the congregation for their thoughts and prayers and support for Brian while he served in the Navy. After 24 years, Brian is retired from the Navy and will be coming home for a while. Small Groups at Faith: Small groups are starting up again for the fall. We have a wide variety of groups, including couples groups, men s and women s groups, and prayer groups. If you re interested in joining a group, please contact Pastor Matthew or Chuck Slinkman, and we ll help find the right group for you! Friday Morning Men s Bible Study: The Friday morning Men s Bible study is studying the Gospel of Mark this fall, and would love to have you join in. The group meets from 6:30-7:30 AM on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. Coffee and light breakfast provided. Contact Christopher Koopmans or one of the pastors for more info, or feel free to show up at our meeting this Friday, September 9.

3 Mom2Mom, a group designed specifically for new moms and moms with young children, will begin on September 22. Mom2Mom meets twice a month for fellowship, encouragement, discussion and mentoring. Mom2Mom provides a beautiful and nurturing environment where Titus 2 relationships are encouraged the older women mentoring the younger women. Mom2Mom meets most 2nd and 4th Thursdays, September - April, from 9:00-11:00 AM. Excellent childcare provided. New moms can join at any time. Just register at faithelmhurst.org. Contact Sarah Schuringa, or sschuringa@sbcglobal.net with any questions. The Women s Bible Studies will start on Thursday, September 22, and will meet most first and third Thursdays. The morning study meets from 9:00 11:00 AM at church and offers childcare. The evening study meets from 7:15 9:00 PM at church. All women are welcome! We ll be studying The 7 Experiment: Staging Your Own Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker. Golf Outing - The Timothy Christian Assistance Fund Annual Golf Outing will be held at Maple Meadows Golf Course in Addison on Saturday, September 24, with a shotgun start at 1:00 PM. The cost is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, prizes and a family style dinner. Singles and Foursomes are welcome to register. If you are not a golfer but wish to join in the fun and fellowship you and your family are welcome to attend the dinner at 6:30 PM for a $25 per adult donation. Kids eat for free. Please check your calendar to see if you can participate in this wonderful outing for a great cause. Invite your friends, invite your co-workers, invite the Faith member sitting next to you. On Thursday, September 29, worship team musicians will lead us in a time of worship at 7:00 PM. Join us as we lift up the name of our God in song. From 6:00-7:00 PM that evening a Soup & Salad dinner is being planned. Put September 29 on your calendar! The 7 th & 8 th Grade Catechism Class will be collecting aluminum cans. The money from the cans will be donated to Feed My Starving Children. Please help by saving cans and dropping them off in tightly tied bags at the house. Service opportunity for Faith Church! The Evangelism Committee has received a request from the United Community Concerns to assist their clients with donations of bath soap or body wash to be distributed at the next Mobile Food Pantry. There will be a box marked UCCA in the Fellowship Hall thru September 11 for your donations. This is the same organization that we have donated toothpaste and dental hygiene products to in the past. Their clients are deeply appreciative of the love shown to them by our generous contributions!

4 YOUTH NEWS The Cadet & Jr. Cadet season will kick off with a Mother/Son mini-golf & pizza party this Wednesday. Information sheets are in the narthex. All 3rd - 8th grade boys & Moms are invited. Asylum: Middle School students (6-8 th ) are invited to join our youth group meeting on select Fridays from 7:00 9:00 PM beginning September 9. The Gathering: High School students are invited to join our youth group for dinner, games and Bible study on Sundays from 7:00 9:00 PM beginning September 11. Catechism Classes will begin on September 11 (10:45 11:20 AM). GEMS Girls Club (girls in grades 1-8) begins their season on Wednesday, September 14 from 6:30-8:30 PM. After Hours (September 14 and 28): All 6 th -12 th graders are invited to come hang out, play games and eat snacks at the Church House after school from 3:00-4: 30 PM. Restorative Justice, Restorative Practice and Procedural Justice: In Criminal Justice, Schools and Communities Conference will be held at Trinity Christian College on Saturday, October 1, Our society is experiencing deep social divisions, mistrust, and killings. Thankfully a recent approach to criminal justice and many other forms of social relations called Restorative Justice is on the scene with great success. We present a conference introducing you to this perspective or deepening knowledge for those already familiar. We present two keynote speakers, a panel session of experts, and your choice among nine presentations across three timesessions. This conference will enlighten pastors, teachers, police officers, counselors, and others interested in peace, justice and social harmony.
