2 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, In everything we do, preparation is the hardest part. In deed, like the old saying goes, good preparation yields good results. Our Festival Committee has been preparing for months for this weekend. Thanks be to God and to all who helped us this far. Besides the long preparation, setup and teardown are the most labor intensive. In light of the setup this year, the Festival Committee and I are very grateful and impressed with our setup team. Jerry Lane, one of the five core leaders said to me we had about one hundred people who came for the setup. Some of them are second time and we did see a lot of new blood this year. It was awesome! Thanks be to God and thanks to all who made our setup so joyful and painless due to many helpers. In regards to our Festival, it has been a long tradition that the proceeds from these three days festival will be offered as a subsidy for our school. Records shows that for more than a decade, we have grossed about $125K - $135K, but netted around $30K - $40K and all of it went to our school. Last year, we initiated a deal to encourage our school staff and students to be more involved in the process, especially with the selling of raffle tickets. Our goal is still to offer our school most of the funds, yet the parish would also benefit from the proceeds. Thus, we agreed that should our net exceed more than $50K then the excess will go to the parish. Thanks much to the leadership of Jerry Lane, Chris Schmitz and Aileen Styczynski, and in particular a great thanks to Trudy Ehlenberger and Mimi Bini for their hard work in pushing the raffle ticket sales and many others who put in their tireless work in helping at various activities and booths; last year, we surprisingly netted $67K. It was the highest profit we ever made. Therefore, we were able to offer the school $50K and the parish received $17K, all for the first time. What an amazing work we did last year! It is our goal that we are able to net more than $50K once again to benefit our school and parish. Above all, it is the spirit of coming together as a community of faith and love gives us a true sense of who we are as Christ s followers. May God grant us another successful and joyful year in celebrating our 37 th Annual Parish Festival. Please come and join us! God bless, Fr. 4 ADORATION Adoration means to have a deep love and respect or to venerate or worship. When Catholics refer to adoration, it typically means adoration of the Blessed Sacrament the Eucharist - the true presence of Jesus Body, Blood, soul and divinity. During adoration the Eucharist is exposed in a monstrance a transparent vessel which holds the Body of Jesus at the center. Typically, they are made from gold or silver. The word monstrance comes from the Latin word meaning to show. Many times the design of the monstrance will look as though there are rays of light coming from the center which holds the Body of Christ. In many ways, we are to be a living monstrance one who holds Jesus at the center of their lives. Exposing Him to those around us, and inviting others to gaze at Love Himself! (To be continued next week.) If you ve never been to adoration before, you can check it out at Holy Family every weekday from 12 3pm and from 8am-5pm on first Fridays. Even if you can only stay for a few moments, the time you spend with Jesus is always valuable. You can also join in on the parish-wide 24 hours of adoration to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima beginning on October 13th at 4pm and ending on October 14th at 4pm. Hope you can join us! Our librarian, Mrs. Lanoie helps our students learn how to check out and properly use the books. The classes at HFS visit the library once a week and Mrs. Lanoie reads stories to the younger students and helps foster the love of reading to our older students. We are so lucky to have her. Last week, Mrs. Lanoie welcomed Mrs. Terry, a retired teacher, into the library to read a story to the first graders. They even had an additional treat that day because alumni, Alyssa K., also came to visit with the first graders and helped them read. We challenge YOU to a friendly bocce tournament! Enjoy great food and great fellowship, all while helping alleviate, prevent, and reduce poverty in Santa Clara County through Catholic Charities. Only 8 teams are remaining for this fun night. Sponsorships include a 4-member team plus guests. Thursday, September 28 Campo di Bocce - Los Gatos. Myra Kaelin, Fundraising Events Manager

Contact Neyla Brown Neyla5756@gmail.com or Deborah Trevisan debearah@sbcglobal.net Small Things Count I want to die. Life isn't worth living. I can't go on like this. You may not feel like this right now, but you may know someone who does. The U.S. suicide rate is the highest it's been in 30 years. It's up to those of us in a good space to help those in a dark one. We can't erase all the negativity in the world--we don't control oppression, war, power-hungry dictators, or devastating disease. But we can keep a positive attitude around others (we never know when an affirmative word or action is just what the person we're with needs). And we can speak up against public figures who constantly spew negativity. In everyday life we can watch for suicide risk factors and warning signs (see keep the Suicide Prevention Hotline number ( ) handy to give to an at-risk person, and lend him/her our cell phone to call immediately. Together, giving of ourselves and positive, concerned actions can stop that suicide rate from increasing and bring hopeless people back into the light. Call Jackie O Donnell at or write c/o Holy Family. Village House Village House is an organization calling for meals and housing to be provided approximately one month at a time by local churches and temples in Santa Clara County. Holy Family will be hosting the overnight shelter in November. Many volunteer opportunities are available for individuals or groups such as laundry, meals, intake and overnight, driving, and medical. You can get more information about Village House on our parish website or on their website: sccca.com/. Sign-ups for Holy Family will be there soon. EDGE is our Middle School Faith Formation for 6th- 8th graders. EDGE meets on Sundays from 3:45-5:30pm. Life Teen is our High School Faith For mation for 9th- 12th graders. Life Teen meets on Sundays immediately following the 6:00pm Mass from 7pm-9pm. No EDGE and Life Teen this week due to our Parish Festival, we invite all teens to join us for the amazing food and games hosted onsite this weekend. Life Teen is starting a missionary discipleship small group for our teens. We will be meeting on Wednesdays starting in October. The topic for our first series will be Atheism. Please contact Jeff for more information on how to join this group. All registration forms for these programs are available at (under Faith Formation) Contact Jeff Gans for more info at or jgans@dsj.org The Word is Alive Scripture Study Thursdays 7:15-9 pm in the Hope Room. All are welcome! Liturgy Link The Mass Our Offering Continued from last week. The next part of the Eucharistic prayer is intercessions. These aren t the prayers of the faithful that we re used to hearing called intercessions. This is where we specifically recognize that the Eucharist is always celebrated in communion. Let s look at the word communion, using the Oxford Dictionary definition: the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level. Communion in the Eucharistic prayer, reminds us that in all ways we are connected with the whole Church, both in heaven and on earth. The oblation made (see last week s bulletin) is made for the church and for all her members, living and dead. We pray that Jesus would make us an eternal offering to God, so that we might one day be with God, we pray that the sacrifice of our reconciliation (Jesus death) would bring peace to all and save all the world. We remember the saints, those in heaven, and remember the pilgrim Church, listing our direct line to Christ (Bishops and Pope) and conclude with all the people Christ has saved. We plead with God to remember all and to be merciful. Next time you hear these words, remember Christ s mercy in your life, call to mind all the ways you have been saved, returned to God and been lovingly embraced. Kathy Bohac Coordinator of Liturgy
