4 4 Welcome to Faith! I rejoiced with those who said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. Psalm 122:1 We gather for worship each Sunday morning and evening to glorify God as we grow with others in the love and truth of Christ. Be sure to prepare your heart to meet the Lord in worship and to warmly greet and welcome those around you. Please remember to turn off your cell phone for worship. Please visit our Welcome Center for information about Faith. Welcome cards are available in the pews please fill one out and place it in the offering plate. After worship, elders are always available by the exits to our worship auditorium for prayer. For Babies and Moms: a mother s room is available in the south wing so moms can care for their babies in private. For Children Under 3: infants and toddlers are cared for in two nurseries in our south wing. Children Ages 3 Kindergarten are invited to attend Children s Church during our morning worship, where indicated in the order of worship. This is a fun time of singing and Bible teaching led by loving volunteers. Worship at Faith In worship this morning and this evening we continue a series of sermons in December called The Christ of Christmas. The focus will be on a name of Jesus in each service. In the first half of our worship service this morning, the choir will lead us in a time of Christmas music interspersed with Scripture. In the second half of worship this evening, our Sunday School (Grades 1-6) and Children s Church (ages 3 Kindergarten) will lead us in a focus on Christmas. 6 6 Opportunities to Serve, Grow and Connect The Council is calling a special Congregational Meeting this morning following the worship service. The purpose of this meeting is to present the findings and recommendation of the Council s Parsonage Task Force and consider motions from Council to implement the recommendation. Sunday School: Tonight is our Christmas Program, What's in a Name! During the congregational meeting Sunday School grades 1-3 will meet in the choir room and grades 4-6 will meet in the fellowship hall. We will be practicing in the sanctuary immediately following the meeting for 45 minutes. Parents of children grades 1-6: please have your child at church at 5:00 PM for rehearsal in the sanctuary. After rehearsing the children will sit with you until it is time to perform. Today is our last day of Sunday School until Sunday, January 10. Merry Christmas! Decorate the Giving Tree/Angel Tree today with unwrapped adult size underwear, socks, hats, and gloves. The gifts will benefit our guests involved in the PADS program. Thank you for your gifts! The purchased gifts should be placed under The Giving Tree/Angel Tree this morning. Please tape the paper ornament to the package! The deacons and volunteers will deliver the gifts prior to Christmas. Thank you for your generous support of these programs. The Mission Committee will meet today at 4:50 PM. The gathering is going Square Dancing tonight! We are headed to the Barn at Fermilab. Please meet at the church at 7:00 PM. We are not serving dinner, so please eat something before you arrive. Also, the cost is $3.00. We ll be back around 9:15 PM. The Evangelism Committee will meet on Monday at 7:00 PM. The Senior Bible Study will meet Tuesday, December 15, at 1:15 PM. We are studying the Parables of Jesus. Pick up a study guide at the sign up desk and join us for Bible Study and fellowship. Cadets and Jr. Cadets meet this Wednesday at church from 7:00 9:00 PM. If there is snow we will go sledding so dress accordingly & bring your sled, weather permitting. Cadets, Jr. Cadets & Fathers, come and join the fun at the Chicago Steel Hockey game in Bensenville on Friday, December 18, We are planning on leaving church at 6:30 PM. There is a signup sheet in the narthex. Be sure to sign up by Wednesday, December 16. The club is picking up the cost of the tickets and parking is free. Such a deal! Thank you to all who supported the gathering s first ever Holiday Pie Fundraiser! The pies will be available for pick up on Monday, December 21 at church after 12:00 PM. Calling all instrumentalists! The Music Committee would like to invite you to play during the Christmas morning service. If you would be willing to share your talents and play in a group with other musicians during this service, please contact Cathy Geers, cathygeers@aol.com or The only rehearsal will be on Christmas morning before the service. The gathering is excited to announce our winter retreat for 2010! From January 29-31, we will be headed up to Expeditions Unlimited in Baraboo, WI. This year, each student will have the opportunity to go skiing/snowboarding as well! Brochures can be found on the sign-up table in the narthex. Cost varies depending on whether you want to go skiing/snowboarding. You must register by January 24!

7 7 The Junior High Group is also excited to announce our Winter Retreat! Like last year, we will be headed up to The Wilderness Water Resort in the Wisconsin Dells from Feb. 5-7! Brochures and information can be found on the sign in table. Space is limited! Your registration and deposit guarantee a spot! Registration closes on Sunday, January 17, so sign up soon! What a caring church! Over two dozen children s jackets shipped last week for distribution at Christmas time in Mexico. Thank you for giving warmth to God s little ones through Tapestries of Life Ministries. It is not too late to send additional jackets, just call Dorothy Vanerka, For over twenty years the January Series of Calvin College has been the leading lecture/cultural arts series in the country. This year Faith CRC will present all the programs from the January Series. These live presentations from Calvin College will be simulcast to Faith CRC from 11:20 AM 12:30 PM. Start planning now to spend your days in January at Faith. The series begins on Wednesday, January 6, and continues Monday through Fridays, concluding on Tuesday, January 26, For a complete schedule and speakers go to Think of friends and neighbors who you could invite! Honduras Serve Project 2010! We are in the process of preparing for our next Honduras Serve Trip. The dates for this upcoming trip are January 30 February 6, We will be serving Hogar dé Niños, our orphanage in Comayagua. This trip fills up quickly.
