Village House Needs Volunteer Help in May St Paul s Methodist church has stepped up to operate an overnight shelter for the month of May thru June 7th. St. Paul s congregation is not large enough to fully staff the shelter for the entire 35 days. We and all of the other participating parishs, churches, and temples agreed to provide manpower in return for their gift of the shelter facility. Please consider volunteering at St Paul s for the week of May 17 th - 24th. You could help out more if you like but Holy Family and St Martin. of Tours are sharing responsiblity for that week. There will be an online signup for St Paul s on the Village House website We will also have a link to it on the HF parish website. Holy Family is operating this overnight Women s shelter for the month of November thru December 6th. Helping a day or more at St. Paul s would be a great opportunity to get to know the women a bit, and learn how things work before the shelter arrives at Holy Family in November. - Chris Schmitz Holy Family s Village House Coordinator Caregivers Support Groups Thursday, May 4 Holy Family Parish Youth Hall 10:15 am or Santa Teresa Parish Office Conference Room 7 pm Who s taking CARE of the Caregiver? Are YOU or someone you know a Caregiver who is helping a family member struggling with the Ups & Downs of life...feeling lonely, frustrated, discouraged, unappreciated, maybe a little angry or guilty unable to speak up for what you really want, need, or deserve because you are not the one who is sick feeling invisible and don t know how to become visible or validated? We are forming two support groups for Caregivers going through overwhelming challenges, conflicting emotions, questions and doubts of Am I enough? or Who s taking care of me? If this sounds like you or someone you know, please contact Gina Masero at maserogina@gmail.com. You are not alone. Free.

2 In Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the first Apparition of Our Lady in Fatima On Saturday, May 13th at 5pm we will have a rosary procession around our church grounds in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. Then we will proceed with our regularly scheduled 5:30pm Mass. All are welcome! Invite a friend. Here is a little background of Our Lady of Fatima in case you didn t know the story. In spring in 1916 Lucia dos Santos age 9, and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, ages 8 and 6 respectively, witnessed 3 apparitions of an angel followed by 6 monthly apparitions of Our Lady. It was on the 6th visit that the Miracle of the Sun occurred, witnessed by a crowd of about 70,000. An account of the first apparition of Our Lady On Sunday May 13, 1917 the children were pasturing their flock as usual at the Cova da Iria, about a mile from their homes. They were playing when suddenly a bright shaft of light like lightning pierced the air. It was not really lightning, but rather the reflection of a light that approached little by little. Frightened by the flash, the children looked around at the sky that was clear and bright without the least spot of a cloud. No breeze stirred, the sun was strong, and there was no hint anywhere of a storm that might be responsible for a flash of lightning. The children, however, thought that they had better head home in case it might start raining. As they descended the hill another flash of light took them by surprise. Panicky with fear, they took a few steps and looked towards the right. There, standing over the foliage of a small holmoak tree, "a lady dressed all in white, more brilliant then the sun, shedding rays of light, clear and stronger than a crystal glass filled with the most sparkling water, pierced by the burning rays of the sun". The lady spoke to them and said: "Fear not! I will not harm you." "Where are you from?", the children asked. "I am from heaven" the beautiful lady replied, gently raising her hand towards the distant horizon. "What do you want of me?", Lucia asked. "I came to ask you to come here for six consecutive months, on the thirteenth day, at this same hour. I will tell you later who I am and what I want. And I shall return here again a seventh time." Lucia said : "Do you come from heaven...and will I go to heaven?" "Yes, you'll go". "And Jacinta?" "As well." "And Francisco?" "Him too, but he will have to say many rosaries". In the end Our Lady asked: "Do you wish to offer yourselves to God, to endure all the suffering that He may please to send you, as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and to ask for the conversion of sinners?" "Yes, we do." said the children. "You will have to suffer a lot, but the grace of God will be your comfort. "Then she opened her hands with a loving gesture of a mother who offers her heart. From it an intense light departed that seemed to go through them. The vision vanished telling them: "Recite the rosary every day to obtain the peace for the world and the end of the war." And She disappeared. Holy Family School News Holy Family School is currently accepting applications for all grade levels. Liturgy Link Liturgy of the Word Last week I spoke briefly about the parts of the Liturgy of the Word during Mass. Let s focus a little bit on the Creed. It s our profession of faith. When we say the creed together at Mass, it s in preparation for the Eucharist. Together we stand, we recite and we profess our faith. It is us all saying I BELIEVE. The Creed is our faith in its shortest most concise wording. We all must agree to what is contained in the Creed before we proceed to the Eucharist. That public profession makes us ready to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, the true Blood and true Body of the living Christ. We bow during the Creed once, when we say: and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became Man. This is because we are recognizing the humility that Jesus assumed on our behalf, becoming fully Man, while fully God, to take on the Sins of the world. Next time you re at Mass and saying the Creed, keep present in your mind that this is what you re agreeing to in your heart. Kathy Bohac Coordinator of Liturgy Sacred Scripture Study A new study has begun - The Wild Goose (Holy Spirit) is a series that will lead YOU on an adventure greater than you can imagine.
