Join us for the Advent morning of reflection with Fr. Kevin Joyce on Saturday, December 16, 10 am 12:00 pm in the parish church. Bring your Bibles! Why have millions of people made pilgrimages to Lourdes over the past 150 years, and tens of millions of people made pilgrimages to the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe since 1531? The answer is the power and presence of the Virgin Mary in God s plan for the world. During this Advent Parish Mission, Fr. Kevin Joyce will help us understand Mary s role in the Bible, in Christian history, and in our own spiritual journeys. He will also address common objections to the intercession of saints and how the Catholic practice of asking saints to pray for us is solid biblical teaching. Fr. Kevin completed his doctorate in Spirituality at the Catholic University of America in 1991 and later served as pastor of St. Maria Goretti Parish in San Jose and St. Lucy Parish in Campbell. He now serves at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in San Jose. Village House Is Here Our guests have arrived and will be with us until December 6th. We STILL NEED HELP, especially with over-night hosts. Please see our Holy Family Website: holyfamilysanjose.org or the Village House sign-up page: Donations to cover food/paper goods, et al can be made to Holy Family print Village House on your check s memo line. 2 A Message From Our Parochial Vicar A Heart of Love, A Heart of Thanks: Fr. Celso Singson Gratitude is embedded in my heart since I was ordained a priest to serve God in His vineyard. Everything that I have (life, health, family, education, success) is a gift from God, but the best of all, is the gift of the Priesthood. God has chosen me from millions of people and molded be like an earthen vessel from the hands of the potter to become His instrument in serving His people. What a great privilege and honor the Lord has entrusted to me. What a great responsibility to fulfill His call according to His will and vision of His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. It is a blessing and a challenge to be chosen but I am here willing with God s grace to live a life of simplicity and humility in fulfilling His will all the days of my life. Priesthood is destined for service. It is to bring people s offering to God the source of everything. I am very grateful to the parishioners, parish staff and pastor for showing kindness and acceptance in treating me as a newcomer in the parish. I find so much love and care from friends I meet every Sunday at church and at school and parish office everyday. This vibrant, active and spirit-filled parish is one of a kind in the Bay area. Thank you Lord for choosing and bringing me here. Help me to grow and be an effective minister in bringing your love, peace and mercy to your beloved people, the Holy Family Parish and School. Nothing more to say from the bottom of my heart but the word, THANKS. As one says: For everything that has been, Thanks and for everything that will be, Yes Lord. Sign-up for an appointment on the parish website. Liturgy Link The Mass Our Offering Continued from last week. Once the assembly has responded to Jesus Christ, present in the consecrated host and wine that we now refer to as the Precious Body and the Precious Blood of Christ that the Presider has held up, he returns them to the altar. The presider says quietly, facing the altar, "May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life" and then reverently consumes the Body of Christ. He repeats this with the chalice, consuming the Blood of Christ. As the presider does this, the communion song begins. If there are concelebrants, priests also celebrating the Mass but who are not the main presider, they also consume the Body and Blood of Christ in this way. The presider does not communicate them. Once all the Priests present have received, the presider takes the paten (plate) or ciborium (bowl) and proceeds to communicate all those present, include any Deacons. We bow as we approach, and when presented with the host, hearing "The Body of Christ", we reply audibly and with conviction, "Amen!" and we receive it in our hand or on our tongue, immediately consuming it. We do so also with the chalice, hearing, "The Blood of Christ", replying again "Amen!" and take the chalice and consume a small amount. Kathy Bohac Coordinator of Liturgy Sacred Scripture Study We will be studying The Acts of the Apostles - the First Evangelization Team.
